  1. When looking at the Serial Check in card, it would be helpful to have some sort of indication that a note has been added to a specific issue.

  2. Each library often has several institutional library cards and our consortium also has institutional cards to use for our statewide ILL system. It would be nice if there was a way when creating and managing institution cards to be able to block them from having fines (overdues, specifically) applied to them as these cards would only be used by the library and our consortium policy does ask us to not waive other library's fines.

  3. Currently, if I want to add series information for a book in the item record when I link it, I would need to put it in the volume field. It'd be nice if there was an easy way to indicate if a book is part of a series and where it falls in the series without it creating a super long call number. Series info isn't standardized when it comes from publishers and isn't always included in the MARC record. This does make a difference for my patrons to know if a book is part of a series and would…

  4. Adding the $2 validation opens the door to using so many controlled thesauri, like Spanish headings via Queens and National Library of Spain, OLAC's video game headings, Homosaurus' headings, and many more that would make searching easier for customers and staff by providing access points that mimic how they talk about their interests and information needs.

It would be a step closer towards inclusion by using various existing vocabularies that institutions want to use, unlock more potential of the ILS, as well as improve authority maintenance overall.

  5. It seems unnecessary to force the Polaris Username field to begin with a letter. We would love for the Username field to have the ability to begin with any character.

  6. Although there are current options for purging patron IDs from circ transactions, and deleting account transactions, there are some gaps with removing PII (personally identifiable information) we'd like to see addressed.

We'd like the option to purge patron IDs from non-circ transactions (incl. patron account history and record history). We'd also like the option to manage patron details on any other tables where history may be maintained after a patron record is deleted (e.g. Notification History, DeletedPatrons, DeletedPatronAccounts, kwmssg, and offline and InnReach process tables). It would also be ideal to have a plan for removing any CNV tables (from…

  7. Currently, if I am checking a hold to a patron, there is a pop-up letting me know there are holds to check out. I would like that to not pop-up if the barcode I have scanned is one of the holds I am currently checking out. It is fine if it's not one of the holds, or the hold is at another location, but it is frustrating when I already have the holds in front of me.

  8. Could we have it so the close button within the Patron Registration follows you as you scroll down like the "Save", "Renew", etc do? I often find myself nowhere near the top when I am done with a customer account and have to navigate all the way back up just to close the record. I could see this also being useful in Bib records

  9. If staff attempt to check out an item with an "unexpected" status, such as Withdrawn, Unavailable, or Missing the checkout fails, with an error message "unexpected item status." Staff must check the item in to change its status to Available, and then check it out. This breaks the flow of the checkout transactions and causes a delay for the patron. It would be very helpful if we could specify in System Administration which statuses cause a complete failure of the checkout (the current rule for all of these statuses), which cause a warning message that staff can override, and which…

  10. A recent change to PAPI allows for the retrieval of, and adding to, different types of records sets, including Patrons, Bibs, and Items. Adding to Patron and Bib records sets is straight forward because there are existing endpoints within PAPI that return BibRecordID and PatronRecordID numbers. This isn't the case with Item record sets because there a currently no endpoints that provide an item's RecordID. This enhancement would add the ItemRecordID to each row in the BibHoldingsGet response.

  11. The Language field was added to Polaris in 7.4 (I believe). The only way to update the Language field is to manually update each item record manually. As you can imagine, that is very time-consuming. It would be ideal if our Collection Management department could pull the appropriate item records into a record set and then do a batch update of the Language field.

  12. For larger library systems that need to continually create new staff members, being able to access the APIs would be a big time saver. That would allow, among other things, to automate that task.

  13. Our ILL clerk would like to be able to see the due date for ILLs from the request manager, so she can make sure that the dates have been added correctly to these items. She currently has to go into each item individually to make sure they were correct.

  14. Our libraries in our consortium are frustrated when items from other libraries arrive to fill holds for their patrons and their own copy is sitting on their shelves, making the process look rather inefficient.

What I think might solve this is implementing SirsiDynix's "Trap hold with first item received" feature. Rather than try to explain it myself, I've quoted it from their website below:

"Using the "Trap hold with first item received at pickup library" feature, the system can be configured to allow filling a library user's hold with the first holdable copy of an item received at the pickup…

  15. When doing clean up work we run into instances where we are not able to delete something like shelf locations because it is assigned to records that are in a deleted state. While we know we can just delete the records 1 more time, some of these records are tied to other things we track and would prefer to keep them in the system.

Currently we bulk change them at the server level but would like a way to be able to do this within the ILS.

  16. In our previous ILS, we had the ability for renewals to have a different renewal length compared to check out length. For example- books checked out for 28 days but renewals were 14 days.

  17. It would be really helpful for fixing rollups if you could pick records to compare directly from the Find Tool instead of opening one record and then running a search again to find records to compare!

  18. When entering new accounts in to LEAP, we enter the patron zip code and the city is automatically filled out. At Phoenix libraries, if the city is not Phoenix, we have to remember to change the patron code to Maricopa and the expiration date to only one year. Could these 2 fields also be automatically filled out by the zip code information. It would save a lot of jumping from the top of the registration form to the bottom and back...and could save mistakes when we have a LOT of outreach library card forms to enter.

  19. We have some serials that only have one level of enumeration, that resets annually (i.e. no. 1 is published in January and no. 12 is published in December and there is no volume number). It would be nice to have option to set the number of units and the continuity at this level.

  20. Currently there is no mechanism to limit the number of active Borrower by Mail requests a patron can have. It would be beneficial for all libraries to be able to limit the number of active BBM requests a patron can have in Polaris.
