Mark damaged items improvements
There are two things we would like to see in the Mark Damaged Items process. First we need a separate notice text for damaged items. We are trying to differentiate between lost and damaged and having to use the same notice text is problematic. Second, we'd like the status after the bill is paid to be Damaged & Paid (just like Lost & Paid) instead of just Damaged, as staff can't tell if this is an initial damaged status or one that has been paid for. These are handled differently and being able to create a list, for example, of…

Remove patrons from hold queue when they check out non-holdable copy
Problem: Many patrons have holds on titles in Quick Pick or Lucky Day collections. When they "get lucky" and check out one of these non-holdable copies their original hold remains in the queue and the patron often neglects to cancel their hold.
Impact: Fulfilling these unnecessary holds wastes time for staff and patrons and delays trigging other patrons' holds as the item sits on the holdshelf until the expiration date. Collection budgets are also negatively impacted as these unnecessary holds can skew the item-to-holds ratio for high-demand items that selectors use to determine how many additional copies to purchase.
Solution:…

add "recent search" to checkout browse (used when staff search catalogue to place holds)
The "recent search" in Search/Holds allows Libraries to determine how many past searches are saved. This is a huge benefit for staff when they are performing reference interviews with customers.
This "recent search" option is not available in the checkout browse workflow.
Our library has multiple bib records for DVD TV series (eg. Season 1, Season 2 etc). Staff that assist customers to place holds at the circulation desk struggle to place holds on these DVDs because they must keep typing the same title again and again into the checkout browse search query.
We have communicated to staff they can…

Checkout : ability to place bib level holds on titles listed in a search result
Customers still want staff to place bib level holds for them at the circulation desk. In checkout it is fantastic that staff can search the catalogue to place holds, but they often don't want to view every bibliographic record before placing the hold.
Customers asking for assistance at the circulation desk often have complex needs. They are looking to place holds on a number of titles within a series or they found the Discovery Catalogues did not meet their needs.
It would save staff a lot of time at the circulation desk if they could place holds on the titles…

Add "Available at Branch" to Sierra Search/Holds facets
Staff want to limit their search in Search/Holds to items that are on the shelf at their branch. These would be items with a status of "available" and a loan rule equal to zero.
Circulation workflows are severely impacted when staff have to use the SDA and the Discovery Catalogue to determine if items are in the branch.
Libraries with floating collections or multi-branch libraries do not always know what is on their shelves.
Customers that visit the circulation desk want to know if an item is in the branch. Staff want to know if items on a particular subject…

Add permission to prevent user deletion of notice jobs
We frequently have the unfortunate situation where staff accidentally delete their paging list from the list of Notices. Ideally, we'd prefer that frontline staff be able to prepare, print, & fulfill their paging lists but not be able to delete them.
Separating authorizations to create/edit/delete these lists from the preparation & printing would save support staff a great deal of time spent recreating these lists & remove some of the potential for frustration & confusion among frontline staff.

Floating Collections Minimum Item per Location Threshold
We're looking to replicate the behavior in the attached picture from Polaris on our Sierra site.
Specifically, our goal is to show an override prompt to try to prevent a location from going under a specific number of copies for a title. We're aware of Float Determiner Rules as far as entire location codes, but we're interested in using the number of copies of a bib record to prevent the item from floating if doing so would put them under the threshold number of copies.

OCLC Direct Requesting Ability to Map Data to Patron Notes
The protocol used for the transfer API (ISO 18626) does not provide a field for a patron note. There is a "serviceInfo/note" which OCLC maps to their Borrowing Library note. OCLC said they would look into whether there are any other potential options, but any solution would require development by both OCLC and Innovative. We would like to map data to patron notes or a Sierra ILL request location field.

Notify when Holds exist for linked patrons
Notify user when a patron linked to the current patron has holds available for pickup. This would eliminate the need to check individual accounts. The also eliminates having a patron leave without all the available holds for that family.

Toggle for Autorenew HLOVERDUE Patron Block
We'd like autorenew to look at the overdue count of the item rather than the patron HLOVERDUE (highest level overdue) when determining if the item should be renewed. This might be best implemented as a toggle in Admin Corner.
Currently, if the patron has a billed item, autorenew will cite the patron block for HLOVERDUE when blocking other items that would otherwise renew. In our system, we prefer to use the item's overdue count rather than HLOVERDUE for autorenew. When a replacement bill is on a patron record, they don't understand why autorenew has stopped working for their patron record.…

