  1. This undo function would provide the ability to separate two records that were accidentally combined so they go back to being attached to their original, individual POs, have their original items attached, and have their original hold lists attached.

Example: If a regular print record and a large print record for a title with a list of holds on each were accidentally combined, catalogers would have to split the large print items out by creating a second record and move the appropriate “on order” items to that record. The newly created record wouldn’t be able to be linked back to…

  3. In Polaris, a single delete of a bib/item record will result in that record being 'marked for deletion.' It is no longer visible in the PAC, but is still visible in Polaris with a Deleted status. Deleting a record in Deleted status, or what we've termed 'double-delete,' will result in the record being fully purged from the database.

Sometimes, staff will delete a record and go back to it to verify the deletion. They see it's still visible in Polaris (missing the Deleted status) and delete it a second time. This accidental purging results in no longer being able to…

  4. When using a record set, it would be helpful if there was a column that shows when the item was added to the record set. We use record sets to create carousels that show new items on our PAC. The date added to record set would be helpful so we could remove the oldest things when refreshing our carousels.

  5. Some library staff need to be able to alter the label margin and font size for longer call numbers, longer author names, and longer titles, as well as how the printer prints that day. Currently, staff using Leap need to go back and forth between the Client and Leap to do so. Adding the label settings that are only accessible in the Client to Leap will make it easier for staff to make the transition to Leap by allowing them to maintain their workflow for their current printers.

  6. Today if a record set is deleted it's still visible in the list of record sets a specific record is a part of (either on the Record Sets tab in Leap, or list of Linked Record Sets in the client). However there's no clear indicator that it's a deleted record set, which can cause confusion for staff. It would be helpful if the Record Status column was visible, and if there was an option to not display deleted record sets (ideally the setting could be applied at various organizational levels). Both these options would allow more clarity and control for…

  7. Currently, the new 7.4 item language field is using the same Languages table used in patron registration. For patron records, the language preference field displays in their account in PowerPAC. Patrons use this field to select their preferred notification language.

If a library wants to add a new language to the Languages table, it will be added as an option for both item records and patron accounts. This is problematic, because many libraries purchase materials in far more languages than they offer notices in. If a library adds additional language options to this table, they risk that patrons will select…

  8. Frontline staff currently have an alert to click through when they view an Authority record. Could there be separated permission levels to allow staff to View an Authority Record without clicking through the pop-up, vs Modifying these records?

  9. Some libraries use tools like Deep Freeze (that discard any changes to previous work sessions) or manage settings so that browser caches are cleared when closed or when the user logs out. Since Leap Offline stores data transactions in the browser cache, anything that is not uploaded to the database will be lost in such occurrences.

  10. Patron records have 5 UDFs and 10 Custom Data Fields – item records have none of these. As a result, many libraries end up doing some weird stuff with the Name of Piece and Temporary Shelf Location. This idea would add 10 or so custom item record fields that libraries can choose how they would like to use.

Ideally, fields would be capable of multiple data types including freetext, Boolean, date, or numeric. In a perfect world, it could also support a drop down list like the UDFs! The fields would also be searchable in the find tool, just like…

  11. Imagine the possibilities if we could automate the process of bulk changes to bib records as part of an import profile.

Other ILS systems offer robust manipulation of bib records upon import, but this is missing from Polaris.

By allowing bib bulk changes to be stored in templates, just like item bulk changes, we can streamline the process and save valuable time. Imagine having a set of predefined steps for importing bibs from specific sources or of certain record types. It would ensure consistency and accuracy, eliminating manual effort.

    1. Allow bib bulk changes to be stored in templates like item…

  12. We would like to be able to create status codes. We have renamed some we don't use to make them useful, but that is limited. We use in-repair for multiple problems and it would be better for our staff to be more specific. For example, it is used for items with bedbug damage that will definitely be leaving us and it would be good to know that at a glance, as opposed to DVDs that need to be resurfaced and are also in-repair along with books with missing pages or water damage, etc. So, instead of just the one status,…

  13. As Polaris currently exists (v7.3 at my library), User 1 wants to share a bibliographic record set with User 2 and User 3. In order to do this, they have to change the record set's owner from User 1 to Organization 1. But this allows all members of Organization 1 with the permissions "Cataloging Record Sets: Modify" and "Cataloging Record Sets: Delete/Undelete" to make changes to that record set. Let's say that at some point down the road, User 4 sees this bib record set owned by Organization 1 and thinks they're being helpful by updating or deleting it. They…

  14. Our Cataloging staff frequently have to place item-level holds on multiple items from the same bib record when making updates to the collection. Currently in Leap, these holds display in the patron's account with only the title, format, and call number. From this information it is impossible to tell which specific items have been placed on hold. Including the barcode and the assigned branch of the item would make it easier to tell different item-level holds apart when the items all have the same title.

  15. In LEAP, please add the ability for a user to create a bibliographic record set from a file of ISBNs or Control Numbers..

    Idea Value
LEAP can create item record sets using an 'add from file' option that uploads item records by barcode - and LEAP can create a patron record set by uploading a file of Patron IDs.

We would like to have a similar function that allows us to create a bibliographic record set by uploading a file of ISBNs or Control Numbers.

  16. I often get requests to have a pop-up for staff when last copy, or more especially a last copy with a hold, gets put into a status like withdrawn, missing, etc. It could provide a big head's up to selectors so they could preemptively tackle.

    Idea Value
This would provide better customer service. Last copies with holds that were being discarded, etc. could be more immediately addressed to order replacement, contact patron, or submit to ILL.
