  1. Please enable the 'Refine Results' option for our 'Searchable Showcases.' Currently, the feature only filters by title and author, but patrons browsing a list would benefit from additional filtering options. If a patron already knows the author and title, they would typically use our catalog directly to search for that material.

Example photo 1) Showing the search bar at the top right included in showcase search that is limited to title/author on that particular list.

Example photo 2) Refine Results which is HEAVILY used by our patrons for finding material to place on hold.

  2. Patrons doing multiple searches want to keep facets active. For example, someone looking for physical Adult DVDs at a particular building doesn't want to reset the facets with each search for a different title.

  3. Add a facet for "Available now" which would filter to only show items which are currently available to be checked out.

This should work with other filters, so for example, people could look for items at Location A that are currently on the shelf and available to be checked out.

This should also work with online content, for example only showing ebooks/e-audiobooks which are available to be borrowed.

The Availability Facet is the Available Now Facet.

At Library only shows works where at least one item is available.

Online only shows works that are online (we cannot have live availability for online content because it requires pinging the econtent vendor for each title, that is why the availability is only populated as the content loads in search results now)

You can combine the Availability Facet with the Location Facet and other facets to limit your search results to materials at a certain locations.

  4. Example search "all new" and "7/1/24-8/1/24" or something similar and then be able to limit that easily to our location through using c:239.

new would mean newly added, not necessarily publish date.

  6. Currently, the summary displayed in the resource card is from Syndetics. We would prefer the summary to come from the 520 field, and the Syndetics summary to be included as an extra below the resource where all the other Syndetics info is. Or perhaps, it would be better to allow a choice in admin for where the summary comes from - 520 field or Syndetics. (We'd also like the 520 to be indexed for searching.)

  7. Add a separate tab (alongside audiobook, book, large type, etc) for Playaways. Strictly speaking, they are an audiobook, but they are a very different format from audiobook CDs so having them both rollup into the audiobook tab isn't ideal for patrons interested in one or the other. And to keep a Playaway from automatically rolling up requires adding unnecessary verbiage in the 245 field.

  8. The availability filter (the first filter you see) should either be edited to make it clearer what that filter means or removed altogether. It's not clear that availability in this context means available to borrow now, not available as in owned by a library. Either make it so this filter makes it clear that we are talking about available to borrow now, or remove it because it's very confusing when you're a patron who isn't spending time playing around with the catalog to understand the nuances of it. The way it's worded also just makes it seem like you're simply…

  9. Users need to place item level requests in a variety of circumstances. The most significant issue is they are currently unable to request specific issues of magazines. They can only place a request at the title/work level – which means they end up getting a completely random issue. This is also a problem for Serial format titles for things like travel guides that may have two item records attached, one for the 2020 edition and one for the 2023 edition. There is currently no way to request the specific item. This also includes copy-specific holds for any item on a…

    Hi All,

Vega already supports volume and items as volumes type holds for materials with volume information.  Please reach out to your support representative to gain insight in how to add the required volume information to your materials so that Vega will present a volume or item selector when a patron places a request on these materials.  The feature was added for Polaris at the end of 2021.

  11. Allow an option to display the Due Date if an item is checked out. Also helpful: displaying item statuses such as whether something is "on order" or "on Holdshelf" or on the "Repair Shelf." These previously appeared under "Status" in encore. This is the #1 thing our patrons and staff miss seeing in Vega.

  12. Subjects (Concepts):

Vega needs to provide the bibframe Concepts as a list within the resource records so as to provide a way to do a search on the related terms from those specific bibs, not just from the facet limiters on the main results page.

  13. Our patrons want to be able to search for new-release titles on the Vega homepage. This is faster than doing a wildcard search and limiting by date-range.

  15. When logging in to a patron's account, they might not realize they can use their barcode or username, since it only says barcode. I log in with my username all the time. We would like to change the wording from barcode to "barcode or username" so it's clear that patrons have the option to use both.

    Hi Margaret,

You can change this easily today in your Vega catalog by going to the Staff Admin and using the Localization settings to edit your English strings file.

Search for 'loginFormBarcode' and edit this string to read, "Username or Barcode" and save.  Vega will immediately display this string instead in the login prompt.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

    Best Regards,

    Samantha Cunning
