  1. When constructing an order, the latest ISBN from the bib record is used. It would be helpful if instead, the vendor could put the preferred ISBN/UPC into the 970 and when the PO was built, that PO number could be pulled from the 970 for the library rather than displaying a red exclamation and requiring the staff to manually check the PO to make sure Polaris selected the proper ISBN/UPC from the order record.

  2. Currently, when limiting a search to the material type "Book", electronic resources (eBooks) are displayed as well. It would be nice if the material type "Book" only produced physical book results.

  3. The weeding workflow and weeding record sets were added to LEAP in Polaris 7.5. I would like some more functionality in the weeding record sets at all stages of the approval process -- namely being able to bulk change and delete records from the set, being able to remove records from an approved record set, and being able to unapprove a list.

I know there are options in the weeding template to change the record status to withdrawn and have the records automatically deleted when approved. However, we change our records to a status of "weeded" (we took over bindery)…

  4. Often library staff place requests on specific items and need to follow-up when the item is returned (check condition, re-label, compare copies of title, replace, discard, etc.). Our previous ILS supported a hold notes field that would display the saved note when the item was checked out. This reminded staff of why they had requested the item, or would let another staff member know what needed to be done with the item when the hold was filled. The note would either display as a pop-up or as part of the table of checkout information. The note could be printable if…

  5. If the check box is checked for Use Name on Identification it only applies to print and telephone notices. It needs to apply to email notices too.

  6. I would like an option to bulk print spine labels in 2 different circumstances. 1. For all items on a particular purchase order. 2. From a file (similar to the Check In>Action>Load From File works.

  7. When using a record set, it would be helpful if there was a column that shows when the item was added to the record set. We use record sets to create carousels that show new items on our PAC. The date added to record set would be helpful so we could remove the oldest things when refreshing our carousels.

  8. Our site manager said this was a previous long-standing enhancement request and suggested I check here and vote on it. I can't find anything that matches, so am starting an idea.

We have several patrons at different branches placing holds on items they already checked out so as to bypass our unwritten guideline of leaving items available to others for 24 hours before being checked out again. Now, for older items this isn't a problem and staff are allowed to make exceptions, but this practice is becoming a issue. We do allow one renewal, but apparently this isn't enough for…

  10. Currently, there is only one way to receive and invoice orders in Leap. This workflow consists of receiving the line item from the purchase order and copying it to the invoice. In the Client, staff have the option to use a more efficient process called Rapid Receipt. Rapid Receipt allows line items to be received and copied to the invoice at the same time. In our consortia, a significant amount of libraries use Rapid Receipt. They are concerned that it has not been added to Leap yet. Since Rapid Receipt is available in the Client, the same functionality should be…

  11. The patron birthdate field and postal code field both require correct formatting to save the record. If would be helpful to staff if Leap could have auto-formatting (as many web forms do), e.g. insert the dashes in the birthdate (yyyy-mm-dd) and capitalize and insert the space in the postal code (A1A 1A1).

Adding the calendar date picker back for the birthdate field would also be great, assuming that the issues it used to cause could be resolved.

  12. Today if a record set is deleted it's still visible in the list of record sets a specific record is a part of (either on the Record Sets tab in Leap, or list of Linked Record Sets in the client). However there's no clear indicator that it's a deleted record set, which can cause confusion for staff. It would be helpful if the Record Status column was visible, and if there was an option to not display deleted record sets (ideally the setting could be applied at various organizational levels). Both these options would allow more clarity and control for…

  13. We need a note field in the item record that pops up as a warning box at check out and check in for notes that staff and patron may need to act on before checking out and in. Notes such as "Patron needs to sign a hold harmless form." Or the price of this piece of the kit is $250.00. Or "Item must be returned to this library." Staff should be able to close the window once they have read it.

  14. Currently, the new 7.4 item language field is using the same Languages table used in patron registration. For patron records, the language preference field displays in their account in PowerPAC. Patrons use this field to select their preferred notification language.

If a library wants to add a new language to the Languages table, it will be added as an option for both item records and patron accounts. This is problematic, because many libraries purchase materials in far more languages than they offer notices in. If a library adds additional language options to this table, they risk that patrons will select…

  15. Current functionality says "If the item is held at your library (the pickup branch is the same as your log-in branch), and you change the pickup branch, the hold will automatically change from Held to Shipped."

We would like this to function the same as if the item is not at your location and mark the item so it appears on the holds to transfer list. The staff will then scan the item to mark it as shipped. We have staff that work at different service points no where near our holds shelves and it would be convenient if they…

  17. We have a number of custom reports in the Polaris Staff Client that need to be accessible to our Circulation Staff in Leap. Ideally all Polaris canned reports should also be available to all staff in Leap. One custom report we use is for patrons who don't have an email address. Their notification option is set to mailing address. However, if they have a hold we call them instead of sending the hold notice by mail. The custom report is a quick way to find the patrons that we need to call. Staff have to have access to both Polaris…

Just to set expectations, our strategy at this time is for users to access reports through the SSRS portal. As Eleanor mentioned in her comment, we are adding customizable menu options to Leap in 7.5 with the intent that they be used to link users to the reporting interface.

  18. Do this by creating a record set and using 'Ad Hoc Bulk Change' or 'Bulk Change' to change the circulation status from 'Lost' to 'Withdrawn', retaining the bill and item information on the patron's account.

  19. Our librarians make regular use the staff client's bibliographic option to sort by "most popular" when searching by author, particularly when supporting the needs of children and families. Please provide sort by options in Leap to match those available in the staff client.

  20. As a multi-branch system that floats some of our collections, we desperately need a way to set limits on the number of copies on shelf without giving up our ability to set limits on overall floating collection size. Currently in Polaris you must choose one limit or the other. Being able to spread copies throughout our system makes them more available for discovery and increases circulation.
