  1. The Time to Holdshelf feature in Sierra is useful in keeping patrons from showing up too early to pick up their holds. As seen in the attachment "Discovery Layer View" – which in our case happens to be BiblioCore – the availability status correctly reflects that the recently checked-in item "Easter Mice!" is not ready for pickup because the item is en route to the pickup location (which in this case is a set of freestanding pickup lockers in a remote area of the county).

However, the holds status as displayed in the SDA incorrectly reports the item as being…

  2. Currently, authentication using the NCIP protocol does not update the CIRCACTIVE attribute in the patron account. We use this protocol to authenticate to a statewide ILL service and we'd like to know when cards are being used in this union catalog and not just our own.

We use CIRCACTIVE to determine which cards are being used and which ones aren't. This is useful for statistical purposes, but is also linked to our patron database purge process.

  3. As a default suppressed records are not included in the harvest stream. This becomes an issue when a harvested record later becomes suppressed in Sierra as the harvester does not know to remove it from its listings as its omission from the stream does not allow for identification of its suppressed state. I would recommend that the option to include suppressed records should be configurable as a harvest stream level, giving the library the ability to configure the inclusion/exclusion dependent on their business rules.

  4. I just learned that Scheduler Output MARC records can't send an FTP password that includes the characters [{}"/

It will let me save a task with such a password and spend months trying to figure out what's wrong. If it can't deal with a particular password, it should give an error saying what's wrong with the password.

  5. We currently have staff at a number of branches testing Mobile Worklists. More than one location has requested the ability for users to increase font sizes for displayed characters in title paging lists & elsewhere throughout the app. Hopefully this could be tied to their login, so settings are not constantly in need of a reset between users of shared devices.

  6. I had first suggested this over a decade ago when at another library that was struggling how to balance its combination of branch & research library users & the sort of requests they might make. While no longer there, I still see it as a potentially useful means for staff to develop their request processes & create limits within limits.

What I'd like to see is the ability to not only set a hold threshold, but as is the case for the Max Items A-D allowed as applied to checkouts, allow a similar breakdown for holds.

    Optimally, this would allow…

  7. The Item Code 1 field was going to solve all my statistical issues. I thought it had 5 characters and each character could be 0-9 which meant I could assign a meaning to each character. For example, the first character indicates agency (1 for CPL, 2 for ADL, 3 for BKM) and the second character indicates audience (1 for adult, 2 for young adult, 3 for juvenile, 4 for other) and the third character, format, etc. HOWEVER it turns out that the largest number this field can hold is 32767 which is weirdly random and very limiting when you want…

  8. Currently, the ability to override a hold block is governed by permission 92.

A hold might be blocked for a number of reasons. Staff might attempt to place more than the max number of holds allowed for a customer. They might place a hold for a customer on an item they already have checked out, etc.

One scenario especially has been problematic for as long as I can remember:

A patron finds an item on the shelf & takes it to a service point to check out. It turns out that this item can satisfy a hold placed by another…

  9. Our library would like the option to have the return address for bills reflect the address of the patron's home library (as defined in the patron record) rather than the owning location of the item. The current setup (using the owning location of the first item on the bill) means that when patrons check out items sent from another branch to fill a hold, they can receive a bill from a library that they may never have been to. While patrons can visit any of our locations to resolve a bill, we would prefer the bill to reflect their local…

  10. One of the best features within Mobile worklists is the ability to easily edit item records from a mobile device. However, this feature ignores the scoping feature in the Sierra client that prevents one location within a consortia from make edits to items belonging to a different location. Due to this, we are unable to provide access to this feature to our members.

Mobile worklists should follow the same permission limits as the client and enforce scoped item editing.

  11. Following Disney's lead of recycling years old ideas for theme park attractions, I'd like to see an idea I'd had while working with a former employer brought to fruition in Sierra. We had been using Millennium at the time & the Circ Product Manager had gotten to a point in development that there was a near-working model on III's test environment (I've got screenshots & even a Captivate video somewhere), but I left that employer & the III product manager left III & the idea was abandoned. Sure, it's not as exciting as Disney's announced "Villains Land" or a boat…

  12. Organizations with restrictive security policies may be unable to use FTP over port 1021 (or any other port) for file transfer to Sierra WebPAC, since FTP is an inherently insecure protocol. For the same reasons, FTP should ideally not be in use at all (even where permitted by the customer's organization) since it entails sending login credentials in cleartext which makes it subject to interception and abuse.[1]

Without FTP, the only alternative is to use Web Master within Sierra Desktop App to upload files to make changes to Live or Staging WebPAC screens.

If Innovative implements Secure File Transfer Protocol…

  13. Idea: create a new status that references a scheduled booking for an item.

Value: Currently, Sierra does not change the status of an item that has a scheduled booking. When using the API to reflect the status of an item on a catalog, the item will show as status - (On Shelf) even though the item is not available because it has a scheduled booking for that time. This makes it seem as if the item can be scheduled for a specific time when it is already booked. When an item has a booking, changing the status to "Booked" when…

  14. Enhance cybersecurity by not revealing the api methods through the swagger interface to unauthenticated users. For example, a potential hacker can view the swagger interface which shows all methods and explains how to use them. This is an issue on all api endpoints including the iii sandbox. My idea is to only reveal the swagger methods to authenticated users.

  15. One of the nicest features in Decision Center is the title details screen, which you can access by clicking on a title in the handful of reports that include title entries such as the Popular Titles Report.

However, if you're logged in and happen to know the URL structure for those pages (https://[your Decision Center URL]/report/titleDetails/[bibnumber]) you can actually pull up the information for any title in your database directly.

I'd like to see a means for navigating to that screen more directly and just expose this awesome feature of the platform that already exists. I envision a simple page…

  16. The ability to log into admin corner, view all users and with one click disable them (not delete, but deny them log in access) would be helpful for those with revolving part time employees.

We have student employees that change out regularly, but sometimes they come back as graduate student help, etc within a short time.

Being able to simply turn off an employees access and review it within a year or less to determine if it should be deleted or held would be helpful for keeping our staff accounts cleaned up.

  17. By default in the SDA, items are blocked from renewal if a hold is placed on the associated title or volume.

If the Renew Title Holds feature is enabled, the system gives you the option to OVERRIDE the block on renewing held titles and volumes. The system does not consider frozen holds when blocking items from renewal.

Staff will always select "yes" to a renewal if there is an available item. They do not want to continually select "override" when they are renewing multiple holds.

Can there be an option to always renew if there is an available item (without…

  18. I recently wanted to run a search for all records that matched certain criteria and did not have an 856 field. However, Create Lists does not currently have a "lacks field" option. It would be very helpful to be able to search for records that do not have certain fields.

  19. When using Create Lists and using Retrieve Saved Query, you are able to sort the list in ascending order. When you go to Save As a query, it goes in and there doesn't appear to be any sort of order (in the past I swear it went in the order it was added/saved). So if you have to tweak your query and need to Save As again, good luck finding it, esp. when you have 100+ saved queries. Ideally you could sort the list of queries, like you can when you initially retrieve them.

  20. This is two fold. First, we would like to be able to set a default printer option determined by the staff users workflow (circulation workflow/function would default to "email to patron", and cataloging function would default to local printer, etc). So staff log in and select their function area and the system uses a specific printer default accordingly.

Secondly, we would like to have the "Send to email address" printer option changed somewhat. When selected, it would have a drop down of emails available to send to. These would be set up by the system admin. It would reduce the…
