Disable Vega Discover Cookie Prompt for Kiosk Sites
As of May 8th, 2024, Patrons at Vega Discover Kiosks which run in incognito mode are now presented with a greyed-out screen with a small white cookie banner at the bottom. For patron privacy, best practice for any Kiosk deployed in a public space calls for the erasure of all browser cache and cookies at the end of the kiosk session. For a walk-up session, there is no clear instruction as to what action needs to be taken to get to the full site, clicking a small "x" in the lower right corner is neither intuitive nor accessible. This prompt…
124 votesTo protect the privacy of all users the Cookie Banner is enabled for all Discover use. We understand that kiosk use may be anonymous by nature, however, all customer searching should be able to opt in or out of tracking.

API / Content ingest for Kanopy
Add Kanopy as a third party connection
32 votesPlease note that Kanopy doesn't have a public API for developers to access its content or functionality. We cannot build this connection because Kanopy has not provided APIs for using their content. You can control your Kanopy content if you load it into the ILS by using the Non-Integrated Econtent Management functions in Vega Discover. Don't ignore paren in uniform titles
Our live action and animated Disney films are rolling up together because Vega ignores parentheses in uniform titles.
Each have separate and distinct 130 tags (uniform title) but because the authorized uniform title headings are Aladdin (Motion picture : 1992) for the animated and Aladdin (Motion picture : 2019) for the live action and because Vega ignores text in parentheses in titles, it's treating both as just "Aladdin" and rolling up both as a single record.

New format tab for bilingual material
It would be nice to have an additional format of bilingual material. 041 would have multiple |a.
Currently it is rolled up with the regular print and is only notable if there is an edition statement, which I don't believe is typical.23 votes -
Request to Increase Character Limit in Announcements
The current 250-character limit in Vega Discover's announcement feature significantly restricts our ability to convey essential, detailed information in a single message. This limitation is particularly challenging when addressing complex situations that impact multiple services. Our public relations team is compelled to create multiple, shortened versions of the same announcement to fit this constraint, leading to an inefficient communication process that does not align with the capabilities of modern CMS platforms.
Increasing the character limit to at least 500 characters is a necessary enhancement. It will enable us to deliver comprehensive and clear messages without the need for creating multiple…

We will not be indexing the 440 into series. This field has been obsolete since 2008. Please use a bulk modification of your records to move 440 data to a supported field like 490.

Translation for passcode reset email and passcode reset process screens
Currently, the passcode reset email is not editable and is not available in any languages other than English. Please add support for custom email text in other languages.
Reasoning:
-Discover is clearly intended to offer customers the option to support multiple linguistic groups--see the extensive language string customization and support for a large number of languages in Discover itself. If this is a feature Discover wants to make available to customers, multi-language support needs to be throughout the product, not just in some areas.
-The "Patrons are permitted to reset passcode" toggle is global, so customers that want to turn…8 votesRequested that this be submitted through Support as a bug.

Links to unavailable items should have a "No Items Available" page instead of 404
We have many bib records with no items available (Lost, Missing, etc). Unfortunately these still show up in "similar item" suggestions in the catalog.
Currently if you click on one it takes you to a 404 page.Once on the 404 page, you can't simply click back to go to where you were, since that seems to take you to a page that forwards you back to the 404. The only way to go back is if you hold down the back button to go back 2 pages (which many users will not know.)
Example of the issue:

8 votesHi Michael,
We were taking a look at your Syndetics information today based on your feedback to Danette. There is a problem with your synchronizations that is currently being fixed by support. You should not normally see 404s when you data is synching properly.

Items with no availability shouldn't show up in suggestions
When a bib record has 0 available items (all items lost or missing), it shows up in the 'You May Also Like" section. When clicked on, it takes the user to a 404 page.
It seems that these items are suppressed in direct searches - so they should probably also be suppressed from being suggested.
8 votesThere is no way to accomplish this type of restriction in the records that are sent to syndetics as a representation of the bibs that are available in the catalog.

baker and taylor integration/Boundless
I would really love to see the Baker and Taylor "Boundless" interface refined. Talking to reps from B and T, it appears that the API is currently able to pass credentials, however in Vega you have to log into the B and T site to retrieve items. It would be more seamless and less confusing for patrons to at least authenticate them on the site when checking "get item" from Vega. Eventually, a tight integration like what we have with Overdrive would be awesome.

