Allow patrons to add or modify "username" field value
Patrons currently lack the ability to add or modify the "username" field value (Polaris Registration field with Polaris) in Vega Discover. Historically, patrons had this capability, but after updating to Vega Discover, we disabled it due to its non-editable nature. However, due to significant feedback from patrons, we have re-enabled this feature. Please note that enabling it now requires manual IT intervention through SQL adjustments. Once we transition to a hosted environment, this manual adjustment will no longer be feasible. Therefore, it's crucial for patron access to our catalog, public machines, and express check that this functionality remains intact.

Patrons generally don't have their library card barcode numbers handy most of the time. Usernames are more often how they access their information and place holds in our system. Anything that impedes the use of this feature is a detriment to good patron service.

Extremely critical for customer's to be able to access their account in a way that suits them best. Will help staff help customers as they currently do.

We will get questions about why customers can no longer make a username. Please work to add this functionality.

Vega needs to let users set and update their logon username. I tried using the Nickname thinking that is how you would do it, but it does not work.
I had to do it in the PowerPAC. -

Removing a feature that patrons rely on can lead to frustration for both patrons and staff. Staff may need to address an influx of questions or complaints, taking time away from other important tasks.

I also only use my "username" to log into my account, and I know quite a few of our patrons only use this, also. We have been pushing this feature for many years, so our patrons are going to be very upset to no longer have access to this.

As somebody who also only logs into her account using a username, having that removed would actually probably stop me from logging into my account. Having to find my library card and retrieve my barcode instead of just quickly logging in using a username is a big hindrance.

Approximately 60,000 patrons currently use usernames in our system. The absence of this feature in Vega Discover restricts the online account flexibility to which these patrons have grown accustomed.

At NYPL we have roughly 1.2 million patrons with a username (alternative id) value in their Sierra patron records. Username provides patrons with easy access to their accounts in lieu of having to remember or store their barcodes elsewhere.
As we finalize our transition away from our legacy WebPAC catalog, its critical that we have a means for patrons to create and use usernames for account access in Vega Discover. -

This is for sure a must have! A user can login to Vega with a username, but unless they set a username in PowerPAC or via API registration, Vega does not offer a Username at all...
Note: This is not to be confused with "Nickname" in Vega... they are not the same.
