Remove patrons from hold queue when they check out non-holdable copy
Problem: Many patrons have holds on titles in Quick Pick or Lucky Day collections. When they "get lucky" and check out one of these non-holdable copies their original hold remains in the queue and the patron often neglects to cancel their hold.
Impact: Fulfilling these unnecessary holds wastes time for staff and patrons and delays trigging other patrons' holds as the item sits on the holdshelf until the expiration date. Collection budgets are also negatively impacted as these unnecessary holds can skew the item-to-holds ratio for high-demand items that selectors use to determine how many additional copies to purchase.
Solution: When the non-holdable item is checked out the system searches hold queue for a hold placed by the same patron and automatically removes their hold. A message confirming the removal could pop up in the SDA and on the self-checks before completing the transaction, giving the patron the option to keep their hold in place if they would like to. Alternatively a message could pop up after the transaction letting the patron know their hold has been cancelled.
Value: 1. Save the patron the extra step of remembering to cancel the hold for the item they checked out; 2. Save staff time triggering holds that will never be picked up; 3. Expedite the hold queue on holdable copies; 4. Improve accuracy of fulfillment rates by excluding holds that patron's don't complete; 5. Improve collection development by excluding unnecessary holds in high-demand holds reports
The product manager will review this idea for possible inclusion in a future release.

When a Skip Hold Check item is checked out, the patron's bib level hold should be removed. This would effectively streamline workflows and keep the Hold Queue moving forward. Reduction in Paging Lists and staff time.

I would love this. I suggested it a while back--can't remember how it did at the time--but it would really help us keep the items on the hold shelf moving, as it does seem that many patrons never go back to cancel their hold when they pick up a Lucky Day copy.

We have a "lucky day" / Bestsellers collection that is not holdable, with a 7 day loan period. It would be fantastic if this workflow existed, to save patron and staff time managing holds.

Ideally this could also apply in cases where we have separate bibs for a specific title (different editions, etc.) and all bibs/titles have holds. Staff and patrons end up putting title-level holds on all bibs, because it's a **** shoot which one will get triggered first. Patrons don't remember to cancel the holds on the other copies (and staff have no way of knowing they have holds on other bibs), so then a hold is triggered, item put on the shelf and then languishes until the holdshelf is cleared. It would be great if when you check out a title, if Sierra could detect you have a hold on another edition with the same title/author and ask if you want to cancel those holds.
