Allow us to change Circ Status to Withdrawn without checking the item in first.
It can be confusing when staff look at the history for an item and it says it was Checked in/Available and then it shows it as Withdrawn. This happens when we are preparing bills and we need to withdraw an item with the Circulation Status of Lost/Damaged/Replacement cost before we can bill the other library. It would be nice to open the Item Record for the specific item and declare it Withdrawn. I would suggest that a BIG RED BOX pop up and say "YOU ARE GETTING READY TO DECLARE THIS ITEM WITHDRAWN. IS THIS WHAT YOU WANT TO DO?"
Then have a box that says WITHDRAW and one that says CANCEL. This way the history will indicate that the Circulation Status went directly from Lost/Damaged/Replacement copy to Withdrawn.

Relatedly, it would be nice to be able to see all circ statuses without needing to make an item available or mark it in repair. Needing to mark an item being repaired, for example, to see in process or being acquired as statuses is an unnecessary step.

To Gabrielle's question, no, that process is a separate workflow. An item being declared Lost and Withdrawn are different.
For example, if an item appears on a weeding list but the staff can't find it, why should staff need to check-in the item to either mark as MISSING or Withdrawn?
If an item, for example, is on the shelf but has a ripped cover or missing DVD. Staff will need to mark the item as Withdrawn, not Lost or MISSING. Having to record a check-in first is an added workflow step. -

Yes, please! I'll say the same should be true for Transit Item that might have gone missing... those being locked in Transit status is genuinely problematic from an item history perspective... our consortium would prefer to transition Long Transit Items to Missing before moving them to Withdrawn, so the Lost Item Transition doesn't really suit our purposes. I wouldn't be opposed to this having it's own permission too...

Gabrielle, our consortium does have the Lost Item Transition in place also - but staff would like to be able to do it 'ad hoc' as well, prior to the transition, as needed.

Hi Susan,
Polaris has the lost item transition process that would automatically transition lost items to Withdrawn after a set amount of time being lost and not require staff to check them in first. Does that process not work for your workflows?
Here is the help article about it for reference: https://documentation.iii.com/polaris/8.0/Default.htm#PolarisStaffHelp/Patron_Services_Admin/PDPitems/Set%20up%20lost%20item%20transition%20to%20missing%20or%20withdrawn.htm?
