  1. Introduce an “Author” sort and filter option for items in the Account Portal Overview, specifically for:
    • Current checkouts
    • Active holds
    • Reading history
This would allow patrons to group and manage their library items more intuitively, especially when they manage multiple accounts and items.

  2. Patron reading history is currently of limited value for serials, like magazines and newspapers, because only the title and date checked out is recorded. Without edition level information e.g., volume, or issue number, patrons cannot reliably identify:
    • Which specific magazine issue they have read
    • How their reading history relates to citations, or research
This reduces the usefulness of reading history for researchers, students, and magazine readers alike.

  3. When viewing checkouts in Account Portal, the patron name appears next to every checkout. I know this is groundwork for the yet to release Account Linking function but please do not show this when there are no linked accounts. Patrons have already reported that this is not helpful.

  4. The current "address" information in the Account Portal consists of the Street 1 field from Polaris on the top line and the City, State, and ZIP fields grouped on the second line. Our library uses Street 2 for apartment numbers and would like the option to display Street 2 in account portal so that patrons don't think part of their address is missing from our records.

  5. Currently, if a suppressed bib is included in a showcase, it displays but doesn't include details and is not clickable. It shows the default colour block with title instead of the cover image and does not link to more information. Additionally, if the showcase is embedded outside of Vega, the titles display this way and are clickable but lead to a 404 error.

This can be resolved by removing the title from the showcase but that requires someone to notice and report the issue and then for the showcase list to be updated manually. This workflow also doesn't allow for…

  6. Could the hold position be refined so that a patron from Library A can see their position in line specifically for their home library’s copies? Leap already supports this—when the holds queue is filtered by the patron’s library, it correctly shows the local position.

For example, The Correspondent currently has 426 holds across the consortium. When I place a hold, Vega shows my position as No. 427 (see screenshot 1). However, my home library has several copies, and in Leap my local position is No. 11 (see screenshot 2).

It would be much clearer for patrons if Vega displayed their…

  7. After being on Vega Discover for awhile, we are running into an issue with our holds queues. We understand how the algorithm works when selecting "Request Any Edition", and it makes sense in that moment, but we have a few problems that have come up.

On-order records aren't rolling up because there are slight differences in the metadata. Holds start accruing on one of these records before we are able to fix the metadata. Additional copies may not be ordered in that format (i.e. it's a softcover and most libraries tend to order the hardcover, or it was a deluxe…

  8. Currently our settings for patrons renewing their loans via Discover are overly simple--if the setting allows them to renew their items, you can choose yes or no to allow them to renew when their account is expiring during the renewed loan. If the renewal period could be limited to the expiry of the patron account, it would provide a good opportunity to remind patrons that they need to renew their account.

  9. This would ensure patrons can put holds on what they can actually checkout, by determiners like their patron type, checkout location and the item’s type. This would reduce frustration, failed requests, and staff intervention. For example, our corporate library collection can only be borrowed by patrons with a Corporate ptype. Currently when a title exists in both the Corporate and general collections and is available to borrow in the general collection, patrons retrieve an “unrequestable” message from Vega if they select to "Request any edition". This occurs correctly for patrons without the required Corporate ptype when they attempt to place…

  10. Hello,

We would like to have additional Availability options for our descriptions. Currently it is a binary available/unavailable, but we would like an On-Order option for materials that are on-order.

    Thanks,

    Aaron

  11. In many cases, the character spacing we use when cataloging in Korean is not the same as the character spacing someone searching in Korean will use, even though the meaning is the same in these cases despite the differences in spacing. The spacing we use when cataloging is dictated by Library of Congress rules, however, a Korean speaker won't know those rules and will type the search in the way that makes sense to them.

For example, 한 권 (with a space) and 한권 (without a space) mean the same thing, and 외워 봤니 (with a space) and 외워봤니 (without…

  13. Please make it so that the timeout period for kiosks can be applied only when a patron has logged into their account. While there might be a need to end a session if a patron has only done a search for something, it seems much more important to make sure a patron's account is logged out in a timely manner if they've forgotten to that themselves.

  14. Please provide an Ask Us feature similar to the one in the classic catalogue. Some libraries do have a contact email address listed in the library info dropdown, but others don't, and our patrons use the Ask Us feature regularly.

  15. Please allow more options for OAI-PMH connections. I was told that currently, only recollect is an option. I was trying to connect a repository that uses Islandora at the moment, but will be switching to ContentDM in 2026. I would love for both Islandora and ContentDM to be available for OAI-PMH so I can get some local historical collections into our library catalogue.

  16. Currently, the behind-the-scenes view of the homepage tells you how many scheduled and unscheduled showcase blocks you have, but not which are which or what their schedules are until you go into the preview. This information would be so useful to have at a glance to help with managing and planning.

There is room next to the purple type labels for additional useful labels. I'd also stretch out the space allocated for the block titles to make them easier to read.

See my images for mockups of potential information that could be useful for big-picture managing a homepage without clicking…

  17. Right now, using the 'create from ILS list' feature to create a showcase from a record set creates a showcase with every record that is CURRENTLY in the record set. However, if records are later added or removed from the record set, they are not added/removed from the showcase. This means that the staff member often has to do the same work in two places.

If this change can't be made anytime soon, documentation should at least be updated to reflect that the 'create from ILS list' feature is taking a snapshot, not permanently linking a showcase to a record…

  19. For rollups Vega defaults to the most recent edition which is often a paperback which has less robust information, as we do very minimal cataloging on those. There is no synopsis on the detailed page. In the old catalog, having no summary for a paperback wasn't a huge deal because the annotations gave you enough information. But in Vega, you get nothing at all unless you click on the ebook.

When there is no 520 data in the most recent edition of a format can we display the summary from Syndetics instead?

  20. When there is a volume field in the item record, show all editions automatically, so that patrons can easily view all options without taking additional steps.

Right now, when patrons first view the Vega record, they must click "Find a Specific Edition," and then the down arrow, in order to see all editions held in the collection.
