  1. For a better customer experience with our Chinese titles, we created some new non-MARC language codes in Sierra to separate out the Simplified and Traditional Chinese titles. Vega does not support non-MARC language codes, so it shows as codes instead of the label in Vega.

We'd like to see Vega be able to pull codes from the LMS along with their label.

  2. Clicking on All Menu to get to All Links, displays an unattractive view with a big block of dark screen. Is it possible to get rid of this block of dark screen or make it visually more appealing.

  3. There currently isn't a format option of magazine to limit by. E-magazine is an option, but regular magazine isn't. I see serial, but when I used that filter the physical magazines didn't come up.

  4. When a showcase is opened and it is sorted by title 'The' is not excluded. For example, The Gatsby would be under T when we think it should be under G.

  5. On the Holds tab, it lists how many holds you have, but not how many have arrived. This would allow patrons who have a lot of items on hold to know exactly how many to expect at pick up.

  6. The 505$t subfield should be included in the title search.

Here is an example of a situation where that is valuable. If a library user is searching for Kurt Vonnegut's "Cat's Cradle" and uses the Title search, they will only find the actual work "Cat's Cradle". However, this book is also contained in short story compilations. They will miss this short story compilation which may better suit their reading needs.

  7. Currently Vega displays the series information using the 490 field from the MARC record on certain titles which can cause confusion considering that the 800/830 fields can provide a better, more complete description for the series. For example, attached are screenshots from the PAC of two different versions of Spy Camp where one is the novel version and the other is the graphic novel, which is clear there. However, due to the 800/830 field not being used for the series in Vega, and the 490 field being the same for each (since the displayed series on both items is the…

  8. Can we add a sort option to the related resources?

Ideally after selected "related resources" we would like to see the facets - but if there are no facets, can we add the same sort drop down options to this section that we see after we perform a basic search?

Discovery is a good thing - but seeing thousands of titles with no way to discover those titles is frustrating for everyone.

  9. We'd like Vega to sort the volumes in a serial holdings display with the latest issues at the top for easy patron access.

For example, we have People magazine, with hundreds of items in our holdings. With the PAC display, the lastest issues are listed at the top, descending from there by date, so patrons can easily see what the latest issue is that we have and can quickly place a hold (see attached file "pac-request-list" screenshot). Vega seems to sort oldest-to-newest, so the user will have to scroll all the way to the bottom of the list to find…

  10. It would be helpful for patrons to be able to refine Showcase results by selecting facets as in the advanced search (e.g., to filter by availability, location, format, etc.).

  11. We've always used static image collages that mimic Vega's showcase carousels on our Vega Discover homepages. This approach helps us maintain a consistent visual style, especially when cover jackets occasionally appear that don’t match the look and feel we want to present in our catalog. Ideally, we’d love a way to feature specific titles in carousels—with the ability for them to drop off automatically once they're no longer relevant—while still ensuring the layout stays cohesive. Below is an example of one of our static image panels. Allow us to "favorite" titles in our lists somehow through Vega Discover or within…

  12. This is a problem that impacts AACR2 records, including a significant quantity of e-resources, government and vendor supplied bibliographic records>

Punctuation between subfields is treated as part of the subfield itself, causing irregularities in the display of several fields.

The way Vega removes the $h [GMD] from the MARC 245 field, and $b is present, the ISBD punctuation is also removed. {a [h] : b} becomes {a b}, some examples {a [h] / c} becomes {a } the : or / following the $h is added to the Genre field

According to ISBD rules the colon preceding the additional title…

  13. When looking at the customer account view, the holds list is only showing the holds pickup location and is missing the holds pickup area. We would like to include the pickup area to be listed so that the customer will know where to pick up the item.

  14. We came across situations where incomplete/unauthorized subject headings (see attached) from suppressed OverDrive API-sourced records are appearing as Topics in the record for the print version of the same title, even when it isn't rolling up with our ILS-sourced econtent record for the same title (see attached). We were told that even though we have our own ILS record for the title with those subject headings removed, and the API record that has those subject headings is suppressed, the content from that suppressed API record is still being passed through to Vega, and it is connected to the print record…

  15. Showcases can only be sorted chronologically by publication date or alphabetically by title. We'd like to have 'random' as an option, so that the showcase would be sorted randomly each time the page / showcase loads.

  16. In a consortium environment the admin staff will often have to make changes to every library in its system. Having the option to view all the libraries in one page instead of 10 at a time. The addition of having the option to "open in a new tab" when right-clicking the Edit button under actions would be helpful as well to keep organized as the current system of going back to the Library Defaults page can sometimes cause confusion when navigating back to the next library.

  18. When there are physical copies of the title available, the shelf location appears on the results page. However, if there are no physical copies on the shelf at any location, that shelf location is hidden and the user must click into a location in order to see the shelf location. It is inconvenient to have that information hidden on the front page.

  19. For titles with both a $a title and a $b subtitle. If the $a is an exact match for a search query that title should also be considered an exact match and boosted in the same way to the top of the search results.

When searching a word/phrase, results with an exact match of the search term(s) in the title of a search result should appear higher in search results than those with a partial match in the title due to 'stemming'. Example: Staff wrote in that they were searching for the book "Resolute" by Benjamin Hall and only the…

  20. Have the options to reset PINs via text message. Patrons without an email address in their record get an error message that an email couldn't be sent. There are a lot of patrons who do not like to give out their email, so having the reset link send via text would be useful.