Translate the texts in Share Emails
As a Swedish library, we need the ability to translate the text strings within the email sharing feature.
"Take a look at the following item
Publication date:
Author:Check availability and additional information in"
We assume the same goes for Vega customers in other non-English-speaking countries.
6 votesWould you mind putting this request in through support as a Problem Report. We consider any lacking translations a bug and I want to track this through our Problem Reports rather than enhancements.

Show original release date (for movies) / original publication date (for books) / etc
It would be really nice if we could prioritize showing the original release date year over the publication year of DVDs in particular.
This would probably be helpful for books too, but for movies the DVD publication date is especially irrelevant and confusing to most patrons.
Many items share titles, and the original year is an important way to find what you are looking for.
This information is often not in the cataloging info (I don't understand why, but then I also don't have an MLIS), but I would think it could be pulled from Syndetics Unbound or LibraryThing.
6 votesWe cannot support a feature that doesn't use data from the MARC record to display data. A request could be sent to Syndetics to add this data to a book profile widget or something similar.

Further refine the availability filter to work for Overdrive titles
The availability filter is more helpful now that it can filter out titles which have no physical items available. Checking "at library" does indeed find only titles that have an item available on the shelf. Thank you! But if you check "online" for availability, it just shows everything from Overdrive - it doesn't actually filter out the unavailable Overdrive titles.
6 votesThis cannot be done for OverDrive and other econtent. Vega has to ping the econtent vendor API for each individual title separately in order to get 'availability' status. It's impossible to do this for all search results rather than just the displayed page of results and return correct availability on the fly for a facet.

Account Portal notification information should distinguish between phone call and text message
The "Preferred Contact Method" section in Account Portal displays a phone number with "Home phone" or "Mobile phone" prepended to it if the patron is signed up to receive phone calls or text messages. However, the "Home phone" and "Mobile phone" prefix don't correlate to whether the patron is receiving calls or texts, it's determined solely by which phone number field is being used in the ILS or by the order in which the patron has added/removed phone numbers in Account Portal.
Please update how this information is displayed so that patrons can tell which notification method they are actually…

Consistency for authors who have initials
There seems to be zero consistency for getting search results for authors who have any variety of initials as part of their name. For example, if you search for books by the author T.L. Swan, you will yield no search results unless you figure out to search specifically putting the periods as follows: T. L Swan or Swan, T. L
This makes no sense and is incredibly confusing. Any variety of where the periods are should yield the same search results, regardless of whether I input tl swan, t.l. swan, etc.5 votesThis should be a problem report submitted to support

Expand Synching of ILS Codes
While "Material type, status, and (Sierra only) message code synchronization" is offered, it doesn't appear that we are able to sync other fixed fields that are changed in an item record. For example, updating the OPACMSG field in the item record is not reflected in Vega, even after running the sync. Changing the OPACMSG in an ITEM record does not get activated by the sync function in Vega admin…you must update the bib as well and then run the extraction (or wait overnight). Aside from making the documentation more clear, ideally syncing is expanded to reflect changes to items w/out…

When the setting for reading history is not active, have the option to suppress the opt-in button from patrons. Currently, it is displayed, which causes some confusion among patrons.

Limit holds pickup location to item location
Allow to limit holds pickup only to item location.
This is similar to what can be done in Sierra using the Home pickup parameter in the loan rule. Vega does not offer this option and does not apply this value from Sierra loan rules.3 votesThis is not a Vega Discover problem. This is a Sierra API problem. If a title cannot be picked up anywhere other than the item home location Sierra should be telling us this. We recently added a feature that presents a second step in the hold workflow when this is configured correctly in Sierra and an item can only be picked up at a certain set of restricted collections.
If things are not working as you expect I recommend you first speak to support to check your Sierra settings and if this can't be resolved there put in an enhancement for the Sierra APIs.

better renew item failed message
We have had several customers state that the error message that displays when you try to renew an item that cannot be renewed is misleading and "makes them feel like they have done something wrong". The image is fine, but we just want to change the text around the image. The customer has not really made an error - it is just that the item they want to renew cannot be renewed because there are holds on the title. [Note: I cannot attach the image and have tried various formats. The image text says "ERROR" and shows a woman at…

Sync Showcase Button Permissions
Right now, the "Sync to ILS" button is available on any showcase that pulls from Sierra, but that button only does anything if you're logged as the owner of that showcase. If you attempt to sync to the ILS as another user, there's a generic error generated. That button should not even be available if the user does have the permissions to take that action.
