1. Increase the number of showcases that can be added to a Hero Carousel

   We feel the Hero Carousel is a good way to highlight items that do not have a cover image (ex. digital content such as streamed video).

   However, it is currently limited to 5 showcases/URLs. It would be great if the number could be increased.

2. Add Google Translate plug in

   Google translate currently works on Vega, but there is not a way to add the plug in to the header. Vega only has a limited amount of language translations built into the site. We want to give our patrons the ability to translate the site into additional languages.

3. please include 775 $a in Bibframe Concept: Agent (for translated works)

   As the 245$c field is not indexed we are struggling with how to find authors of translated works. The 775$a often has the anglicized version of the author's name that appears on the cover of a work. This cannot be searched for right now because the 245$c is not indexed. If the 775$a were indexed, this would help.

   Example:
   Title of book: Cursed bunny /|cBora Chung ; translated by Anton Hur.
   The 1XX and 6XX fields is the name authority: Chŏng, Po-ra,|d1976-|eauthor.

   The 775 field is this:

   Please index the 775$a field as agents for translated works.

4. Vega Admin - Locations lists

   We are a system with a single listing for both Level 1 and Level 2, and all of our 'locations' (and future/placeholder locations) are Level 3.
   1 - Level 1
   2 - Level 2
   3 - Library Name - Level 3
   4 - Library Name - Level 3
   5 - Library Name - Level 3

   We had intentionally placed our internal services 'locations' at the end of the list so they would be less likely to be interfiled with our listed locations.

   These locations seem to be sorted by digit (1, 10, 11, 12) even when its number isn't listed, not by the actual number in Gear/Settings > Library Defaults > Location Hierarchy (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) or by alphabetical order.

   Requesting options to adjust location sorting in Vega Admin.
   E.g., Level, omit Closed, then alphabetical (like the patron view sees)

   The current sorting/order in Vega Admin slows down processing time for updating location details, such as operating hours and exceptions (closure dates).

   Processing example: Since we have configured location and hours (including exceptions/closures) at the Level 3 - Branch, we must configure the exception/closures for each location. This allows branch-level versatility, such as extended closure for maintenance or construction project.
   As I updated the location hours through Menu/Settings > Page Customizations > User Tools > Configure, the order in both dropdown menus for "Guest library location default" and "Choose location" seems to match the sorted-by-digit list for "Level 3 - Branch", although the numbers aren't listed.

   We are a system with a single listing for both Level 1 and Level 2, and all of our 'locations' (and future/placeholder locations) are Level 3.

5. using the browser back button after logging in produces an authentication error

   If you are on a resource page, log in, and then use the browser back button, there is an authentication error. The error page cannot be edited. The error page is not intuitive and provides no way back to the main catalogue.

   The error is: Unexpected error when authenticating with identity provider".

   That has not been well received by our staff & customers.

6. Serials: Issue Selection Modal box

   When searching for Serials within Vega, and attempting to Place Holds, we'd like to point out / suggest two things:

   • Add a Select All option and/or individual checkboxes on each issue (add ability to place bulk hold for multiple serials)
   • Address the empty Search results modal / dialog box, since it gives users no feedback on what they're seeing when there are no matching results. It should at least show "Your Search Returned (0) results" or something.

   Attached first screenshot show a typical list of serials with the individual Place Hold buttons. This is where it would be nice to have a Select All button and/or individual checkboxes to place multiple holds.

   The second screenshot shows what the modal box looks like when no search results match. It doesn't indicate that there are no matches, it just appears blank / empt

   When searching for Serials within Vega, and attempting to Place Holds, we'd like to point out / suggest two things:

8. Display the MARC 773 field and index 773 $t

   We have over 23,000 bibliographic records in our legacy ILS that represent articles within serials and we continue to add new ones on a regular basis. We use the MARC 773 field to list the parent serial title, volume and issue number, and pages of the article, but this field does not display in Vega or Leap, making these articles impossible to find (unless a staff member views the MARC in Polaris.)

   Also, 773 subfield $t is not indexed so these records are not findable by a title search for the parent journal, only by searching the title and/or author of the individual article.

