  1. Hi Vega team,

Submitting a suggestion on behalf of NLB.

NLB suggests to provide a before and after comparison in release notes for side by side comparison of any new UI related changes.

This will enable them to create demonstration / training materials for end users' awareness with each release.

    Thank you

  2. The Place Hold and Get It buttons will activate when you log in if you clicked it before while logged out, and then dismissed the log in dialog, then later decided to log in for another purpose. This can lead to eItems getting checked out automatically when you decided not to check it out. The hold dialog showing might also be confusing to those who are logging in but did not expect to place a hold at that time. Steps to reproduce: While logged out, search catalog for "mummies". Select the tab for an electronic item in the list that…

  3. We have many bib records with no items available (Lost, Missing, etc). Unfortunately these still show up in "similar item" suggestions in the catalog.

Currently if you click on one it takes you to a 404 page.

Once on the 404 page, you can't simply click back to go to where you were, since that seems to take you to a page that forwards you back to the 404. The only way to go back is if you hold down the back button to go back 2 pages (which many users will not know.)

    Example of the issue:

    Hi Michael,

We were taking a look at your Syndetics information today based on your feedback to Danette. There is a problem with your synchronizations that is currently being fixed by support. You should not normally see 404s when you data is synching properly.

    Best Regards,

    Samantha Cunning

  4. When a bib record has 0 available items (all items lost or missing), it shows up in the 'You May Also Like" section. When clicked on, it takes the user to a 404 page.

It seems that these items are suppressed in direct searches - so they should probably also be suppressed from being suggested.

    Example:

  5. It would be really nice if we could prioritize showing the original release date year over the publication year of DVDs in particular.

This would probably be helpful for books too, but for movies the DVD publication date is especially irrelevant and confusing to most patrons.

Many items share titles, and the original year is an important way to find what you are looking for.

This information is often not in the cataloging info (I don't understand why, but then I also don't have an MLIS), but I would think it could be pulled from Syndetics Unbound or LibraryThing.

We cannot support a feature that doesn't use data from the MARC record to display data. A request could be sent to Syndetics to add this data to a book profile widget or something similar.

  6. Instead of having separate hold pickup location for every drive through able locations instead of filling the hold pickup location listed with duplicate locations

  7. Currently, our Playaways are rolling up with our audio books on CD, both under Audiobook and making it difficult for patrons to find the playaways. I've been told that this works for Sierra, but not Polaris. Thank you.

  8. For "All" search for Tonie or Tonies, improve the search functionality such that Tonies records appear at the top of the search results.

Currently, "All" searches for Tonies or Tonie put results related to the word Tony (in title, author, etc.) at the top of the search results. This is making it difficult for patrons to discover the records for our very popular Tonie characters. I understand from customer support that the term Tonies is currently been treated as a variation of the name 'Tony' in Vega, which is why searches with the most relevancy for 'Tony' are returned when…

  9. In several places in Vega dates are shown as D/M/YYYY which can be confusing for staff and patrons in the United States. Dates show in this order for scheduled home pages (although not when scheduling to add a showcase) and for patrons when choosing to schedule a hold for a later date. I'm not sure if day first order shows up elsewhere in the system, but it would be less confusing if it were consistent everywhere and each library could choose which order they want.

  10. Currently, Vega Discover displays eContent such as Hoopla and CloudLibrary records before physical holdings in the search results. We would like to have our physical formats appear first in our results.

  11. It would be great if updates to the system could be performed overnight. If that isn't possible, it would be nice to receive a message 24 hours out so that we can alert patrons to functionality issues.

  12. The current 250-character limit in Vega Discover's announcement feature significantly restricts our ability to convey essential, detailed information in a single message. This limitation is particularly challenging when addressing complex situations that impact multiple services. Our public relations team is compelled to create multiple, shortened versions of the same announcement to fit this constraint, leading to an inefficient communication process that does not align with the capabilities of modern CMS platforms.

Increasing the character limit to at least 500 characters is a necessary enhancement. It will enable us to deliver comprehensive and clear messages without the need for creating multiple…

  13. While "Material type, status, and (Sierra only) message code synchronization" is offered, it doesn't appear that we are able to sync other fixed fields that are changed in an item record. For example, updating the OPACMSG field in the item record is not reflected in Vega, even after running the sync. Changing the OPACMSG in an ITEM record does not get activated by the sync function in Vega admin…you must update the bib as well and then run the extraction (or wait overnight). Aside from making the documentation more clear, ideally syncing is expanded to reflect changes to items w/out…

  14. It would be nice to have an additional format of bilingual material. 041 would have multiple |a.
Currently it is rolled up with the regular print and is only notable if there is an edition statement, which I don't believe is typical.

  15. Currently, changes to the OPAC Message field in the item record do not display in Vega unless the BIB record has also been changed. If the BIB has been changed, the OPAC Message change will be picked up during overnight extraction; however, if the BIB isn't edited, the change is never picked up.

Currently, we use the OPAC Message field to display important shelf information. Changes to this field are made at each location by staff that do not have permissions to edit BIBs. The only way to ensure that these changes display in Vega is for staff to let…

  16. Currently, Syndetics Unbound shows a colored box with the title if the MARC has no ISBN/UPC (020 or 024). When ISBN/UPC is present but Syndetics Unbound does not have an image, a grayed-out book icon displays. It would be aesthetically pleasing if the images for these two scenarios were consistent.

  17. I think the For later and Bookmarks labelling can be clarified. It would be clearer if the Bookmarks label is changed to 'Items saved for later' or simply 'For later' so there is a direct co-relation, making it a tad bit easier for new users to understand where 'For later' items go.

  18. Provide the option to turn on some form of autoplay/autoscroll for carousels on the Vega homepage.

This would be helpful to enable at least for the hero carousels to allow for more exposure to slides after the first.

  19. Our live action and animated Disney films are rolling up together because Vega ignores parentheses in uniform titles.

Each have separate and distinct 130 tags (uniform title) but because the authorized uniform title headings are Aladdin (Motion picture : 1992) for the animated and Aladdin (Motion picture : 2019) for the live action and because Vega ignores text in parentheses in titles, it's treating both as just "Aladdin" and rolling up both as a single record.

  20. The availability filter is more helpful now that it can filter out titles which have no physical items available. Checking "at library" does indeed find only titles that have an item available on the shelf. Thank you! But if you check "online" for availability, it just shows everything from Overdrive - it doesn't actually filter out the unavailable Overdrive titles.

This cannot be done for OverDrive and other econtent.  Vega has to ping the econtent vendor API for each individual title separately in order to get 'availability' status.  It's impossible to do this for all search results rather than just the displayed page of results and return correct availability on the fly for a facet.
