  3. During our user testing, we received numerous inquiries from both children and parents, expressing a desire for the option to access both fiction and nonfiction content within the limited search view designed for kids. This feature may assist them in distinguishing whether the material is intended for leisure or educational purposes at a quick glance. This shouldn't be turned on by default but should be able to be toggled for libraries willing to make that change.

  4. Further customize Hoopla integration to allow segmentation of collection content.

Hoopla doesn't do Top 100s or Top 500s anymore as of January 2024. What they can do is "Top Load", which is popular titles across each format (about 85,000 records) and includes top DEI and non-English language titles.
Libraries also want to segment to just Juvenile, just audiobooks, etc.

  5. 690 $v is currently ignored upon ingest, causing Local Subject entries to disregard subheadings in Concept displays. We're attempting to create showcases based on saved concept searches for some of our local collections, rather than needing to manually updated showcases as new items are added. Subcollections with subject heading like Diversity Collection -- Asian/Pacific Islander literature, Diversity Collection -- Latinx literature, and Diversity Collection -- LGBTQIA+ literature all display under the concept Diversity Collection in Discover.

  6. One of our member libraries mentioned this as a possible feature request for Vega Discover.

They stated, "A great would be if you can click the library name to display item availability if under the location drop down if you can also display the library address and phone number. This would make it easy to click the phone number to call the library to check on real time status of an item for patrons etc. Very useful for staff and patrons!

Let's also have the library address be a clickable link that hops into google maps to navigate to the…

  7. This is a combination of 2 ideas: Patrons would like to share lists they've created, and some patrons like to "Follow" others. We could create a new world of library "influencers" such as what is on social media, by having "Library Influencers" - those with over x number of followers. Patrons could select who they want to follow, and lists could be shared over social platforms.

  8. Vega only displays the first series tag (490, 800|t, 830) in a bibliographic record. There are many scenarios where a title may have multiple series tags for good reason. ALL series tags should display. A work may be titled the Boxcar children collection 3 and contain various volumes of the Boxcar children series, each tagged individually. To only display the first series tag (vol. 89) is misleading. There are also many instances of a popular numbered series also being part a publisher genre series (example for Iced by Felix Francis: Francis novels ; bk. 10 and Thorndike Press large print…

  9. We have several customers that use genre headings (655 field) to find materials. For example, "video recordings for the hearing impaired" helps deaf and hard-of-hearing customers locate DVDs with closed captioning. This is not a searchable field in Vega and there does not seem to be a way to find this information anywhere on the record.

  12. We have the ability to turn off "Other books in the series" in our Syndetics settings which turns off the gray covers for items not owned in that section, but unfortunately we have no way to turn off just the "Similar Series" section of "You May also Like" without also turning off the "Top Picks" for individual titles in the "You May also Like" section. We would like "Top Picks" to be separate from "Similar Series" in the settings for "You May Also Like" so we can turn off one without turning off the other.

  13. In the "more in this series" area provided by syndetics, a grey cover image is displayed if the title does not exist in the collection. This creates confusion for the patron who sees a title that isn't there. When clicked on, it takes the patron to a keyword search, which creates even more confusion. We would like this to be optional. Right now, there is no way to turn off grey cover images without taking away a large part of Discover functionality. There is the ability to turn off syndetics, but then it turns off everything (removing "you may also…

  14. While testing out editing patron information in Vega, we ran across an issue. The mobile phone number field in the patron record edit maps to the 'o' field which we use in Sierra as a parent name field. It would make more sense to map to 'p' (telephone2) for us.

    Current Workflow

    1. The patron logs into Vega Discover.
    2. From their profile, they edit their information to add/edit a Mobile phone number.
    3. That phone number is mapping to Sierra's 'o' field

  15. For libraries with a large number of collection sites, it becomes labor-intensive to manually create entries for each site. It would improve workflow if an event could be assigned to multiple collections sites when it's being created. There could also be a "Global Event" type that would add it to all collections sites.

  16. Currently, when a user gets to the end of the configured images, they have to use the back arrow. It would be a better user experience if the hero carousel navigated to the first image.

  17. Showcase cover art has the flexibility to expand and contract across various sizes, resulting in a challenging navigation experience when displaying these items. To enhance user experience, consider either enforcing a consistent display size for cover art or, at the very least, maintaining uniform sizes for all showcases. For a visual representation of the issue, please refer to the attached image.

  18. It appears that editing a site name after its creation is not feasible. While the "Library Name" can be modified, there seems to be a limitation in altering the displayed "Site name" in your list of configured locations. Please refer to the included image where the issue is highlighted in yellow.

  19. After creating a site in the site configuration, you can limit to a specific location like main library or branch library. I would like to be able to chose all of our locations but be able to specify a "home" library which would reorder the collection location identical to when you log in to an account. This "home library" would still show all the locations having copies but would reorder them giving a specific location preference. You could also use this to select and display specific hours and info in the library info window. I'm thinking of this for an…

  20. We would like to have shelf location added as a facet in Vega in addition to collections. We use shelf locations for genres like Mystery, Urban Fiction, Science Fiction, and Graphic Novels that aren't reflected in our collection codes. There is currently no way for patrons to search by shelf location in Vega, so it's very frustrating for patrons trying to look for just Graphic Novels, for example. We would rather have shelf locations added as a facet than have to change all of our shelf locations to collections.
