Block Renewals for certain periods after checkout
We would like the ability to block renewals for a few days after checkout (or longer). Right now, we're seeing a lot of accidental renewals of items at checkout due to an item being too near an RFID pad or someone double scanning a checkout because they aren't sure if it scanned. In a previous system, we were able to block renewals by a couple days, so this didn't happen.

Accidental renewals and misunderstanding when the renewal date begins (date of renewal versus original due date) is an oddly prevelant issue for both patrons and staff. It is particularly important because staff cannot undue a renewal, thus taking away potential future renewals and as another commenter said, inflating circulation numbers. I would assume, however, that this added function would not take away the staff ability to extend a due date if needed.

Having a renewal block for up to 50% of the items checkout period would be beneficial and also serve to reduce the potential for any artificially inflated circulation numbers.

Stacey McClain's idea sounds like just what we need. What ILS were you using?

This is something we would love to see added to Polaris. We would love to see a feature similar to that of our previous ILS - if items are renewed from the original due date, renewals are only allowed by patrons X days prior to the due date (with X being a number of days we can choose).
