  1. Idea Description
This idea is based in part on one submitted back in 2019 by Andy Helck.  Create an endpoint that will provide the list of records included in a specified review file from Create Lists.  I essentially envision this as the API version of the bool_set SQL table.

    Idea Value
This would provide outside systems the means of retrieving lists of titles that staff maintain within create lists and can provide a means for services to access data without having to work out how to create Json queries.

  2. Idea Description
If system generated review files could appear in Global Update/Rapid Update Review File dropdown list without even downloading them to Create Lists first that would save so much time.

It's a normal part of my daily workflow to upload records using Mobile Worklists or Data Exchange, copy them into Create Lists and manipulate the file in Global or Rapid Update.

    Idea Value
With the file appearing in the dropdown list in Global/Rapid update, the file can be manipulated as usual AND users wouldn't have to remember to empty the Review File (which was only created so it could…

  3. Idea Description

It would be far nicer to have the ability to work with hold data directly--in contrast to having to retrieve hold data via the patron APIs. For example: currently, in order to (reasonably) find the "pickupByDate" values for holds with status "(Bib, Volume, Item) hold ready for pickup" you would have to use a combination of the Sierra SQL feature (to first find all the patron record numbers possessing such a hold) and then filter all the holds for the list of patrons (from the previous step) having the "pickupByDate" key in the response object. Once you have the holds,…

  4. Idea Description
Fix the URL Checker "print" option to email, which can be useful to embed URLs and forward them to work on offline, but the columns on the report break the URLs and the report is useless since the full URL is forced to break based on a fixed pre-determined length of column.  This would help both interactive / custom reports as well as a larger report of the list of errors. In example provided, anything not underlined in "blue" that wraps to a second line is a broken URL that will not launch.

  5. Idea Description

Automatically clear the jarcache directory in the Sierra Desktop App installation files after an upgrade or provide an option in the SDA settings to enable this.

    Idea Value

The jarcache directory is updated the first time the SDA is launched after a Sierra upgrade.  After several upgrades the directory becomes bloated with old .jar files. It makes sense for the jarcache directory to be cleared as part of the first launch of the SDA post upgrade. This will ensure a fresh set of jar files.

  6. As a library worker using the Sierra staff client, when I have a review file open or selected, I want some navigation that will take me directly to Global/Rapid Update to work on that review file.

    Idea Value
I am constantly creating review files then editing them in Global or Rapid Update. This is a big part of my job. I don't know how many times I've gotten to Global/Rapid Update and I can't remember the number of the list I'm working on. It would be great to have navigation in Create Lists that would take me directly to Global/Rapid…

  7. Idea Description

Currently within create lists there is a option to add records to a list that can be accessed when viewing the contents of a review file.  This opens a search window where you can then pull up a record and add to the review file once you've found what you're looking for.

It'd be nice to open up this function and make it accessible outside of Create Lists such that from any record you can click on an "add to list button", which would bring up a window of existing review files of the relevant record type and…

  8. Idea Description

Create tools for managing the hidden review files that are created by the system or record loading.  Being able to see the list of hidden review names, record numbers, dates, would be great for system housekeeping.  Being able to bulk delete the review files many of which are from record loading would be even better!

    Idea Value

This idea would go a long way to helping system administrators clean up the review file section of the system.  The currently method of having to copy them is clunky at best.  Deleting them one at a time is even clunkier and…

  9. With the recent changes that allow the label to display in the item record, staff now see the descriptive name of the statistical group in the checkout location. However, 0 displays as None and does not honor what is in the Statistical Group Maintenance table. We have ours labeled for Web Renewals and would like this display to honor what is in the table as opposed to saying 0 None.

  10. Libraries with varied types of media in their collections require more location information associated with items than a shelfmark. We would like to see a Current Location field as standard in the item record. This field must be included in the data libraries for item paging notices as retrievals staff will need this information on retrievals lists/slips.

    Idea Value
To record the exact location of items within the buildings, which will facilitate retrieval of less standard items or special collections items that are not easily stored in a standard sequence. Current location data is essential for museums accreditation.

  11. When exporting MARC tags, export should have all the subfields marked. Now that I try to export say 041, I can´t see if the language code is in a, b or d... And this would be important to know as it is not the same to have say |a fin |h eng and |a fin |a eng.

  12. We would like to have a collection summary report based on item records with a count by item type and location. If possible, adding a limiter for circulation status, for example on shelf or checked out.

  13. We use the hourly patron borrowing reports in Web Management Reports to track patron visits at offsite hold lockers. We would like to have this report migrated to Decision Center since this is the tool already in use by our frontline staff.

  14. These two fields can be incorporated into searches performed within create lists but are not available among the fields that can be exported. Best title normalized is particularly helpful for data brought into a spreadsheet as the removal of special characters and diacritics can greatly improving sorts and searching.

These fields are available via SQL, where I make frequent use of them, but for most of our users Create Lists is the only option for extracting data from the system.

  15. Our Acquisitions staff does not use List Price when ordering, & is hoping that Estimated Price could be modifiable via Rapid Update. At the moment, this would help them modify 200+ order records, which they now have to do manually.

  16. As I'd done in similar scenarios countless times before, yesterday, I was in the process of modifying the activeholds on my account in Sierra to change them to a newly created pickup location.

There were several that needed changing, so I selected 'All.' However, rather than make a batch change of the half dozen or so that needed updating, Sierra cycles you through each item individually, forcing multiple arguably unnecessary clicks, when the expected & more intuitive outcome in this scenario would be to indicate the desired change once & see it changed for all selected records.

  17. Currently once an item is placed on hold, if the patron changes the pickup location after the item has already been paged for, the item will not be paged for again. With Title Priority Paging and “Prioritizing Hold Fulfillment at the Pickup Location” settings in place, this means a patron could be waiting much longer (depending on the “Pageslips: Number of hours before page can be transferred”) for their hold, even though they have fixed their mistake and reselected their intended pickup location. Additionally, even if the old pickup location pulls the item, they won’t be able to fulfill the…

  18. When you increase the font size to 20 for cataloging, it enlarges all the other information except the title line which remains the same. As a result, the title line appears smaller in comparison to the other information. It would be great is the title also displayed in the larger font.

  19. We complete many repetitive tasks in cataloging and patron record management each day. This entails using Create Lists to generate the list, and then using Global Update to perform the same set of edits each time. We need Scheduler to be able to connect into Global Update to perform those tasks automatically.

This may require enhancement of Global Update to save the Command Input, or it might mean adding the Command Input choices to Scheduler.

    Example:
Scheduler runs an updated Create List using a saved search query to identify items that need their suppression code updated.
    It then uses a…

  20. We require certain information to create a library card, however Sierra does not enforce this requirement at the system level. Since it isn't mandatory, some data simply never gets captured and creates more work on the backend.

Beyond that, having certain information in the record would allow us to build a better understanding of our usership so that we can make better decisions as an organization.

I especially would love the ability to require any and all of the fixed-length fields; especially patron category, birthdate, home library, and notice preference.