Browse Display in SDA - Allow Ability to Customize or Expand
We would like the ability to customize the "browse display" where the result of records show up after the indexed search. Specifically, we'd like the option to show fields that are only available if you make the effort to expand the display.
Currently, the description column shows the indexed entry, title, author, ISBN, Call Number and location. The pub year would be helpful (as would the 490) for when staff is asked for an author's next book in a series, and they don't know the series title, just the author's name. Especially authors who have multiple series. So for our…9 votes -
Retain SDA Search Terms Within Patron Session
Prior to Sierra 5.3, when placing a series of holds for a patron in the Sierra Desktop App, the search terms would be retained from one title to the next. For example, if a patron wants holds placed for all seasons of the TV show How I Met Your Mother, a staff member with the patron's record open will click Add Holds, type the search terms "how i met your mother" in the Browse dialog and click Search. A suitable title is located and a hold is placed on it. All good so far.
The undesirable behavior is observed when…

Manage Holds (view outstanding holds reports) should include INN-Reach items.
Currently to find a list of all INN-Reach items located on a branches holdshelf, not just expired ones is a difficult task. The Received Too Long report only allows you to sort by Patron Home Library which may not correspond to their hold pickup location. A person would need to run this report and look up each INN-Reach item to see if they are actually at the patrons home library, or a different branch. For library systems with multiple branches this is a time consuming process.
The Clear Expired Holds and Holdshelf Function only allows you to view expired INN-Reach…

FTS File Saving Printing - Include Login
As it's recommended to regularly delete old files after printing to FTS File Save, it would help to know who the owner is of the files that need to be deleted, much like you know the login/owner of old Statistics result files and Create List review files. While the system administrator may have an idea of who owns what files, staff may ignore naming conventions, etc., making it difficult to determine whether it's okay to delete an old file or if it it's something that should be kept for record keeping purposes. If this could be expanded to all files…

Let patrons enter a thaw date for frozen holds
Customers have the ability to freeze holds currently, but after the time has elapsed from them to be frozen, there is no message or alert, or automatic way for the holds to be "unfrozen".
Make a way for the holds to automatically unfreeze, or at the least for the customer to get a notice that the time has expired, so that they can unfreeze the hold themselves.
Idea Value
Our staff look at holds and how they are progressing as an indicator for purchasing additional items. the frozen holds show up in this list as well, and it is challenging…55 votes -
Expose more fields via circ_loan_rule table
In Sierra 5.5 the circloanrule view was added to SierraDNA, providing SQL access to an abridged form of the loan rule table. A few of the fields missing from this view are particularly notable and their addition would greatly expand on the opportunities to utilize this view in queries:nameis_bookablemax number of auto renewalsamount of fine
Idea Value
SQL access to this fields would enable the construction of more detailed loan rule based queries. In particular being able to look at fine rates and their impact on checkouts would be of great value.25 votes -
Globally Update Loan Rules
When there is a change to Loan Rules such as an increase to number of renewals, etc., it would be beneficial to globally update the field instead of changing each independently.
During Covid we increased the renewals and then decreased them a year later. I was told there was not a way to globally update the field and had to go into each Loan Rule to make the change.
Idea Value
This would save staff time and possible errors. Freeing staff to be more productive in other areas.56 votes -
prompt to clear item status at CHECKOUT : option for libraries to determine these statuses
When you checkout an item whose item status is not '-' (AVAILABLE), the system takes special action depending on the item's STATUS value. For those item statuses that generate a system prompt, the library would like the option to determine whether there is a prompt. This would have a significant positive impact on checkout workflows.
[I could place another "idea" for check-in prompts as well]
Idea Value
Our library assigns item statuses to items that generate a system prompt to clear the item's status at checkout (eg. missing, in processing, trace, and unavailable").I appreciate that libraries may have different…

Increase the Max Item Categories in the Patron Block Table
Increase the Patron Block Table to allow more than 4 block categories for groups of items by item type/location.
We would like to see Innovative add at least 6 additional categories, bringing the total categories up to 10.
Idea Value
Libraries are lending an increasing array of non-traditional materials. More categories in the patron block table are necessary to facilitate limited lending on these materials. This would allow libraries to limit lending more granularly. For example, allowing a set number of items in each of the following categories:
Books -100
CDs - 25
DVDs - 5
Videogames - 1
Games/Puzzles…50 votesThis idea was selected in MEEP voting for Sierra 6.5.

Open and edit patron record from item record
When viewing an item record, you can double click on the patron# and you can view the patron record of the person who currently has the item on loan. It would be good to also be able to have the option to actually edit the patron record, and to also be able to access what they currently have checked out.
Idea Value
This would negate having to have another Sierra session open and do a separate search for the patron's record so as to check what else they might have on loan, and/or to amend their record/add a message etc.…74 votesThis idea was selected in MEEP voting for Sierra 6.5.
