Support EAN for Syndetics Images
At this time, the EAN is not being used to add the images from Syndetics to the PowerPAC or Vega. There are many products that have EANs instead of UPCs. Many libraries have been requesting that images be added for these products so that patrons can have an idea of what the item is before they check it out. We have asked Syndetics about it and they do have the images for these products. In fact, the images are appearing in Leap. Given that the images are available, the PowerPAC and Vega should have this capability. It will enhance the discoverability and accessibility for these items.

I support this idea. If Leap already has the images, then it ought to be easy to add the images to the PowerPAC and Vega. The patrons need the images as much as the staff do, if not more.

Pictures help patrons that don't read or English isn't their first language. Please support this idea!

Yes, this would be great! And it would help reduce the number of reports that we get saying that an image can't be found or loaded for a particular title.

Making the PowerPAC more user friendly, and materials more discoverable by our patrons, is reason enough to use the EAN to add images.

As more and more libraries add Library of Things items to the collection, it is crucial that we be able to SHOW the item, rather than just attempt to describe it. We display book covers for that reason. If the image displays in Leap, then there is no reason it shouldn't also display in PowerPAC.

Absolutely. If these helpful images display in Leap, they should be displayed to our users in the PAC as well.

Discoverability and accessibility are the main purpose of an OPAC. Enhancing these with images, that are available in LEAP, would aid patrons in both discoverability by giving patrons better understanding of what the items actually are. Especially for Patrons who are visual learners.
