Viewing vs Modifying Authority Records
Frontline staff currently have an alert to click through when they view an Authority record. Could there be separated permission levels to allow staff to View an Authority Record without clicking through the pop-up, vs Modifying these records?

Add Custom Data Fields to Item Records
Patron records have 5 UDFs and 10 Custom Data Fields – item records have none of these. As a result, many libraries end up doing some weird stuff with the Name of Piece and Temporary Shelf Location. This idea would add 10 or so custom item record fields that libraries can choose how they would like to use.
Ideally, fields would be capable of multiple data types including freetext, Boolean, date, or numeric. In a perfect world, it could also support a drop down list like the UDFs! The fields would also be searchable in the find tool, just like…

Patron last name display in Leap
Currently, customers' first, middle and last names display identically in Leap patron accounts. This can make identifying the last name difficult which impacts staff ability to properly address customers and to accurately retrieve holds for customers with more than 1 last name. We propose bolding or in some other way making more distinctive in the patron account header any values in coming from the last name field in patron registration. Currently, we often have to click into patron registration in order to determine which name(s) are actually in the last name field when retrieving holds, etc. Making this change would…

Process to Delete Bulk Change Reports
Currently deleting older Import Reports and Bulk Change Reports is manual and can be very time consuming. Our consortium has generated a lot over time, and even once we get through the backlog it would be onerous to keep up with regular activity. It would be handy if there was a process that could run on the back-end deleting these, so managing a backlog doesn't need to be a concern.
I picture the process being optional, and deleting the reports based on age (older than X number of weeks/months/years). The process would run overnight, and would ideally be built to…

Remove Branch Requirement from Patron Bulk Change
Allow bulk change to all fields in the bulk change workform when the record set contains patrons from more than one registered branch. Currently, the system requires that a single registration branch must be applied to the patron records before changing the patron code and/or the library assigned blocks. These values are set at the branch level; however, most libraries use consistent patron codes and blocks across branches.
This was previously submitted in the old enhancement process:
"Bulk changing a patron code requires the selection of a registered branch. We request that this requirement be suppressed if all branches can…

Prevent Modification Date Setting on New Bib Records
I realized recently that all our bibliographic records have the Modification Date populated, even new records. It turns out that the process of creating the record will update the Modification Date due to an aspect of the process. This doesn't seem part of the intended design, so it would make sense to correct the process to stop adding a Modification Date entry.
Idea Value
This may cause confusion for staff working with bib records, and in general it's not good from a record metadata quality perspective to have misleading modification details. It can be filtered around in queries (the modifier…19 votes -
Stacked Sorting
We would like the ability to do stacked sorting in searches and record sets. This would allow the user to sort by one aspect and then another with it stacked (eg. sorting by pub date and then call number, so you see items within a call number in pub date order). In both searches and record sets, it only seems to sort by the current choice, meaning the way it's sorted within that one type is random (or alphabetical by title, which isn’t always the most useful).

Ability to view Bib circulations (Statistics) by year complete history, rather than just YTD & Previous Year
Being able to see a more complete circulation statistics for the lifetime of a title gives selection staff a more complete picture of the use of a title, in order to make better decisions about purchasing future titles by an author or in a series.

Additional dynamic filter options in Simply Reports
In Simply Reports, some filter menus do not populate options until a library/branch is chosen (i.e. Shelf Location, Stat Code, Statistical Class). This is helpful for consortia because the menus only become populated with the options available at each selected branch(es), keeping the options to a manageable size.
We would like to see this dynamic menu functionality applied to the Collection, Material Type, and Patron Code filters as well.
Currently, our consortium has 55 Material Types, 57 Patron Codes, and 284 Collections to choose from in these menus, which becomes quite overwhelming for users and involves A LOT of tedious…

Import Profile Rention Tag - 020 shoudn't duplicate
When using import profiles for EDI ordering you must add the "retain 020" field in order for the 020 to overlay onto an existing bib record when ordering additional copies. This is annoying because each time you reorder, another 020 line gets stamped into the bib - adding more lines for Cataloging staff to delete when the item comes in.
If you remove the "retain 020 tag" no more duplicate 020s get stamped onto the bib, but also any new-to-the-bib 020 also does not get added. This is a problem especially with AV, where some vendors use a 020 tag…

Change $ amount in POLI
At times our vendors send us a substitution for the item we ordered. It would be helpful to be able to change the dollar amount in the POLI when this happens so that the encumbered funds accurately reflect what is on order.

