  1. Duplicate instances of a single item frequently appear on Bib Paging Lists resulting in confusion and either wasted paper (up to 7 pages were printed for a single item once) or wasted time deleting those lines before printing. There is no need for the paging list to alert us to multiple holds for any item, especially if we can't physically fulfill those holds.

  2. https://ideas.iii.com/forums/951745-ils-sierra/suggestions/46670854-sierra-5-5-direct-view-public-display-to-disco is closed/says it's already supported, but the part for being configured to more than one display option is not addressed. We would like to be able to have more than one option to display - Vega, Classic, Encore and even III Mobile if possible - so we can see how all iterations look right from the SDA. So in the menu it would be View | Public Display | array of choices

  3. It would be very helpful to be able to print a Statement of Charges directly from a patron record (and have it formatted for 8-1/2 x 11 paper and mail-ready).

For context, we are a 138-library consortium, all notices are Auto Notices, and we do not run Statement of Charges for the consortium. Yes, you can run a statement for 1 patron in the Notices function, but this requires consortium staff intervention since that permission is locked down to consortium staff. It would be much simpler for our member libraries to be able to print such a statement on an…

  4. More control over choosing priority between the item-level holds queue and the bibliographic-level holds manually so that the Processing department can pull back specific items on popular, high-volume holds with more ease.

  5. I know that there is a product called External Patron Images that would allow patron photos to display in their records. I am wondering if a similar product exists for documents (such as PDF)? For some of our lending items, patrons must sign a user waiver to agree to the terms and conditions, and we currently have a two step process to verify if this has happened each time they come in. It would be good to be able to add the scanned image of the waiver to a patron record for easier verification.

  6. Allow patrons to set a thaw date when freezing holds. Patrons often forget they froze holds and the hold lingers until it expires. Also, make this information available in the API for third party vendors, such as discovery layers.

  7. The first request we got after releasing emailed Due Slips was for the option to generate both an email and a print slip. Some people like the physical reminder in the form of a printed slip (that doubles as a bookmark!) and an electronic version that they can use as a reminder or a fallback.

  8. I am wondering if Sierra can be adapted to automatically insert name, date of birth and address using an id scanner, such as those used at grocery stores when verifying a person's age. This would save staff the time of manually entering this information into the appropriate fields. It would also allow less typos and/or other mistakes when inputting the information. Of course, having the manual option would still be necessary.

  9. We have a large consortia set up. Many clients are not required to bring their library card to the library circulation desk/s. When the library staff are searching for patrons with common surnames, quickly identifying their branch's patrons can be difficult - staff suggest adding a filter for home library or limiting the browse to their statistical group in their logins will limit the number of mistaken attempts to open the incorrect borrower record.

  10. The current "Frozen Holds" function in WebPAC does not allow for patrons to select a date at which they want their holds to be "unfrozen". Staff have the ability to set a "Not Wanted Before" date on behalf of the patron, but there is currently have no way to modify the date of a frozen hold on behalf of a patron in the Sierra Desktop App. SDA should have the option to change that date once frozen by the patron, in the event the patron cannot unfreeze it themselves.

Staff feedback: "We've had a lot of patron confusion around freeze…

  12. Sometimes it's unclear what permission is triggering the authorization required/override prompt during a transaction and thus what staff member will need to step in to override/allow the transaction to go through. It would be helpful if the "authorization required" prompt included the permission(s) that apply to the transaction.

  13. Postpone/freeze a hold after it's Ready for Pickup
Similar to Overdrive's redeliver option. Allow a patron to postpone/redeliver their hold one time if it comes in unexpectedly or at a time when they cannot come to pick it up.

  14. Have the results of Manage Holds automatically emailed each morning.

This would let staff pick holds even if they don't have Sierra open or available. The automated emails could be set up within the Manage Holds function itself, or could be accomplished if Scheduler worked with Manage Holds (right now Scheduler only works with Create Lists and Data Exchange).

  15. Analysis of holds is often requested by managers keen to see what users are requesting and how much material is going where across multiple sites.

However a lot of detailed information on holds in the SQL tables is transitory e.g. hold, hold_removed.

I have long thought that it would be helpful to include hold pickup location in circ_trans, which provides a historic perspective and can be downloaded and/or adjusted to capture longer time frames.

This would enable data and analysis which is not possible currently.

  16. by Kathy Setter Although we can sort by columns. in the saved notice jobs there is no way to rearrange them into a preferred order without being creative in naming the jobs (numbering, adding letters, etc). I would like to be able to move the lines to arrange them in the order most useful for staff. In other places you can right click and move up or move down, and that's what I would like to do here.

  17. There are two things we would like to see in the Mark Damaged Items process. First we need a separate notice text for damaged items. We are trying to differentiate between lost and damaged and having to use the same notice text is problematic. Second, we'd like the status after the bill is paid to be Damaged & Paid (just like Lost & Paid) instead of just Damaged, as staff can't tell if this is an initial damaged status or one that has been paid for. These are handled differently and being able to create a list, for example, of…

  18. Problem: Many patrons have holds on titles in Quick Pick or Lucky Day collections. When they "get lucky" and check out one of these non-holdable copies their original hold remains in the queue and the patron often neglects to cancel their hold.

Impact: Fulfilling these unnecessary holds wastes time for staff and patrons and delays trigging other patrons' holds as the item sits on the holdshelf until the expiration date. Collection budgets are also negatively impacted as these unnecessary holds can skew the item-to-holds ratio for high-demand items that selectors use to determine how many additional copies to purchase.

    Solution:…

  19. The "recent search" in Search/Holds allows Libraries to determine how many past searches are saved. This is a huge benefit for staff when they are performing reference interviews with customers.

This "recent search" option is not available in the checkout browse workflow.

Our library has multiple bib records for DVD TV series (eg. Season 1, Season 2 etc). Staff that assist customers to place holds at the circulation desk struggle to place holds on these DVDs because they must keep typing the same title again and again into the checkout browse search query.

We have communicated to staff they can…

  20. Customers still want staff to place bib level holds for them at the circulation desk. In checkout it is fantastic that staff can search the catalogue to place holds, but they often don't want to view every bibliographic record before placing the hold.

Customers asking for assistance at the circulation desk often have complex needs. They are looking to place holds on a number of titles within a series or they found the Discovery Catalogues did not meet their needs.

It would save staff a lot of time at the circulation desk if they could place holds on the titles…
