  1. The current 250-character limit in Vega Discover's announcement feature significantly restricts our ability to convey essential, detailed information in a single message. This limitation is particularly challenging when addressing complex situations that impact multiple services. Our public relations team is compelled to create multiple, shortened versions of the same announcement to fit this constraint, leading to an inefficient communication process that does not align with the capabilities of modern CMS platforms.

In the Location Drawer, there is a search box that offers the user a place to narrow the results based on call number, edition date, etc. When the user changes the location, the results update to the desired location and the search term(s) is retained in the search box, but the results don't reflect the inclusion of the search term. The user must click in the search box and manually re-execute the search. This is not intuitive at all. Clearer wording for the "Request Failed" box that displays when a patron attempts to place a hold on an item for which they are already on the hold list (this is prohibited in our implementation). This version of the Request Failed box says "couldn't find suitable edition for the request." Despite the new green alert bar indicating the hold status of the item, this error box wording would not likely be intuitive to our patrons.

  4. The 008 is the field we would prefer to use for the language facet and no other field. The 008 only field is consistently used in all our records. We stopped using the 240 fields in bib records, because that caused problems in Vega. The only time we use the 041 is when a title is bilingual. It would be a huge amount of work to update all our bib records. It is complicated how it currently works, and search results are confusing.

  5. Previously on the classic Polaris PAC patrons were able to cancel "active" INN-reach holds until those items had shipped. We would like that ability for patron management on Vega Discover as well.

  6. When a patron goes into a list of bookmarks, the default sort order is oldest first. I would prefer it if the resources I just added appear at the top of the list without having to scroll or re-sort.

  8. When an 856 is in an Overdrive record, it converts to a resource entity in Polaris during the integration process. However, a library can certainly add their own 856 to the bib record after the fact (that will say something along the lines of “Click here to check out this title on the Overdrive site!”).

  9. Current holds protocol as of November, 2023, prioritizes checked-out items owned by pickup library over items on shelf at other libraries. Give us flexible options to prioritize holds to suit our consortium's policies.

  10. Right now, when you click on the library info icon in the top right, it seems to default to whichever library we have most recently been editing on the admin interface. It should default to the library site that you are actually on. as it is, the patron must use the drop down to find their library. I am sure others have made this request.

  11. Please enable ProQuest database customers to seamlessly search their databases within Vega Discover without the need for creating placeholder bib record redirect links. The ultimate objective is to allow patrons to conduct searches for items such as historical newspaper titles and receive relevant search results from our catalog, along with direct links to ProQuest Historical Newspapers databases associated with their search queries.

    Third-party databases would also be fantastic but I'm sticking to Clarivate owned products for now.

  12. I would really love to see the Baker and Taylor "Boundless" interface refined. Talking to reps from B and T, it appears that the API is currently able to pass credentials, however in Vega you have to log into the B and T site to retrieve items. It would be more seamless and less confusing for patrons to at least authenticate them on the site when checking "get item" from Vega. Eventually, a tight integration like what we have with Overdrive would be awesome.

  13. It would be nice to have a link in Vega Discover to report incorrect images and have a status note once its been reported so multiple reports are not being submitted for same image. Contact information seems to change often and can get a bit frustrating to get resolved.

  16. When you click on a subject heading that appears under "Topics" on a resource page to find other similar resources, it would be better for the results to display as a search results list so that you can further refine the list.

    Staff often start with a particular title, then look for appropriate subjects to link to other relevant resources for a patron and they would like to be able to apply other filters (particularly Availability and Location but other facets would be useful too) to refine the list of resources.

  19. We have had a few customers report that when they open their My Bookshelf on a laptop they can't see their entire bookshelf. When they open in a new tab or new window it doesn’t display optimally either. You can control and – to make the screen smaller, but then you can't actually read what's on your bookshelf. They know you can use the toggles but you can't see all your holds or checkouts at once.