Include library mailing address on In-Transit Slip
When libraries within our consortium borrow and lend items among each other, they send those items through the mail. Currently, they have to manually look up each other's mailing addresses (many times by Googling which isn't always accurate). It would save staff time and reduce errors if a library's mailing address could be included on the In-Transit Slips.
This would also allow for libraries to ensure the requesting library has their 'preferred' mailing address if an item needs to be returned to a location other than the owning library. For example, if a Main Library processes holds for its smaller…

Have a holds notification at checkout tell what library the items are being held at.
Have a holds notification at checkout tell what library the item, or items, are being held at.
Scenario: A patron who is not our patron is visiting our library and has holds on our holds shelf. They come to the desk with books to checkout. The notification that we get now is something like "patron has 3 holds at a library other than their home library of Potsdam" This does not signal to me to check my shelf, it could be any library. In the test LEAP we had, it would tell me "patron has 2 books held in Waddington…

Allow offline Leap to show the patron name when their card is scanned
Please make it possible for offline Leap to display the patron name when their barcode is scanned for an offline checkout. This is available in toolbar offline, and I'm sure it would be tricky to configure, since Leap is browser-based, but we just used Leap offline for the first time during our latest upgrade, and the biggest comment I've received is the lack of the patron name during checkout.

Add series info when linking
Currently, if I want to add series information for a book in the item record when I link it, I would need to put it in the volume field. It'd be nice if there was an easy way to indicate if a book is part of a series and where it falls in the series without it creating a super long call number. Series info isn't standardized when it comes from publishers and isn't always included in the MARC record. This does make a difference for my patrons to know if a book is part of a series and would…

More Robust Item Record Change History
It would be very helpful to have a more robust item record history. It appears that only the last 12 months of item history is available. It would be great if Polaris would:
A) keep the history of changes in the item record forever
B) improve the data that is stored and presented to staff, for example, so we could see what exactly was edited on 7-26-23 in the screenshot attached. Perhaps by clicking on the entry and having the information pop up.17 votes -
Add visible barcodes to OPAC records
As a library with a lot of historical serials, it would be very helpful to have barcodes visible in the OPAC so if I want to look at a serial issue that's a troublemaker in the catalog, I don't have to scroll through sometimes hundreds of issues in the client/LEAP to find the one I wanted to investigate.

A note field that pops up at check out and check in
We need a note field in the item record that pops up as a warning box at check out and check in for notes that staff and patron may need to act on before checking out and in. Notes such as "Patron needs to sign a hold harmless form." Or the price of this piece of the kit is $250.00. Or "Item must be returned to this library." Staff should be able to close the window once they have read it.
17 votesUpdating this to under review. We have plans to add an "alert note" on patron records but need to evaluate on items. I accidently updated the wrong idea (between the two).

Change a 'Lost' status to 'Withdrawn' status (and eventually deleted) and still retain the bill on a patron's account
Do this by creating a record set and using 'Ad Hoc Bulk Change' or 'Bulk Change' to change the circulation status from 'Lost' to 'Withdrawn', retaining the bill and item information on the patron's account.

Password Reset PAPI Call
Currently we have to send patrons from our websites to the PAC if they need to reset their passwords. It would be great if there was an API call for this, as it's disruptive to the patron experience to have to send them to another site.
The suggested functionality would reflect the PAC experience: once they enter a barcode, a password reset email would be sent to the email address on the account.
