Polaris 7.7 - Make filter sticky when searching Leap
When searching in Leap, any applied filters are automatically discarded when the search box is closed. It would be beneficial to have the option to make filters stick from search to search. A good example is in the case of consortia - it would be extremely helpful if the patron assigned library filter would stick so staff would always begin an initial search for patrons with their library filter in place.
Idea Value
Time savings would be gained if staff did not have to select a specific filter each time a search was conducted - such as selecting the patron assigned library filter when looking for patrons within their library, or item branch filter when looking for items within their library.

What we really need is for LEAP to work better for Consortia that consist of libraries that operate independently, but want to share resources and costs.
In onboarding new, previously independent, libraries, 'seeing everything' is one of our largest hurdles they have to overcome. While they generally appreciate the benefits that come with being a part of a larger group, there is a reality that their day-to-day workflows INCREASE in complexity and time with joining our group. Most of their work is done at 'just their library'. Our staff are constantly having to sort and filter to their library before running just about anything. Our current workaround is to help staff with saved power searches, but that is complicated and confusing for many of our librarians.
Even more concerning is there are no options to prevent a library to 'act' on another libraries patrons accounts for checkouts. We have had some staff in a hurry checkout materials for the wrong "Sam Jones".
I think this idea could be implemented from either using the library they chose at login to be the default filter, or, have a dropdown of sorts to select the library you want to filter to in the Settings window where other per-account defaults are set.
On a personal note, this idea was submitted by our late director and it would be nice touch to get this idea into the product.

For several types of searches, but especially when working with funds, purchase orders, and invoices, I would like to be able to set a default filter to block previous fiscal years' funds, purchase orders, and invoices from showing up in the search results. I have to set this filter each time I work with the search feature. I rarely use previous fiscal year data, so setting a default would be very helpful.

As a consortium, our libraries have a shared database. Currently, all searches done in Leap default to searching the entire database unless the staff member puts a filter in place specifically for their library, which has to be done every single time they open the Find Tool. This is not only cumbersome but seems backwards. It would make much more sense for the ability to default a search to one’s own library, then expand results to the rest of the consortium when necessary.
Having filters that “stick” would result in fewer steps for staff who just want to search their library’s materials and fewer items accidentally being checked out to the wrong library’s patron account (and the hassle/stress that follows if the item(s) become lost/damaged). Ultimately, it would improve searching across all areas.
The option for default search settings already exist in the Find Tool, let's make it available for the filters as well.
