An error occurred while saving the comment Vanessa Schwegman commentedWe've received a large number of comments about the inability to see remaining renewals, but one of our patrons in particular has given us great feedback about why this feature is so useful and how they use it:
"I'm not someone who complains every time something changes, but these new changes are interfering with the way I usually use my account. Most importantly is that I can no longer sort my checkouts list by number of renewals. The only options are by due date and by title. I have sorted my checkouts by number of renewals almost every time I've ever looked at the list. I don't care when the due date is, I care how many renewals are left on an item. When deciding a new book to start from my stack, I look at which one has 0 renewals left so I can make sure to get it read before it has to go back. The due date isn't really relevant if there are renewals left."

An error occurred while saving the comment Vanessa Schwegman commentedOur catalogers agree wholeheartedly with this suggestion, and I found this request because we were about to add it ourselves.
Our cataloging team gave me the following information that I'll share:
"If you can only persuade Vega to show three additional tags, I think that the 500, 520, and 700 tags are the most important.
500 - general notes (most important as varied information is placed in 500 field, including sequel notes, publishing histories, oddity notes, etc.)
501 - with note (used when multiple titles are bound together as they sometimes are in Juvenile Early Readers)
505 - formatted contents (table of contents)
510 - citation/reference notes
511 - participant or performer note (especially important for AV)
520 - summary (already included?)
521 - target audience note (including MPAA ratings)
538 - system details note (system requirements, especially important for AV)
540 - terms governing use and reproduction note (legality notes)
546 - language note
586 - awards note (some readers may be seeking LAMBDA, Caldecott award winners, etc.)
590 - local note (not frequently used at MCPL but helpful to see when present)
700 - add entry -- personal name (contributors and their relators, VERY important)
710 - added entry -- corporate name (corporate contributors like production studios, etc., especially important for video games)
856 - electronic location and access (links, should display no matter what indicators are selected)Vanessa Schwegman supported this idea · -

An error occurred while saving the comment Vanessa Schwegman commentedThis functionality would be so useful and extremely helpful for patrons. While I personally find Bookmarks very useful as a holding tank for titles I want to explore later, other people use their lists differently. A sizable portion of patrons expect to use their lists as a finding aid for their next library trip. I believe this is especially true of teachers, students, parents, or anyone who will be visiting the library to find and check out a list of titles in one fell swoop.
It would be great to have a special "Find It" view that allows patrons to view and print a list with collection, shelf location, and item call numbers (either the first call number or or--even better--a list of all item call numbers per title that are on the shelf). The ability to sort this list would also be helpful.

An error occurred while saving the comment Vanessa Schwegman commentedOur Downtown location is big enough that someone answering the phone at the first floor Childen’s desk wouldn’t easily be able to go to the 2nd floor to pull the held item while they’re working at the desk. We’d prefer for the pulling of held items to be accomplished all at once via Holds to Action rather than on-demand given the various locations of staff who might end up taking the patron request.
Nearby library staff can still immediately initiate the process of moving the held item even if it does appear on Holds to Action so it would be possible to have the best of both worlds.

This "suitable editions" message is really confusing to patrons. We'd love to edit this message to offer a more obvious error reason that is self-explanatory (as opposed to one that causes them to ask us and also confuse our staff). Hopefully, this message is not used in more than one context.
