Option to directly edit fixed fields
The workform for viewing/editing fixed field data is useful in some cases, there are times when experienced cataloguers would find it faster and easier to have the option edit those lines directly.

I have a feeling we're talking specifically about the LDR... I won't pretend to know everything about the database, but I did A LOT of digging to see if I could get LDR data to surface in a report... it seems like the data exists in the database primarily as the component parts for the editable positions, which is probably why the field tag can't be edited directly. It stands to reason that the string must exist SOMEWHERE (otherwise we wouldn't see non-configurable data like the record length), but it doesn't appear to be a part of the normal BibliographicSubfields data... I know that all probably sounds inconsequential to this Idea, but if this development would make it easier to surface LDR data as a string in database queries, all the better!

While you can directly edit the 006, 007, and 008, they do not automatically overwrite like it does in the client. Because they are fixed fields with a standardized number of characters, it would be easier for experienced cataloguers to just type what needs to be there, rather than deleting the correct number of characters or opening the workform.

Hi Eleanor,
Would you share which fixed fields your catalogers want to directly edit and are unable to? The 006, 007, and 008 fields are all able to be directly edited in the MARC editor.
