  1. Our previous LMS had functionality within the Solus app, where we could enter a collection code in the Solus CMS, and as new items were added in the collection it would automatically feed into a new items carousel on the app. It was a "set and forget" feature.

With Polaris, it looks like our only options are to enter Bib IDs or ISBNs, or manually create & update Record Set IDs.

It would be a great time saver if there was an option for an automated new items carousel. We raised the issue with our account manager who spoke to…

  2. A consistent piece of feedback we get from front-line staff is that patrons struggle to find where to turn on Reading History and that they themselves often forget where it is located. Having it buried within "My Record"-->"Contact Information and Preferences" and having to scroll down to it apparently is not effective. Having the "Reading History" tab always visible under the patron's name on the left-hand menu would be more effective, instead of having it only appear once Reading History has already been turned on.

  3. We recently had a location close for a few weeks for a construction project. During that time, we turned it off as a holds pickup option in the PAC. However, patrons who were logged into their accounts and had that location as their default holds pickup location could still place holds for pickup at that location using One-Click. The only way to completely stop patrons placing holds for pickup at our closed location was to disable One-Click completely. This annoyed patrons at our locations that remained open, who saw a popular feature of the PAC disappear without warning for seemingly…

  5. Dark mode is preferred by many users due to lower brightness and less eye strain, as well as less screen glare. Support Dark Mode for Leap!

  6. When I browse in the PAC (specifically, by call number) it provides a list of call numbers. I can choose one, and am brought to it. But, if I want to look at the neighboring items, I have to "Go back to Browse Results" and select the next one from the list. It would be much easier to arrow back/forward between results without returning to the results list.

  7. MARC records for non-Roman language materials come to us from OCLC with the vernacular script in the 880 fields. Since that doesn't display in Polaris/Leap like we want it to, we have been using MARC edit to swap the 880 fields with the transliterations contained in the regular MARC fields. We are hoping there can be a better way, and Polaris can simply let us choose to use the 880 fields for display when they are present OR display the 880 information alongside the transliteration.

There are several places where the transliteration appears when we'd like the vernacular script to…

  8. We would like to see a new format of "Graphic Novel" which could be used as a limiter in the PAC and in Leap. It could use the fixed fields in the MARC record when the 008 is for books with a 6 in "Nature of contents" (positions 24-27). This would help staff and patrons.

  9. Currently, when a user clicks on the library’s logo in the PAC header, we can specify a URL that opens. However, when they click it, the URL defaults to opening in the same page rather than in a new tab, causing the user to lose their PAC page and possibly their search results.

It would be helpful to have a branch-level option to change that default to open a new tab instead. It could be included with the other configuration options under Profiles > PowerPAC > Page Header Options in System Administration.

Yes, it is possible to ‘force’ a new…

  10. The way the PAC currently works, the three buttons on the right of each search result (Availability, Full Display, and Place Request) always appear if the bib is for a physical item, but only "Full Display" appears for e-resources. This indicates that the PAC already has the capability to suppress these buttons if conditions specific to the search result are met. It would be helpful if this ability could be expanded so that if all the items attached to a bib record for a physical item are not holdable, the "Place Request" button does not appear. The appearance of that…

  11. Currently, when a patron is placing a request for ILL via OCLC in the Polaris PAC, Polaris offers a "local item" to hold if the item is in the local Polaris database. Unfortunately, I have just learned from my Site Manager it is only checking title/author to suggest a match, not format. We have seen the PAC suggest a "local item" for different format (DVD when a Blu-Ray is requested; regular print when a large print is requested) in addition to different item entirely (a remake of a movie when the original is requested; a tv adaptation when a feature…

  12. We think it would be helpful for patrons to see Waiver Requests as "Submitted" or "Pending", "Approved", and "Denied" for better understanding. See screenshot which illustrates the lack of that detail now.

  13. Libraries need a way to quickly alert communities to closures during an emergency across all PAC pages. A banner appears across all pages of the PAC and is easily edited.

  14. There is currently no warning if a patron selects titles in one of their saved title lists with the intent to place a request but then accidentally clicks the Remove button instead.

Providing either a warning message, as is the case for things like canceling holds, or putting deleted titles in something like a trash can for 30 days or so, would prevent accidental deletion and related frustration and improve the user experience.

  15. As a library with a lot of historical serials, it would be very helpful to have barcodes visible in the OPAC so if I want to look at a serial issue that's a troublemaker in the catalog, I don't have to scroll through sometimes hundreds of issues in the client/LEAP to find the one I wanted to investigate.

  16. Please allow libraries to limit online registrations by their selected geographic location (state, county, city, zip code, etc.). We have too many people signing up that are outside our location and then using the resources which eats up our budget thus robbing our true patrons from their share of the resources.

We currently have to comb through the registrations and find the "out of area" one and manually delete them. Would be better to prevent them in the first place. Never goodwill to give and then have to take away.

This will help Library staff and Library patrons.

  17. Add a link generator to the Record Set application. There's way too much room for error in expecting staff to create a custom URL every time we need a record set. It would make sense to have it near the Export function under the Actions menu. Thanks for considering!

  18. Currently, when the If patron is blocked: Block in PAC/SIP option under the Staff Client and PAC tab of the Hold Options parameter is enabled, patrons are only blocked from placing a request if they exceed the hold limits for their Patron Code.

We would like for this blocking to also include the 2nd level fine amount, similar to how their request would be blocked in the staff client/Leap when the Block in Staff Client option is enabled.

  19. We are part of a state-wide consortium and the holds count for titles in PowerPAC displays total number of holds for the consortium, making it look like a very long wait for a popular title. If we have purchased Advantage copies of this title, we would like the Advantage holds to display to patrons instead of consortium-wide holds.

As an example: With the release of the Christopher Nolan movie "Oppenheimer", everyone was interested in the book that it's based on, American Prometheus. When we searched for "American Prometheus" in PowerPAC, we saw that there were 452 holds on only 10…

  20. After selecting a title and clicking on the Availability button, a list of items is shown with their check out status. On that screen it would be great if there was a check box to turn on a filter that would only show the checked in statuses. Currently, the customer sees a very long list of checked out items and may not see the one item that is available to have now.
