Polaris 7.5 - "Declared Damaged" option needed YES.....
Patrons often have an item that is damaged and want to pay to have it replaced. At the moment the only choice we have is to declare the item is lost, so the patron can be charged and pay for it right then and there. The "Declare Lost" option is technically not true since they do have the item in their hands. I would like to have a choice of both "Declare Damaged" and "Declare Lost."

The option "Declare Damaged" in the case of a damaged item would be more accurate since the item is truly NOT LOST, which occurs frequently at my branch. Most patrons don't come in to say I lost an item please charge me, it's only when they have damaged something.
This added option would also show cataloging staff that this item is truly not coming back and needs to be reordered sooner than later.

I like this idea simply because there is a difference between Lost (items that might come back, maybe someday) and Damaged (they need to be replaced).

Yes! This is very important to us. Right now damaged items get mixed in with Lost items and it's a mess. Also, I don't think this belongs in Acquisitions - it's a Circulation function.
