  1. Polaris supports a preferred pickup branch for patrons. This request is to extend that support to allow the patron to set a preferred pickup area.

Many patrons prefer to 100% always use a particular pickup area, for example outside lockers. So, they shouldn't have to select that area everytime they make a request.

This would allow them to set their own preferred pickup area the way they can set a preferred pickup branch. This preferred pickup area should also be used when the staff bulk places a title on hold for a batch of patrons, again the same way the…

  2. Be able to bulk add stat codes. Currently we can only add at the branch level manually because the library and system level tables are too large. This requires a manual change or contracting Polaris every time we want to add stat codes for all locations.

  3. We've discovered the keyboard shortcuts in LEAP do not work when you have cap locks on. Our catalogers are a 50/50 split on those who always have cap locks on while they work and those who don't. I'd like to have the option available for those who find it easiest to catalog with the cap locks and use the shortcuts.

This is related to a couple of other ideas - https://ideas.iii.com/forums/951742-ils-polaris/suggestions/48517199-keyboard-shortcuts-for-marc-editor

  4. We often use the "Holds" reports of Simple Reports to watch demand on titles - especially the Hold Count report. It would be very helpful if UPC could be one of the output columns, so that we could copy it for media, which doesn't always have an ISBN in the vendor MARC.
Right now we have to output the bib record id, copy it and search in Polaris, then copy the UPC from there.

  5. We currently have the ability to set the default status for the 3 request manager views but it would be great to be able to set a default VIEW for request manager to open in as well. At our library, Request Manager is intensively used for receiving incoming INN-Reach requests (ILL view) and it would save time if we could make that the default view.

  6. We need a way to bring perennial critical patron info to staff attention without creating blocks for customers or forcing staff to open the full patron registration. Having this info in the patron record header or properties would be ideal. For example: at our library, customer registered at branch is not critical info yet it is the most prominent value displayed in the header after name and card number, if we could designate UDF values to take it's place (such as bookmobile stop or language assist needed) or have space to reveal a designated UDF value under patron properties, it…

  7. When staff log out of Leap at the end of their shift, Microsoft prompts them to sign out of their Microsoft account. I think it confuses staff, they click on the prompt and then they get logged out of their Microsoft account. They then have to log back in and due to MFA need to get a code to log back in. This isn't ideal.
Customer support said currently this behavior is how Leap with OAuth/SSO works. Leap uses the identity provider to control the login and logout when setup with OAuth/SSO. Can you place an enhancement request to see…

  9. The Polaris Transactions database TransactionID is an int data type. This 2,147,483,647 means the biggest number supported by the database. In our busy system, we're about halfway through the available TransactionIDs as we're about to reach 1 billion. This field should be moved up to a bigint data type. Otherwise inserting new data will fail.

  10. It would be nice to have the ability to set different email notice schedules for each branch.
We would like to line up our notice delivery times with the operating hours of our branches, or allow more frequent hold notice emails at a specific branch.

  11. It would be great if staff could create a record set of patrons to delete and a supervisor could review them before deletion, similar to how item records can be reviewed in a record set by a supervisor before deletion.

  12. Sometimes a single collection assignment for an item isn't enough. When you want to add an item to a collection only to find that it already belongs to another collection, it would be nice to be able to assign it to your collection as well. The item may belong to an awards collection like Newbery but also to a collection of picture books.

  13. In our Retain/Delete table we remove certain subject headings with specific indicators. When we save a Bib record, the Remote Authority Control checks EVERY heading then removes the tags marked for deletion and checks the headings again.

It'd be more efficient, time-wise, if Polaris deleted the tags first, then perform the Remote Authority Control.

  14. The multiple holds feature in Leap is really nice - unless you want to make sure that a bib you're selecting is actually the thing you want, the need for a preview option has been suggested in another Idea Exchange submission.

Another common use for multiple holds is creating what we at DPL call "Teacher Sets" where staff pull a bunch of topical items based on criteria provided by a teacher, place holds on them and then check them in to fill those requests and contact the customer.

Right now this is really clunky. Since there is no option to…

  15. We are part of a state-wide consortium and the holds count for titles in PowerPAC displays total number of holds for the consortium, making it look like a very long wait for a popular title. If we have purchased Advantage copies of this title, we would like the Advantage holds to display to patrons instead of consortium-wide holds.

As an example: With the release of the Christopher Nolan movie "Oppenheimer", everyone was interested in the book that it's based on, American Prometheus. When we searched for "American Prometheus" in PowerPAC, we saw that there were 452 holds on only 10…

  16. Being able to set a max limit on the number of holds by material type (or Collection) would be beneficial for items that are perpetually popular but additional copies cannot be purchased.
I.e. Museum passes - 500 bib level holds limit
this would also help to ensure hold request does not lapse due to long wait times

  17. Polaris' claim return function is great for locally-owned items but is problematic with INN-Reach. We are constantly reminding staff NOT to use Claim Return for INN-Reach items because it can break transaction links but they continue to do so. If system admin allowed us to exclude our INN-Reach and WorldCat material types from Claim Return and Claim Missing Part functions, it would reduce errors significantly.

  19. All use of Secure patron when customer has checkouts, holds, etc.

The secure patron function in Leap does almost exactly what we need for what we call suspended patrons (those not allowed on library property) - it blocks a customer's record and provides a clear, visual indicator that the account has been secured.

I can't use it though and had to create a workaround to accomplish much the same thing because Secure Patron is only an option when the patron has no account activity. This makes no sense and renders the function unusable.

  20. With 7.1, Polaris administrative settings can now be accessed on the web, which includes PAPI Key Management. However, the PAPI keys can be accessed and changed today by anyone with the permission 'Access Administration - Allow' (which gives basic access to system admin settings).

We give some of our staff access to admin settings, for activities like adding workstations and updating branch hours. As it stands these users can access and change the API settings through web-admin, but they should be secured so only systems administrators have access. This will be barrier for us sharing web-admin with our staff in…
