  1. Currently, the new 7.4 item language field is using the same Languages table used in patron registration. For patron records, the language preference field displays in their account in PowerPAC. Patrons use this field to select their preferred notification language.

If a library wants to add a new language to the Languages table, it will be added as an option for both item records and patron accounts. This is problematic, because many libraries purchase materials in far more languages than they offer notices in. If a library adds additional language options to this table, they risk that patrons will select…

  3. Frontline staff currently have an alert to click through when they view an Authority record. Could there be separated permission levels to allow staff to View an Authority Record without clicking through the pop-up, vs Modifying these records?

  4. It would be a real timesaver if Polaris could automatically convert AACR2 records to RDA records upon import. Even if only partial changes could be made, it would be a big help to our catalogers.

  5. Some libraries use tools like Deep Freeze (that discard any changes to previous work sessions) or manage settings so that browser caches are cleared when closed or when the user logs out. Since Leap Offline stores data transactions in the browser cache, anything that is not uploaded to the database will be lost in such occurrences.

  6. The item price field allows for high values to be entered into it. Which means things like item barcodes or ISBN numbers can set the price of an item in the billions. This incorrect price can then appear in places like "you saved" receipts for patrons and on other reports that are then difficult to correct.

In addition to offering the ability to set the maximum price, I think this feature should be enabled by default with a price of $9,999 and then a record set should be created at upgrade time for staff to review for any titles that…

  7. Patron records have 5 UDFs and 10 Custom Data Fields – item records have none of these. As a result, many libraries end up doing some weird stuff with the Name of Piece and Temporary Shelf Location. This idea would add 10 or so custom item record fields that libraries can choose how they would like to use.

Ideally, fields would be capable of multiple data types including freetext, Boolean, date, or numeric. In a perfect world, it could also support a drop down list like the UDFs! The fields would also be searchable in the find tool, just like…

  8. Imagine the possibilities if we could automate the process of bulk changes to bib records as part of an import profile.

Other ILS systems offer robust manipulation of bib records upon import, but this is missing from Polaris.

By allowing bib bulk changes to be stored in templates, just like item bulk changes, we can streamline the process and save valuable time. Imagine having a set of predefined steps for importing bibs from specific sources or of certain record types. It would ensure consistency and accuracy, eliminating manual effort.

    1. Allow bib bulk changes to be stored in templates like item…

  9. We would like to be able to create status codes. We have renamed some we don't use to make them useful, but that is limited. We use in-repair for multiple problems and it would be better for our staff to be more specific. For example, it is used for items with bedbug damage that will definitely be leaving us and it would be good to know that at a glance, as opposed to DVDs that need to be resurfaced and are also in-repair along with books with missing pages or water damage, etc. So, instead of just the one status,…

  10. As Polaris currently exists (v7.3 at my library), User 1 wants to share a bibliographic record set with User 2 and User 3. In order to do this, they have to change the record set's owner from User 1 to Organization 1. But this allows all members of Organization 1 with the permissions "Cataloging Record Sets: Modify" and "Cataloging Record Sets: Delete/Undelete" to make changes to that record set. Let's say that at some point down the road, User 4 sees this bib record set owned by Organization 1 and thinks they're being helpful by updating or deleting it. They…

  11. In the client, duplicate detection for MARC records is triggered by (re)saving the record, but can also be triggered separately as an action under the Tools menu. In Leap, resaving the record is the only way to trigger the function. This means cataloguers have to do a fake edit in order to un-grey-out the save button and click past any other functions, such as MARC validation, before they can get to the matching record(s).

Having duplicate detection as a separate function (maybe under Actions or as a button in the MARC view) would save cataloguers time and extra clicking.

  12. It's great being able to bulk-add records to a record set, but it would also be helpful to be able to bulk-remove records from a record set based on either another record set, or an Excel file.

Today in larger record sets it can be a pain to remove a medium to large amount of records. Our staff may work with 10,000+ entry record sets, and need to remove records meeting certain criteria that isn't visible in the fields when viewing a record set. This idea would give a user the flexibility to fill a separate record set based on…

  15. Our Cataloging staff frequently have to place item-level holds on multiple items from the same bib record when making updates to the collection. Currently in Leap, these holds display in the patron's account with only the title, format, and call number. From this information it is impossible to tell which specific items have been placed on hold. Including the barcode and the assigned branch of the item would make it easier to tell different item-level holds apart when the items all have the same title.

  16. It would be great to have an option to go back and view recent search history or search results in the find tool in Leap. I often close out of a search too soon and realize I need to go back for more information, or realize that I actually had the results I needed two searches ago.
Being able to quickly view recent search results rather than constructing the whole search again would save a lot of time.

  17. In the same way that you can bulk select multiple non-sequential emails in web email services and right click to take action, Leap should allow users more flexibility to bulk select records to be added to a record set. This is something that is useful in the windows staff client and should be available in the web Leap interface. Also, please add a Load All option at the top of Leap retrieval/record sets to take place of the karate chop, instead of having to scroll to the bottom of the results to access the Load More button.

  18. I realized recently that all our bibliographic records have the Modification Date populated, even new records. It turns out that the process of creating the record will update the Modification Date due to an aspect of the process. This doesn't seem part of the intended design, so it would make sense to correct the process to stop adding a Modification Date entry.

    Idea Value
This may cause confusion for staff working with bib records, and in general it's not good from a record metadata quality perspective to have misleading modification details. It can be filtered around in queries (the modifier…

  19. In LEAP, please add the ability for a user to create a bibliographic record set from a file of ISBNs or Control Numbers..

    Idea Value
LEAP can create item record sets using an 'add from file' option that uploads item records by barcode - and LEAP can create a patron record set by uploading a file of Patron IDs.

We would like to have a similar function that allows us to create a bibliographic record set by uploading a file of ISBNs or Control Numbers.

  20. In the staff client, we can set a default file for a particular import profile. When that import profile is used, the file is already selected and we don't have to search for it. We'd like this same thing in Leap, but currently aren't able to set a default file and have to search for it every time.

    Idea Value
This would prevent having to search for the exact same file every time when importing. It would save time, is more efficient, and already works well in the staff client.
