  1. We need a note field in the item record that pops up as a warning box at check out and check in for notes that staff and patron may need to act on before checking out and in. Notes such as "Patron needs to sign a hold harmless form." Or the price of this piece of the kit is $250.00. Or "Item must be returned to this library." Staff should be able to close the window once they have read it.

  2. Currently, the new 7.4 item language field is using the same Languages table used in patron registration. For patron records, the language preference field displays in their account in PowerPAC. Patrons use this field to select their preferred notification language.

If a library wants to add a new language to the Languages table, it will be added as an option for both item records and patron accounts. This is problematic, because many libraries purchase materials in far more languages than they offer notices in. If a library adds additional language options to this table, they risk that patrons will select…

  3. Current functionality says "If the item is held at your library (the pickup branch is the same as your log-in branch), and you change the pickup branch, the hold will automatically change from Held to Shipped."

We would like this to function the same as if the item is not at your location and mark the item so it appears on the holds to transfer list. The staff will then scan the item to mark it as shipped. We have staff that work at different service points no where near our holds shelves and it would be convenient if they…

  5. We have a number of custom reports in the Polaris Staff Client that need to be accessible to our Circulation Staff in Leap. Ideally all Polaris canned reports should also be available to all staff in Leap. One custom report we use is for patrons who don't have an email address. Their notification option is set to mailing address. However, if they have a hold we call them instead of sending the hold notice by mail. The custom report is a quick way to find the patrons that we need to call. Staff have to have access to both Polaris…

Just to set expectations, our strategy at this time is for users to access reports through the SSRS portal. As Eleanor mentioned in her comment, we are adding customizable menu options to Leap in 7.5 with the intent that they be used to link users to the reporting interface.

  6. Do this by creating a record set and using 'Ad Hoc Bulk Change' or 'Bulk Change' to change the circulation status from 'Lost' to 'Withdrawn', retaining the bill and item information on the patron's account.

  7. Our librarians make regular use the staff client's bibliographic option to sort by "most popular" when searching by author, particularly when supporting the needs of children and families. Please provide sort by options in Leap to match those available in the staff client.

  8. As a multi-branch system that floats some of our collections, we desperately need a way to set limits on the number of copies on shelf without giving up our ability to set limits on overall floating collection size. Currently in Polaris you must choose one limit or the other. Being able to spread copies throughout our system makes them more available for discovery and increases circulation.

  9. Frontline staff currently have an alert to click through when they view an Authority record. Could there be separated permission levels to allow staff to View an Authority Record without clicking through the pop-up, vs Modifying these records?

  10. Currently, staff modifications to patron registration including card renewal do not update the Patron Last Activity Date (LAD). As more libraries move towards long or no expiration periods, LAD becomes even more important for patron database maintenance. We have seen cases in which patrons renew their card without any additional activity resulting in their record being purged during cleanup. Including renewal and/or extending the card expiration period in LAD will better allow libraries to track patron engagement.

  11. We are interested in going paperless and no longer using registration cards but we would still like to collect patron signatures. Can Leap/Polaris allow for electronic signature collection?

  12. Have a reminder for patrons via TXT, email, telephony, mail-whatever their preference is, to remind them about their upcoming address check. Many patrons do not bring something with their current address with them when they come to the library to grab a book. This could be helpful for both staff and the patrons.

  13. The Polaris Leap login screen consists of two text fields, a button, and a low resolution PNG floating upon an ocean of #CCCCCC. It is, in a word, boring. There are no easy customization options offered that allow a library to give it the look and feel that they want, save for one option that will change the colour of the menu bar. Now, granted, if you have a staff member with some web coding knowledge, they can modify the Leap CSS and replace some images to give things a spruce up. Five lines of code and a fresh image…

  14. Some libraries use tools like Deep Freeze (that discard any changes to previous work sessions) or manage settings so that browser caches are cleared when closed or when the user logs out. Since Leap Offline stores data transactions in the browser cache, anything that is not uploaded to the database will be lost in such occurrences.

  15. Picklist is great - unless you are a large location that needs to distribute the list among several staff and do not have devices for everyone. Currently in staff client, we can sort multiple columns - example, by Collection then by call number within collection, then hide unwanted columns, print and distribute pages among multiple staff. You can only sort 1x in Leap and then there is a lot of white space, etc. which results in paper waste. It would be great to have the ability to fine sort, hide columns and headers when printing Picklist. Without that, staff will…

  16. We would like the ability to match POLIs with on-order item templates on more data points, specifically shelf location, statistical code, and call number prefix. I expect that this means there would need to be extra fields to enter the POLI, and that would work out fine if that enabled the item records to be created accurately.

Our libraries use different shelf locations, statistical codes, and call number prefixes for items within the same collection. When placing an order, items are created from the on-order item templates, and only match on 3 data points: assigned branch, collection, and material type.…

  17. We would like to have to option for claims returned items to automatically go to Lost after a set time and adding bill to the patron.

    Idea Value
This would take out the manual process of chasing up items that have been put to claims returned/never had.

  18. Patron records have 5 UDFs and 10 Custom Data Fields – item records have none of these. As a result, many libraries end up doing some weird stuff with the Name of Piece and Temporary Shelf Location. This idea would add 10 or so custom item record fields that libraries can choose how they would like to use.

Ideally, fields would be capable of multiple data types including freetext, Boolean, date, or numeric. In a perfect world, it could also support a drop down list like the UDFs! The fields would also be searchable in the find tool, just like…

  19. Imagine the possibilities if we could automate the process of bulk changes to bib records as part of an import profile.

Other ILS systems offer robust manipulation of bib records upon import, but this is missing from Polaris.

By allowing bib bulk changes to be stored in templates, just like item bulk changes, we can streamline the process and save valuable time. Imagine having a set of predefined steps for importing bibs from specific sources or of certain record types. It would ensure consistency and accuracy, eliminating manual effort.

    1. Allow bib bulk changes to be stored in templates like item…

  20. Unless I'm doing something wrong, when I am in a PO and go into a PO LINE to check ISBN, discount or whatever, I hit save and go back and it takes me to the top of the PO. Some of my PO's are really big so I'd like to know how to just go back to the spot I was at before instead of the top.
