1. prompt to clear item status at CHECKOUT : option for libraries to determine these statuses

   When you checkout an item whose item status is not '-' (AVAILABLE), the system takes special action depending on the item's STATUS value. For those item statuses that generate a system prompt, the library would like the option to determine whether there is a prompt. This would have a significant positive impact on checkout workflows.

   Our library assigns item statuses to items that generate a system prompt to clear the item's status at checkout (eg. missing, in processing, trace, and unavailable").

   I appreciate that libraries may have different checkout workflows surrounding items with an item status that is not "-" (Available), so could libraries have the option to determine which item statuses generate a pop-up do not?

   We want to reduce repetitive strain. If we have a specific item status that has no staff action at checkout (and the item should just be checked out to the customer) we want to remove that barrier for staff.

   Our self-checkouts have the option to include/exclude item statuses. The workflow for checking out some of these item statuses is easier on the self-checkout than at the staff station (it is not consistent).

   I understand that some item statuses require a pop-up. But even removing 1 item status from the list of those that cause a pop-up would help us reduce the time it takes to check out an item.

   For new staff, pop-ups require training. Removing pop-ups simplifies our training.

2. Increase the Max Item Categories in the Patron Block Table

   Increase the Patron Block Table to allow more than 4 block categories for groups of items by item type/location.

   We would like to see Innovative add at least 6 additional categories, bringing the total categories up to 10.

   Libraries are lending an increasing array of non-traditional materials. More categories in the patron block table are necessary to facilitate limited lending on these materials.

   This would allow libraries to limit lending more granularly. For example, allowing a set number of items in each of the following categories:
   Books -100
   CDs - 25
   DVDs - 5
   Videogames - 1
   Games/Puzzles - 1
   Kits - 1
   Artwork - 2
   Equipment - 1

   The current setup leads to either overly limited or confusing options for staff and patrons:
   Either:
   Videogames, Games/Puzzles, Kits/Electronic Equipment - 1 (This is overly limiting as the library would actually allow one of each type at the same time.)
   OR
   Videogames, Games/Puzzles, Kits/Electronic Equipment - 4 (This is confusing, as patrons expect that they can check out 4 of each, for a total of 16 items.)

   Currently libraries have been attempting to enforce the desired lending policies manually, with limited success. Adding a new category is the only way to allow self-checkout of these items while still enforcing libraries' desired blocks.

   This idea was previously submitted by Ben Shirley on 10/24/2018.

3. Open and edit patron record from item record

   When viewing an item record, you can double click on the patron# and you can view the patron record of the person who currently has the item on loan. It would be good to also be able to have the option to actually edit the patron record, and to also be able to access what they currently have checked out.

   This would negate having to have another Sierra session open and do a separate search for the patron's record so as to check what else they might have on loan, and/or to amend their record/add a message etc. A situation which seems to occur quite a lot especially when following up on overdue items, holds, etc., and the extra steps involved in doing another search for the patron so as to access their record to edit it, is time consuming and frustrating.
