Cascading Holds
Over a decade ago, III mentioned work being underway on "cascading holds" functionality. Meant for Millennium at the time, the feature seemed to disappear from their development plan due to staff transitions or some other reason, but I'd love to see it brought to fruition.
The feature would give patrons the ability to place a hold on a series (of books or a multi-disc DVD set) & receive the items sequentially), making the request process much more convenient for them & giving libraries the ability to more effectively manage hold fulfillment.
At the time, I was working in an environment that circulated multi-disc DVD sets as a single item, which in addition to the convenience of this approach, pretty much facilitated & anticipated the notion of "binge watching" an entire season of a TV show that we'd see manifest a few years later with streaming video.
To placate the worries of those who felt that the library would be losing circulation stats if the individual discs weren't circulating separately, we put the number of discs in each set in the Item Code 2 field & calculated the stats that way.
In my current work environment, each disc included in a multi-volume set circulates separately, as if it's not embarrassing enough that I'm a 40 something year old trying to make my way through a re-watch of The O.C., when I've also got to devote placing 7 holds to capture a single season of a TV show.
The introduction of this feature (& perhaps system-based way to account for the number of discs in a set), would be a big win for patrons whose libraries split up their series into individual discs. Getting them out of order is no fun!
The product manager will review this idea for possible inclusion in a future release.

This is one of the most common complaints that we get from customers. In addition to the number of holds that they have to place individually, they spend an enormous of time thawing and freezing holds.

Coming from another ILS that at least supported placing multiple holds on volumes, our patrons have missed this functionality for so many years. It's so frustrating and time consuming for both staff and patrons to have to place holds one at a time.
I would say that this functionality should exist in both the SDA and public facing catalog

Would this feature require having the volume record add on for Sierra?

This would be a HUGE quality of life improvement for patrons and for staff who are trying to facilitate a successful binge watching experience!