   Here's an example of the contents of a 773 field in our collection:

   773 08 ‡tAmerican Rhododendron Society journal.‡gv. 55, no. 2 (Spring 2001), p. 66-67.

9. Unified Authentication: OAuth (or SAML) Integration for staff Vega Discover access

   Our library currently leverages OAuth 2.0 with Google as our identity provider to authenticate librarians into Polaris LEAP. We would like to request the ability to integrate this same OAuth 2.0 (or SAML)/Google authentication workflow with Vega Discover. Since we understand that Vega Discover utilizes Keycloak on the backend, this integration should be technically feasible through Keycloak's identity brokering capabilities, where Keycloak would act as an intermediary between Vega Discover and our Google identity provider. This would allow our librarians to use their existing Google credentials to access Vega Discover, maintaining consistency across our library systems while providing centralized user management and eliminating the need for separate authentication credentials.

10. Bring back autofilling the 'Showcase block title'.

    Recently this was fixed in Vega intentionally, however this auto-filling used to save our staff time in their weekly tasks. Ideally when you select a showcase, the title would be auto populated into the 'Showcase block title' box. Instead, it remains unchanged from the previous showcase. In the page preview, the showcase itself successfully changes (the books reflect the new selection), but the title doesn't update. This means our staff must type in the title each time.

13. Item record synchronization with Discover

    Currently when the OPACMSG is changed from [NEW] to [--] in the item record it does not change the view in Discover. For Discover to reflect this change, you must suppress and then unsuppress the bib and then run a record extraction. Our patrons/staff use this message to know whether they are to look on the NEW display or in the stacks.

    This same request was placed back in November 2023 by Alison P.:
    Expand Synching of ILS Codes
    While "Material type, status, and (Sierra only) message code synchronization" is offered, it doesn't appear that we are able to sync other fixed fields that are changed in an item record. For example, updating the OPACMSG field in the item record is not reflected in Vega, even after running the sync. Changing the OPACMSG in an ITEM record does not get activated by the sync function in Vega admin…you must update the bib as well and then run the extraction (or wait overnight). Aside from making the documentation more clear, ideally syncing is expanded to reflect changes to items w/out having to resort to updating the bib as well.

    In line with ideas about customizing the experience more to the patron, and adding more useful information to the lists feature, I would like if the messages like "you have one copy checked out" or "you have one copy on hold" appeared when patrons are looking at their own lists (like it does on resource pages, but without having to click into each one to see the status). It could also be tied to data from the reading history to say "borrowed once before," etc. This would help patrons who are researching a topic and bookmarking many potential resources, or who just like to use the library a lot.

    For instance, after compiling a list and requesting a couple items, it can be easy to forget which ones you've already requested, and it would be great to have that information there on the list. This type of display would eliminate having to click away into holds, checkouts, reading history, or resource pages to find what you need.

16. Update "copies" quantity so that it means the same thing (reflects the same thing) for Books / versus eBooks/eAudiobooks from OverDrive

    We were attempting to update the "searchResultPageCopies" string so that it made more sense when viewing OverDrive eBooks / Audiobooks; we added the word "available" so that it would read "0 copies available" on OverDrive titles that were all checked out with waitlists.

    However, we've discovered that for physical books, the word "available" might be misleading, because for physical materials this tally seems to be a count of total items owned, rather than copies available.

    For example, we have a title where Books show 27 copies available, but that's not accurate because some are checked out and held; it is 27 copies owned. However, with eBooks / Audiobooks from OverDrive, this number is a tally of copies available.

    The "copies" should reference the same for Books and eBooks: either total quantity owned or total quantity available.

19. Merge Vega Nickname with Sierra Alias

    We are using the alias in the patron record in Sierra (field group tag c). This field group is indexed in the barcode-index, and patrons can use the alias for logging in to the patron account. The alias can also be used for logging in to the computers at the libraries and also for checking out e-media.

    Setting/changing the nickname in Vega has no correlation to the alias in Sierra and only works for logging into Vega.

    We fear this might be a bit confusing for our patrons.
    So we think changing the nickname in Vega should also insert/update the alias-field in Sierra.
