  1. We received an idea to possibly redesign the "Find a Copy" menu so that viewing shelf locations would no longer need the user to click the library that they are searching for resulting in two clicks to see that information.

"You have to click on the library name itself in order to get a full picture of where an item is. It's an extra unnecessary step"

  2. Currently, when you allow patrons to edit patron profile fields like Email address, phone numbers, etc., you can Edit and Add. We don't want our patrons to Add in some cases, like Email, because when the patron does this in Vega, that means an additional z-tagged field in the record. Until Vega allows LX notices to go to more than 1 z-tagged field, we don't want patrons adding one and then wondering why they didn't get the notice to the e-mail address they just added. It's confusing. So if there was a check box for "Edit" and a check box…

  3. The current Vega On Order logic allows the library to select Material Types that will show a status of On Order when there are no items attached. The problem is that for older titles sometimes all the attached items have a status that we suppress from display because it's not useful to the patrons such as: Missing, Withdrawn, Damaged, Lost, etc. These items, because they are suppressed from display will cause this title to show up as ON ORDER when it's actually not and may be weeded from the collection soon. If the logic could be updated to include suppressed…

  4. We have noticed several instances where unrelated titles roll-up together. We have noticed it the most in travel books. It seems to be a problem whenever we don't use a 1XX Marc Fields in a record and several items have the same 245, or in records where the 1XX field and 245 are the same but are in fact different books. Travel books are a problem, but I've seen this in items where there is a adult and juvenile or teen version of an item, where a classic book has a graphic novelization or even in two completely unrelated items…

  5. This is more for library staff, but when searching by a standard number for a specific format, to have the search results land on the correct tab in rollup. For example, searching an ISBN for an e-resource will currently take to rollup but the book tab selected and not on the e-resource tab.

  6. Integrate into Vega the capability for patrons to create their own notifications using advanced search filtering. For example, patrons could choose to receive a text through IPA:SMS whenever a specific author releases new material at our library. Additionally, they could opt to receive a weekly email with a predefined search filter, such as Availability (At Library), Format (Book), Collection (Adult Non-Fiction), New Material (This week), focusing on the topic "Nature".

  7. We think it is very important to provide patrons the option to Select Items to Renew, which would display checkboxes in front of each item for the patron to select multiple checkboxes to renew together.

  8. When using the hold shelf functions of IMMS (Intelligent material Management System), customers are unable to see in Vega which hold shelf their items are ready to pickup on.

Workarounds are required by staff to fill this gap, and customers are encouraged to use other applications which does show this information.

It would be great to have the hold shelf placement details displayed in Vega, for items ready for pickup.

  9. Currently, Vega sorts book, eBook, large print, audio CD, and eAudio. I'm proposing we change this to book, large print, audio CD, then digital resources. Most patrons search for digital media via Libby rather than the main online catalog.

Additionally, putting DVDs before Blu-Ray would help lower the amount of patrons accidentally ordering Blu-Ray when they really wanted the DVD. Re-ordering this would lower the amount of accidental hold requests for the wrong media type.

  10. We would like to have the ability to sort Edition Information for an item by other identifiers such as Availability, Publisher, etc. This will help with customizing the user's experience a bit more when looking at the particular editions that they would like.

  11. Keep the search bar throughout ALL Discover pages. Similar to Google or any search engine - it should always be at the top and would make searching more convenient because it would avoid having to navigate back to the home page of the catalog.

  12. Currently, only partial of the bibliographic description is displayed in the Location Drawer Item Details due to either character limit and/or predetermined select subfields. The full description needs to be displayed to include additional content from $e of the 300.

  13. We were attempting to update the "searchResultPageCopies" string so that it made more sense when viewing OverDrive eBooks / Audiobooks; we added the word "available" so that it would read "0 copies available" on OverDrive titles that were all checked out with waitlists.

However, we've discovered that for physical books, the word "available" might be misleading, because for physical materials this tally seems to be a count of total items owned, rather than copies available.

For example, we have a title where Books show 27 copies available, but that's not accurate because some are checked out and held; it is…

  14. Many of our patrons prefer to control their Overdrive/Libby account through the catalog. There is currently no freeze option for Overdrive holds within Vega Discover. Not sure if this is because we don't import the Overdrive records into our ILS (Sierra) or not.

  15. We've had customers and staff point out that at times, shelf location information could be more visible in Vega results. In particular, we wondered if it would be possible to use bold type for the shelf location information on the search result page on the kiosk sites, in addition to the call number.

Also, when you go to the detailed information that lists the call number, collection, and shelf location information, we thought perhaps, when the shelf location information is available, it might help if it was listed above the call number.

    Thanks for your consideration!

  16. As of now Vega doesn´t look at the order records in the ILS. We have set the system to allow holds on bib-records with no items attached for books. That in turn displays "On order" in Vega. This method has some complications but works for the most part since there usually are orders on these bibs. But we would like it to also display how many items are ordered. It helps inform our patrons if it´s worth placing a hold on the title.

In the example (offer) I´ve included we have a new book with 8 copies ordered. If that…

  17. Edited by Samantha C October 6, 2025 after release of Title and Author sort options

We would like too add more sorting options to Vega Discover when on the results screen after doing a search. The options that are listed above for example will help with bringing the most relevant titles to the top of the results based on the user's searching preferences. This will promote giving users more options for better discovery.

  18. Libraries should have the option to exclude frozen holds from the total holds queue that appears in any catalogue.

    Benefits:

    1) Customers will have a better idea of where they are in the hold queue.
We encourage customer-driven hold management, and customers have told us that they want an estimate of when their holds will be filled.
This is especially true when customers place multiple hold on titles within a series.

    2) Customers will not see inflated hold queues and provide feedback to the Library that they should purchase more copies.

    3) Customers could make an education decision on whether…

  19. When an item is checked out through a third-party digital resource, like Overdrive/Libby, that is not included in our catalog it displays strangely. The list of digital items that aren't included in our catalog is extensive and forever increasing. I've included a screenshot of how it is displayed in the account records on Vega.

It would be helpful if these items displayed in a way that was less confusing. Perhaps just simply calling it "Digital Item" would be fine.

  20. Add logic to Hold Cancelation Button so that:
    1. Holds that cannot be canceled do not display a cancel hold button.
    a. Particularly ILL type requests should be able to be configured to not allow cancelation button to display. Or to only allow until the ILL is shipped.
    b. Expired holds should be able to be configured to not allow cancelation button to display.
    c. An option should be available that causes all cancel buttons to be suppressed as well.

    1. Holds that can be canceled always display the Cancel button (some libraries allow trapped holds to be canceled and the…
