  1. Customers want to know what titles they've checked out even if the library no longer has it. It would be ideal if Sierra (and subsequent discovery layers can pull the info) could save the title and author in the record metadata so that even if the bib record is deleted, the customer can see it.

  2. Can we please have a function to merge bib records? For many reasons libraries end up with duplicate bib records. Currently the only way "merge" a bib is to manually transfer any attached records one by one. This is a cumbersome and inefficient workflow.
The functionality could work similarly to the Merge duplicate patron record functionality.
This would allow the user to select the source record bib number and the destination record bib number.

    Ideally, the function should:

-Include the option to transfer any attached records.
-Any item or bib level holds attached to the source bib should also be…

  3. The "import records" within Create List was a game changer. But going a step further would be adding the ability to direct scan barcodes into a review file. This would save time in circumstances where you have only a few records you need to update.

  4. It is currently an option to be able to set the default view of an item record across Sierra. However, it would be nice to be able to have a different default view set for the different functions in Sierra.

    For example:
When in the Circulation function - I'd prefer the default view to be Hold.
When in the Cataloging function - I'd prefer the default view to be Item.
When in the Acquisitions function - I'd prefer the default view to be Order.

I understand that I could just have multiple windows open and set the default view differently…

  5. There is currently a setting allowing us to prevent logins from editing records with a location code outside of their current scope. However, users are able to edit records in their scope to have location codes outside of their scope, which then blocks them from being able to edit the records again. This happens accidentally sometimes, and is particularly a problem in Rapid Update. It would be great if item location dropdowns in Rapid Update, and possibly the item record as well, only showed locations in the user's scope in order to prevent this problem. Alternately, the system could prevent…

  6. When working in a Sierra bib record, I would like to click on the author, series and subject fields so I can see a list of records that have those same authors, series, and subjects. Encore has this capability. I would like to see it in Sierra.

  7. When you export a file with Scheduler FTP, it currently adds a time and date stamp on the end of the file name. We have no control over this addition to the file name. This stamp makes the file completely useless for many applications. Many of the vendors we might send files to require particular file extensions on our files, such as .mrc. Since this stamp is added to the end of the file name, it is not possible to specify the required file extension.

As a result Scheduler is completely incompatible with Ingram's Ipage service for example.

    We need…

  8. Scheduler's output MARC records function requires that you send something in the Remote Directory field. If you are sending to the root of the remote server, then you have to include "./" in the Remote Directory field or your export will fail.

It would be extremely helpful if "./" were included in the default set up for output in this field. I just had a ticket open for months with the help desk, and the solution was "./" in Remote Directory. Your own support staff doesn't know this and/or doesn't remember it. This should just fill in automatically when I…

  9. Currently at the time of creating the header report it is possible to exclude records without CAT DATE. We request to add a new filter to the heading report from the fixed field "Bib Code 3" in order to exclude bibliographic records with the value pending validation (supressed records from webpac).

  11. When going through various Headings Reports, we'll end up reviewing the same bib record that has multiple first-time-use entries throughout the report. It would be nice if they could be sorted by the bib record to reduce staff time and stay in the same record as long as needed.

Perhaps the bib record could be pulled from the Entry column and inserted into a new column in the display that could then be sorted like the other available columns.

  12. A Keyword search in the SDA Search/Holds does not sort titles as expected because of the number of indexed characters in title keys.

Innovative has noted: "These title keys are a fixed number of characters and is based on approximately the first 30 characters of the title. We don't have any way to adjust this in the system configuration. "

We have DVD titles that include the title, season, and episodes. These do not file as expected in a SDA search because all of the metadata is longer than 30 characters.

I understand that the "phrase" facet after performing a…

  13. Can we have a feature in Global Update that allows us to attach item records to bib records from a review file? For example, we discovered we had a batch of 50 bib records without items (these were electronic and just need an item all with the same location code) but now I have to go through each one and individually attach. It would be great to do this in one fell swoop.

  14. In a load profile you can only use @ov_attach_insert with @ov_action of a, b, c, or e. However it is possible to do an a match and attach with any @ov_action if you use the @ov_priority function. It should be possible to use @ov_attach_insert in that situation as well.

I use @ov_attach_insert on all my match and attach loaders to insert a note field I use in all my records, but I can't use that in the case of @ov_priority loaders because I can't use @ov_attach_insert.

  15. Spine Label Queues are only available in the current session and do not save. We are able to print spine labels (sheet or continuous) from Create Lists, but cannot apply print templates with this function. Can we either have the option to apply print templates when wanting to print batches of labels via Create Lists and/or have the option to hold on to our spine label queues for more than just the current session?

  16. At the end of the year/before we open on January 2nd, we have to manually zero out the YTDCIRC and replace the LYRCIRC with YTDCIRC. Besides being time-consuming if you have a lot of records, this process also then changes the last updated date of the item record, which makes that date less helpful, especially for missing, lost, etc items. This should be done automatically, and it should not change the last updated date of the item record.

  17. Currently you can define fixed field data in a record template and have that data loaded into records via a load profile when using data exchange. Variable fields, however, are not available in this process. Make variable fields in a template available for inserting into records via the load profile and data exchange process.

    Idea Value
Currently when we have a note or message that needs to be inserted into every record in a load we do it through global update after the load. If we could add this note or message to the template being used with the @dflt…

  18. In Rapid Update, if a value is selected by first typing in the value field and then clicking on a result in the dropdown menu, the wrong value shows up in the Current Command list. According to Innovative, this is because the expected workflow is to use either just the keyboard or just the mouse. The functionality should be adjusted to allow the mixed use of keyboard and mouse.

    Idea Value
Library staff don't always notice when they follow this workflow and then end up with the wrong value selected. In our consortium, this sometimes happens with location codes, and…

  19. Even if III isn't able to provide a full-fledged editing interface for Load Profiles, add a mode in which we can view Load Profiles and Put PC to back them up. That's so much easier than having to setup FTP to the site, which our IT prohibited when I first gave up on it. This should apply to both m2btabs and m2bmaps.

    Idea Value
Make it possible to backup load profiles on PC, which would enable much easier documentation of the variety of load tables and maps, and the load profile menu.

  20. The Load Tables are a critical point for any data management of a library. While many functions and features have been migrated from character-based system access to web access or within the SDA, this feature has not changed. Programming with what seems like a unix-based editor reminds me of the "dark ages" of programming.

    Idea Value
Many times the syntactical error or omission of a line in my load table editing sessions happen because of the UNIX-like environment where editing takes place. Increased modernization of the editor would streamline the process.

This idea was selected for development from the All Systems Go challenge.

Design of this enhancement is underway. I will provide an update when we have determined which release will include this enhancement.
