  1. In a load profile you can only use @ov_attach_insert with @ov_action of a, b, c, or e. However it is possible to do an a match and attach with any @ov_action if you use the @ov_priority function. It should be possible to use @ov_attach_insert in that situation as well.

I use @ov_attach_insert on all my match and attach loaders to insert a note field I use in all my records, but I can't use that in the case of @ov_priority loaders because I can't use @ov_attach_insert.

  2. We're looking to replicate the behavior in the attached picture from Polaris on our Sierra site.

Specifically, our goal is to show an override prompt to try to prevent a location from going under a specific number of copies for a title. We're aware of Float Determiner Rules as far as entire location codes, but we're interested in using the number of copies of a bib record to prevent the item from floating if doing so would put them under the threshold number of copies.

  4. Currently, only when you cancel a hold from either the Hold tab or the Hold queue do you get the option to generate a hold cancellation notice. When a defunct hold is cleared from the holdshelf (clear expired holds), we would like to see a prompt to send a hold cancellation notice(s), just as we do when cancelling holds outside of the clear holdshelf process. All those that get cleared could use the same “drop hold” message in the text of circulation notices (explaining your hold has been cancelled because it’s expired/hold pickup by date has passed). These would be…

  5. When a hold has been cleared or is defunct, the information Sierra provides integrated integrated systems (IMMS for our example) over API is not consistent In particular, when clear holds is run in Sierra. During clear holds, the item status either remains at ! On holdshelf or changes to another item status. When it remains as !, IMMS sees the hold is still active and does not instruct staff to clear the item from the hold shelf. Daily and weekly processes are needed to update the item records for IMMS to recognise the changes.

Can the clear hold function in…

  6. Our library has very generous allowances for both checkouts & holds on patron accounts. This can sometimes come into conflict with Sierra's seemingly arbitrary system limits. For example, when these items go unreturned & result in replacement charges, which then cannot be added because of the imposed limits. Like my waist can no longer accommodate 32" pants, Sierra cannot currently accommodate the lending policies taken advantage of by some of our more active borrowers.

I'm sure there are other examples where these limits can manifest, but attached is an example message recently seen by staff which reads:

  7. I currently have a need for a Locations Served group which can accommodate 1,245 location codes. The limit imposed by Admin Corner is 1,000 location codes, and per case #08077395, Support asserts that Sierra will not support more than 1,000 location codes per Locations Served (so it's not simply a limit of the Admin Corner interface).

Increasing this limit will potentially lead to a modest increase in memory consumption by any and all circulation processes which hold these Locations Served tables in memory, but do we really need to be concerned about Kilobytes of RAM in 2025? Other Sierra configuration…

  8. When users return the materials via self-check machines, we want an email receipt to be automatically sent to them. Unfortunately, Sierra does not currently support the AA element in the 10 Checkin Response. Some libraries purchased the Patron API feature to get it to work but if Sierra include the AA element, it will simplify the process.

  9. Currently Sierra permission 109, update uncataloged records, is tied to whether or not the bib record has a CDATE (no catalog date) field. It would be great if permission 109 could be customized by a library to be controlled by another option outside of just the presence of the CDATE field. For example, we use field 31 to control the level of cataloging of a record (including full MARC) and to suppress the bib. It would be helpful if we could tie the codes from that field to this permission. It's worth mentioning that permission 109 and the presence of…

  10. Sometimes the CAS login to Sierra fails. Either the page is inaccessible, or we see an LSE-OA-Error-2 from our use of OpenAthens authentication to Sierra. The only solution available is to us is to reboot the Sierra application server. This is inconvenient since staff have to log out of their activities.

It would be useful if there was an option in the Restart a Terminal section of Sierra to restart the CAS service. This would hopefully clear up the error and not require a server reboot.

  11. We can’t use this button because we don’t use print templates for our bills.
We would prefer them to look pretty with Print Templates instead of the plain text we currently have. To avoid staff confusion, it would be great if this we had the ability to disable/grey out this button.

  12. We recently started using NCIP authentication for our new ILL service. We learned after implementation that NCIP login is blocked for any of the reasons in the Patron Block Table. This makes sense when the block is for an expired card, or for fees over the threshold. This makes less sense when they have reached their maximum holds in Sierra.

What we're seeing is that patrons cannot log into the system at all when any of the block parameters are true. We would like to be able to enforce certain blocks but not others for account login.

    We can increase…

  14. Collection and circulation analytics would improve if we could import Create Lists item/bib search results into Decision Center.

If so, Decision Center could aggregate Create Lists results (searches based on authorities, orders, or hold/patron circulation behaviours) to provide circulation and collection statistics.

Our libraries would be satisfied for this import to display the fields that are in the “high”/ “low” circulation weeding reports.

We understand that the aggregated statistics in Decision Center are generated the night before.

  16. We have a floating collection and use Decision Center to manage our collection. We need to know what is on the shelf OR not on the shelf at multiple sites. To do this, we use excel pivot tables to manipulate the "low circulation weeding reports". I have attached the workflow and the result.

After pivoting the "low circulation weeding reports" (searching for items that have circulated less than 300 times in 1 month at multiple branches) our result includes everything on the shelf at multiple branches. The pivot table allows us to identify which titles are at a branch AND…

  17. One of our branches uses shielded RFID pads, and the software could hook in to their previous ILS and context switch the current RFID action (tag on, tag off, no change) depending on the active function screen by overlaying a screen over the ILS to track the toggling.

Can support for this functionality be offered for Sierra? I assume it would involve working with the RFID vendors to get it up and running.

The current workaround is to use Sierra macros to trigger the RFID function change, but this is reliant on staff remembering to press the keys which may…

  18. We have implemented SDA Context User functionality so staff will open Sierra using shared library login and then add their own login (permissions). We would hope faster way to change the user. At this time you must first remove previous user (Admin - Clear Permissions) and then add new user (Admin - Set Permissions). Staff suggested one function that would both Clear previous and Set new Permissions. E.g. Set Permission could remove the old user and then ask the new user. We set up macros for both functions so staff can use them instead of drop-down menu. However, I suppose…

  19. Hello Everyone,

We are currently using the GET /v6/bibs/search API to take advantage of the AWS search integration, which has been working well. However, we’ve encountered limitations in filtering the search results by Material Type, Collection, Language, and Location.

It would be highly beneficial if this API supported additional filtering parameters to narrow down results at the source. Relying on the client or webhook server to apply these filters adds complexity and can introduce delays in presenting results to the end user.

    Thank you.

  20. Each week staff go into Create Lists and repopulate a designated review file with current data from a system-generated list. Two examples of system-generated lists include the OVERDUE ITEMS and PURCHASE ALERTS files. It would be great if our site could schedule Sierra to identify a specific list number and replenish or refresh the contents of it with most current system file's data. This would make the task fully automated. It's important to our system to be able to designate which list or review file number to use for each system-generated file job, however. We are a consortium and our…
