Currently if a copy isn't available at the pickup location of any edition in a multi-edition rollup in Vega Discover, the holds logic dictates that it will look next for any edition with a copy available at the patron's home library, then for the edition with the most available copies, then if no copies are available, for the edition with the best holds:copies ratio.

In Encore, we could leverage scopes we had created in Sierra to create a quick way to search a group of nearby libraries-for instance, Quad Cities area libraries, Rockford area libraries, Henry County libraries, etc. In Vega, there is no quick way to do this. It would be great to have a way to create location groups in specific collection sites so that patrons can have this "shortcut" available to them again.

  3. I have worked at my current library for close to 6 months now. I cannot begin to describe the number of times a patron tells me they do not understand Vega Discover, or how to find out where an item is shelved. The filled in large green check mark is too distracting and confusing to patrons. That is a complaint I have heard repeatedly. The small open not filled in check mark with the library name is not visible enough to patrons, nor is it super obvious it's a hyperlink to the call number.

This idea came from a journey mapping exercise at IUG - a non-card holder attempts to use the library for the first time, makes their way to a library website, uses the search box to find an item, and locates it in the results. They select the Get It / Place Hold button and are presented with a request to log in. With no card, they're at an impasse.   5. It would be nice to have a link in Vega Discover to report incorrect images and have a status note once its been reported so multiple reports are not being submitted for same image. Contact information seems to change often and can get a bit frustrating to get resolved.

  7. Allow patrons to automate holds for new releases from their favorite authors. Patrons should be able to select their favorite authors to be automatically placed on hold for new releases or acquisitions from that author. Vega discover could also provide statistics on which authors have the most holds, allowing libraries the ability to improve purchasing for popular authors. This would provide an improved solution to a popular program offered by many libraries.

  8. We generally prefer serial bibs for multi-volume graphic novels over individual bibs for each volume. Syndetics doesn't seem to understand this set-up. Only the first volume in the series is in color, while the other volumes (which are reflected as ISBNs in the serial bib, and as item records) are grayed-out. This is misleading to patrons. Syndetics should recognize our holdings from all the ISBNs in the bib record.

In a consortia, especially one with many member libraries that share patrons, it is important for users to be able to move from the main/parent domain instance of Discover to one of the individual library sites and also to be able to navigate between member library sites. This is functionality currently available in the Polaris PAC and heavily used.

  10. A staff member would like to add the possibility of creating multiple item level holds on one title in the catalog similarly to what staff members can do in Leap. This will help patrons and book clubs that would like to place a hold on the same title without a duplicate error more seamlessly.

  11. Currently, when you renew an item, your checked out date updates to the date you renewed. Patrons have asked that it show the original check out date. So an item checked out originally in November and renewed in December would show the new due date, renewals remaining, and the original due date (not the date item was renewed). I suppose it could show renewal date, so long as original checkout date was available to see somewhere on the account (patron view).

    Please allow items to be automatically renewable in the system without effort if the item isn't on hold.

    Also please reinstate the searching code to limit to North Chicago Public Library easily. In Encore we could put " DVD and C:239" to limit to our DVDs in one step.

In line with ideas about customizing the experience more to the patron, and adding more useful information to the lists feature, I would like if the messages like "you have one copy checked out" or "you have one copy on hold" appeared when patrons are looking at their own lists (like it does on resource pages, but without having to click into each one to see the status). It could also be tied to data from the reading history to say "borrowed once before," etc. This would help patrons who are researching a topic and bookmarking many potential resources, or…

  15. We often re-use images for our Vega home page, specifically the Hero, and there is no way to quickly access those images - you are forced to upload again and again. For example, maybe we opt to promote/use one of our Hero images every 3 months for a particular service. When you go to promote that service again, you have to try and find the artwork you stored locally again, upload.   16. In the My Bookshelf Area, which includes Checkouts, Holds, Bookmarks, Saved Lists, Reading History and Showcases, it can be cumbersome for those patrons with large lists to view them. Patrons (and staff) are missing the ability to view multiple titles without having to scroll and would like the option to view these lists in a text format instead of what is currently available.

  17. Libraries should have the option to exclude frozen holds from the total holds queue that appears in any catalogue.

    Benefits:

    1) Customers will have a better idea of where they are in the hold queue.
    We encourage customer-driven hold management, and customers have told us that they want an estimate of when their holds will be filled.
    This is especially true when customers place multiple hold on titles within a series.

    2) Customers will not see inflated hold queues and provide feedback to the Library that they should purchase more copies.

  19. We would like to be able to remove "advanced search" from the kids cat, however it appears that it is enabled across all the collection and kiosk sites if it is turned on. We would like to be able to enable it at the collection/kiosk site level if needed.

  20. Allow more than 10 "exceptions" to library hours. The 10-exception limit often does not allow for a full year's worth of closed dates to be listed, which makes it feel incomplete. The limit also means that admins will have to go back and make edits more frequently to both remove passed days and add the next exceptions, instead of adding all exceptions at the beginning of the year and simply removing passed holidays as they happen. (It would also be cool if the passed days could disappear automatically.)

    I would also like "closed" to be the default type of exception…
