  1. Our consortium just transitioned from Sierra to Polaris. When our item records were brought over, volume information was included in the volume field of an item record. Because no serial holdings information transferred from Sierra to Polaris, we have been recreating our Serial Holdings Records. When we generate items from the SHR, the issue information (chronology and/or enumeration) appears in a separated designation field on the record, which makes the display look terrible. An option to make the chronology/enumeration information appear in the item record's volume field instead of in a separate designation field is absolutely necessary for us to…

  2. In Serial Holdings Records, an option not to include parentheses around the date (chronology) when no enumeration pattern is being used would be helpful.

  3. Currently you can search hold requests by pickup location.
Libraries would also like to search the hold requests by pickup areas.

  4. For our system, having both an expiration date and an address check date is redundant, and staff constantly fail to update the address check date to match the expiration date. I'd like to have the ability to suppress the address check date as well as other fields, such as street address lines 1 and 2.

  5. It would be nice for third party vendors and developers to have access to the Postal Code table via PAPI. Something similar to the OrganizationsGet method.

  6. The current method for changing a Polaris Staff Member's password is clunky and not ideal if part of a large library system. Additionally, all SA management is moving towards the web-based interface. It makes sense to incorporate staff password management into the SA web-based interface.

  8. We had a patron complaint that the email notices do not include magazine issue information, only the main title. The notices also do not include item barcodes, so there isn't any data to match against a specific issue. Could information from the Issue field in the item record be displayed in overdue notices?

  9. Currently, the notices for Current Checked Out Items allows for daily or weekly scheduling, but it would be handy to have the ability to set this at a longer time frame such as monthly, quarterly or by semester as most of our materials check out for much longer periods of time (16 weeks or longer generally), and some users find the weekly reminders tedious.

Either the option to set the automated notices to a longer time period, or the ability for patrons to choose a longer reminder period (opt in to weekly, monthly, etc notice) would be very helpful.

  10. Our Access Services staff use the Reader Services tab and the Note field to list patron details to assist with readers advisory for elderly and homebound patrons.

They use the Preferences options to some degree, but have noticed a character limit in the Note field, which requires them to use abbreviations to fit their details. They asked: "Is there a way for Polaris to increase the character limit of the Note field in the reader services tab? Is there a way to increase the viewable space as well?"

Character limit may be around 250 or so, so they are abbreviating…

  12. Currently, the only option for importing a file with bibliographic data into a record set in Leap is by ISBN. It would be helpful for staff to have the option to be able to use UPC as well, as ISBN restricts this to just books and audiobooks. This leaves out DVDs and Blu-rays, as well as other non-book/audiobook material such as a Library of Things.

  13. When we are done using a routed periodical we have no way of checking in the issue for deletion. We don't assign a barcode to these issues so it will not allow a check in. We need ability to either delete a periodical in a Routed status or a quick way to un-route to then allow us to delete.

Right now staff are forced into the item record and assign a barcode like "1", save record. Check in item. Then they can delete.

  14. Allow staff to customize the display of columns in the item record history, as they can in the display of search results. For example, our staff have pointed out that for each action the item's assigned branch displays prominently, but it is less relevant that the "location" (i.e., the branch where the history action took place). They would find it much clearer and easier to use if they could control the order of those columns, and set it as Date / Location / User/WKS / Status / Action / Assigned Branch.

  15. Some locations need to apply both a distributed tax and a header tax to invoices (in Canada a PST and a GST). Currently, Polaris adds the percentage from the distributed tax to the header tax, so the total is higher than it should be. Libraries can work around this by reducing the header amount by the percentage of the distributed amount, but this is a fiddly process and sometimes results in rounding errors.

We would like to see Polaris parse the calculation of the header tax charge, so it no longer includes the distributed tax amount. Polaris should also round…

  16. Currently, Bulk Change allows staff to replace existing information in free-text fields, and add to the beginning or end of the field in some cases. However, existing text cannot be edited.

For example, if a group of item records need the volume numbering changed from “v.” to “vol.,” Bulk Change cannot update all the items if they have different volume numbers. Staff have to replace “v. 1” with “vol. 1,” then do all the v. 2s, then v. 3s, and so on. Similarly, if a library discovers that some of its records have incorrect diacritics, each word must be changed…

  17. Sierra includes the ability export records directly from OCLC into Sierra using the OCLC gateway. This allows librarians to quickly make edits in OCLC using macros, and export those records to Sierra without actually affecting the master record in OCLC. Having this feature in Leap would be great.

  18. Acquisitions staff frequently need to bulk change item records for a specific order. This is commonly done for orders that were placed manually instead of using EDI or if Polaris created item records using the wrong template. In the Client, it can efficiently be done as an ad hoc bulk change by opening the list of items that are linked to a PO or invoice. The ad hoc bulk change button should be added to the tab that contains the list of item records linked to the PO and Invoice in Leap in order to make this process more efficient.…

  20. This currently defaults to "Display," and displays with that status in PAC. Display is a non-circing status that is actually used for items in our special collections, so we can't rename it to something like "In Repair."

If system admin gave an option to set a default status when "Mark Unavailable" is selected from Missing Part Check In, it would streamline workflows as we wouldn't have to go back and change the status in the item record.
