  1. Now that the thumbnail updates based on which tab of the roll-up is selected, if the thumbnail does not exist for that item type, it should display the image that does exist. For example, if the thumbnail exists for the book, but not for the audiobook, when you click on the audiobook tab, the thumbnail should display the book rather than displaying a generic blank image.

  2. With support ending for the MyLibrary! App, we will be encouraging patrons to use our mobile-friendly Vega Discover Catalogue in a web browser on their device. One thing that will be missed is the ability to click "Show Card" to display a scannable barcode for checking out with staff or at a Self Checkout station. Currently, the barcode number is included in the patron profile but it would be great to add a scannable barcode image there as well.

When choosing to sort a list under My Bookshelf (Checkouts, Holds, Reading History), initial articles and punctuation at the beginning of the title (such as quotation marks) are not ignored when sorting alphabetically by title. Could this be changed so that sorting alphabetically by title will follow the MARC record's 245 second indicator, which gives instruction on how many spaces to ignore when filing alphabetically (e.g., 245 second indicator of 4 would be used when "The " is at the beginning of a title)?

  4. We have recently had the need for Showcase Admins to search all of our showcases by author. This can happen when libraries suddenly want to remove or add an author to a number of showcases, but don't know if they are already a part of that showcase.

    We tried using the author record for this purpose, but authors can be associated with hundreds of resources so this is not a practical way to search for this data.

  5. Currently, if a patron is blocked from borrowing due to too many fines and/or long overdue items they can still place hold requests. This causes issues when the patron comes into the library expecting to be able to check out their held items and is met with a block.

    To make it clear to the patron, can there be a pop-up or banner displayed on Discover explaining this so patrons are made aware in the catalog before they place a hold.

  6. Implement a new function or API endpoint that allows libraries to easily retrieve the structured data (metadata, ID/ISBN, image URL, link) for any active "Showcase". The data should be presented in a standard, machine-readable format like JSON or XML.

    While Vega Discover allows us to embed the visual display of a Showcase on other websites, this does not give us the underlying data. This data could be used to include Showcases i mobile apps and integrate with other systems and external analytics tools. They could also be used by patrons to easily keep track of new additions to "permanent" showcases.

  7. Right now we can use scheduler to regenerate Create Lists review results. In order for a showcase to show the latest results someone needs to manual sync the list. It's against the point to be able to schedule a list, but not be able to schedule the associated show case.

    Example - I have scheduled a search to generate a list of our on order travel books. This is running daily. To update the associated showcase I have to remember to resync it.

  8. We would like the ability to post notes in the fines and fees section of the patron account to alert patrons of exceptions (in PayPal) when paying via credit card. There is confusion when payment do not go through and there is no reason given (void, incorrect credit card number entered, American Express not accepted...)

  9. Right now, the roll-up logic for DVDs and Blu-Rays uses the publisher information in addition to title to identify between different editions. However, there are a number of older films that have been republished by a new distributor, even though they are the same film, and despite being basically the same, do not roll-up. "Dune" (1984) is one example. "Fire Walk With Me" is another.

  10. Google translate currently works on Vega, but there is not a way to add the plug in to the header. Vega only has a limited amount of language translations built into the site. We want to give our patrons the ability to translate the site into additional languages.

  11. As the 245$c field is not indexed we are struggling with how to find authors of translated works. The 775$a often has the anglicized version of the author's name that appears on the cover of a work. This cannot be searched for right now because the 245$c is not indexed. If the 775$a were indexed, this would help.

    Example:
    Title of book: Cursed bunny /|cBora Chung ; translated by Anton Hur.
    The 1XX and 6XX fields is the name authority: Chŏng, Po-ra,|d1976-|eauthor.

  12. We are a consortium whose libraries SHOULD be able to manage their own showcases but should NOT be able to manage each others' showcases. Only we should be able to have system-wide showcase admin privileges. However, there is currently no showcase admin role at the collection site level, which means that we can't assign the showcase admin role to ANY of our libraries' staff users, since the current showcase admin role is simply too broad and all-encompassing. So we are left managing all our libraries' showcase admin tasks ourselves, which is less than ideal.

    What is the Problem we're solving and why?

    Vega Consortia Libraries and Multi-Library Organizations would like to be able to manage showcase admin access by site. Site Level Showcase Admin Users should be able to quickly filter available showcases to those created in their Collection Site as well as retain view and use access to all showcases created by librarians in their organization.


    Job Stories:

    1. As a Site Admin, I can assign Showcase Creators and Admins for specific sites, that are limited to creating and editing showcases in a particular site(s).
    2. As a Site Admin or Content Admin User, I can use the Home Page tools to filter, view, search, and find showcases that were made in the current Collection Site I am editing the Home Page display for.

When multiple copies of an item are assigned to the same library branch, the location drawer appears to list them in order of item record ID within the same location (this is also the case in our classic Polaris PAC, not sure how it is in Sierra). We have had feedback from front-line staff that they would like to see copies in Available status listed first, with copies in other statuses listed below. This reasoning makes a lot of sense to me.   15. Currently, the summary from the 520 field is displaying on the full resource card and dynamically updating by format, which is great. However, the subfield c is hidden, so anytime there is a subfield c present, there are simply two dashes at the end of the summary, suggesting that there might be something missing or cut off (which there is, in fact). Can the subfield c please be displayed along with the summary?

  16. Polaris (Leap and PAC) support the ability for a patron to opt to receive both an email AND text message or a phone call AND text message using the "additional text" checkbox feature. However, Vega only supports patrons selecting a single preferred notification method.

    Patrons often opt in to dual notifications at registration, but their Discover profile won't reflect the notifications they actually will receive. This is likely to create confusion and frustration for patrons as well as limiting the use of a valuable Polaris feature.

  17. We are a system with a single listing for both Level 1 and Level 2, and all of our 'locations' (and future/placeholder locations) are Level 3.
    1 - Level 1
    2 - Level 2
    3 - Library Name - Level 3
    4 - Library Name - Level 3
    5 - Library Name - Level 3

    We had intentionally placed our internal services 'locations' at the end of the list so they would be less likely to be interfiled with our listed locations.

  18. Patrons have noted that when showcases feature a large number of items, they find it frustrating to navigate the full showcase Library List display. Several have asked about whether an option to switch to a grid view can be added, similar to the option that is available to them in the search results.
