  1. There is currently no warning if a patron selects titles in one of their saved title lists with the intent to place a request but then accidentally clicks the Remove button instead.

    Providing either a warning message, as is the case for things like canceling holds, or putting deleted titles in something like a trash can for 30 days or so, would prevent accidental deletion and related frustration and improve the user experience.

  2. In Picklist, when you click deny next to a checked INN-Reach item, it disappears from the picklist. If the item is being denied because it was not on the shelf, we need a way to mark it as missing but can't get back to it when it disappears.

    If we open the item record to change the status to missing and then return to picklist to check it and mark it missing, we get the attached error. Can you add another picklist view for items marked Denied so that staff have an easy way to do follow up? Thanks for…

  3. In Simply Reports, add ‘Hold activation date’ as an option under ‘Hold relative date filters’ for Hold List reports.
    We want to be able to use this report to provide a list of holds 45 days or more not filled based on the Hold activation date.

As a library with a lot of historical serials, it would be very helpful to have barcodes visible in the OPAC so if I want to look at a serial issue that's a troublemaker in the catalog, I don't have to scroll through sometimes hundreds of issues in the client/LEAP to find the one I wanted to investigate.

  5. When libraries within our consortium borrow and lend items among each other, they send those items through the mail. Currently, they have to manually look up each other's mailing addresses (many times by Googling which isn't always accurate). It would save staff time and reduce errors if a library's mailing address could be included on the In-Transit Slips.

    This would also allow for libraries to ensure the requesting library has their 'preferred' mailing address if an item needs to be returned to a location other than the owning library. For example, if a Main Library processes holds for its smaller…

  6. We're working with a vendor to import patron records into Polaris as part of a program to give every student of the local school district a library card. As part of the arrangement, these student cards will be exempt from billing.

    Unfortunately, there is no means to check the "exclude from" overdues, billing, etc. boxes in the API, so this will have to be done manually every time a new batch of students is imported. Please make it possible to modify these options via API.

  7. Often library staff place requests on specific items and need to follow-up when the item is returned (check condition, re-label, compare copies of title, replace, discard, etc.). Our previous ILS supported a hold notes field that would display the saved note when the item was checked out. This reminded staff of why they had requested the item, or would let another staff member know what needed to be done with the item when the hold was filled.   9. I propose an enhancement to the SIP2 protocol: including the "PA[PickupAreaDescription]" extension in the Item Info response (18). Currently, this valuable extension is only available in the check-in response. The key issue with the current setup is that when systems attempt a check-in to obtain the "PA" value, the check-in process completes, which can prematurely finalize item handling without allowing the system to decide if a check-in should be initiated based on the item's status or location.

While there are many advantages to way that Polaris calculates TOMs, there are currently some significant limitations for differentiating between formats. 4K BluRays, Playaways/Yotos, and video game systems are all very difficult to distinguish from one another when using only the MARC fixed fields. Additionally, many libraries are expanding their collections with Libraries of Things that are usually coded as "Kit" or "Three Dimensional Object" rather than describing what it actually is. These bib TOMS are also now featured prominently in Vega Discover's rollups.

In System>Parameters>Notification>Notification Options>Overdue & Bill, I would like to see the "Include Claimed Items" broken out into individual notification options for Claims Returned, Claims Never Had, and Missing Part. As of now, if this option is selected, notices will go out for all or nothing regarding these claims. I would like to only send notices for Missing Part items and not the other two. My reasoning is I do not want to continue to send notices for items I consider "resolved" when a patron says they returned something or that they never had it. However, I do want to continue…

  13. Please allow libraries to limit online registrations by their selected geographic location (state, county, city, zip code, etc.). We have too many people signing up that are outside our location and then using the resources which eats up our budget thus robbing our true patrons from their share of the resources.

    We currently have to comb through the registrations and find the "out of area" one and manually delete them. Would be better to prevent them in the first place. Never goodwill to give and then have to take away.

    This will help Library staff and Library patrons.

  15. Add a link generator to the Record Set application. There's way too much room for error in expecting staff to create a custom URL every time we need a record set. It would make sense to have it near the Export function under the Actions menu. Thanks for considering!

  16. In our Retain/Delete table we remove certain subject headings with specific indicators. When we save a Bib record, the Remote Authority Control checks EVERY heading then removes the tags marked for deletion and checks the headings again.

    It'd be more efficient, time-wise, if Polaris deleted the tags first, then perform the Remote Authority Control.

A request for an enhancement from our Homebound Services (Outreach) department: In Reading History, it would be beneficial to generate an alert (has had) from the Reading History when placing a hold, not during check out of the item. Presently, the current setting notifies staff at check out whether the patron has had the title already.

  18. The multiple holds feature in Leap is really nice - unless you want to make sure that a bib you're selecting is actually the thing you want, the need for a preview option has been suggested in another Idea Exchange submission.

    Another common use for multiple holds is creating what we at DPL call "Teacher Sets" where staff pull a bunch of topical items based on criteria provided by a teacher, place holds on them and then check them in to fill those requests and contact the customer.

  19. When sorting by a column, then choosing an item and hitting located, it resets the sort back to the default.

There are times when we could easily fix bib records via SQL but may run into issues where the index may no longer be valid and the updated bib records may not appear or be omitted in search results. Instead of requesting for a FULL database re-index, we could easily group the involved records into a Record Set and use Bulk Change with a "Miscellaneous" tab with the option "Re-index Bibliographic Records".
