  1. Our staff would like the ability to add a description to Showcases, in addition to the detail described in the Showcase title. I've attached an example from another discovery layer.

  2. A staff member would like to add the possibility of creating multiple item level holds on one title in the catalog similarly to what staff members can do in Leap. This will help patrons and book clubs that would like to place a hold on the same title without a duplicate error more seamlessly.

  3. In the search bar, if someone types a query and their mouse happens to be below the search bar, when they press enter, it performs the search based on the suggested title or concept that was where the mouse was positioned. This unwanted autocompleting has confused me and others, and I've only just deduced the cause (I think). Most search engines don't do this behaviour, so people don't even think to consider the position of their mouse when typing a search into a search box. It has caused frustration for our librarians and patrons.

  4. It would be nice to have a link in Vega Discover to report incorrect images and have a status note once its been reported so multiple reports are not being submitted for same image. Contact information seems to change often and can get a bit frustrating to get resolved.

  5. Patrons would like to be able to remove a title from their reading history. (one by one ideally, though in a batch using check marks would work). Sometimes patrons borrow something and never get the time to read it and/or change their minds and never read it...

  6. the library would like patrons to be able to see patrons that are linked in Sierra. For instance, to allow a patron to renew their kids items under their Juvenile accounts, in bulk at once or flipping to that account view for renewing without re-logging in, or see and/or pay their fines, etc, because the accounts are linked in Sierra.

  7. Vega currently blocks item-level requests where one location attached does not lend the items, even though other locations will. The items that do not ILL are causing Vega to fail the request. This forces the patron to click the request button for all the editions/locations in the rollup until they find a library that will ILL the item.
Eliminate that painful patron experience by having Vega do that work for them. This should be set at the Consortium level as it is not an issue in the Collection Sites.

  8. In Encore, we could leverage scopes we had created in Sierra to create a quick way to search a group of nearby libraries-for instance, Quad Cities area libraries, Rockford area libraries, Henry County libraries, etc. In Vega, there is no quick way to do this. It would be great to have a way to create location groups in specific collection sites so that patrons can have this "shortcut" available to them again.

  9. Our libraries have requested that the "circ date" from the classic catalog be also displayed in Vega. As displayed in the screenshots, what the catalog calls the "circ date" is actually the last activity date in the item record in Polaris. This way staff and patrons know when an item last went in transit or enroute to a patron or was checked in/out. Ideally, it could either display in the Edition information area or in the Location drawer (both pictured in screenshots below).

  10. Allow patrons to automate holds for new releases from their favorite authors. Patrons should be able to select their favorite authors to be automatically placed on hold for new releases or acquisitions from that author. Vega discover could also provide statistics on which authors have the most holds, allowing libraries the ability to improve purchasing for popular authors. This would provide an improved solution to a popular program offered by many libraries.

  11. This field is used for publisher’s/distributor’s numbers for video recordings, sound recordings (including audiobooks), and printed music. These numbers are important access points for these materials.

All 028 fields should be indexed, regardless of indicators.

  12. We would like the option to hide the due date column, since it's not very reliable information. Our consortium has autorenew, so there is no guarantee the items will be returned on the date that displays to patrons, in fact it's rather unlikely given the rate at which our items autorenew.

  13. The 008 is the field we would prefer to use for the language facet and no other field. The 008 only field is consistently used in all our records. We stopped using the 240 fields in bib records, because that caused problems in Vega. The only time we use the 041 is when a title is bilingual. It would be a huge amount of work to update all our bib records. It is complicated how it currently works, and search results are confusing.

  14. By default Vega Discover loads zoomed in at 100% which cuts off a lot of useful information for the patron. The first record listed cuts off requiring scrolling and all the "Refine Results" don't show requiring scrolling. Vega requires an excessive amount of scrolling to see basic results. Zooming out to 90% rectifies this issue. I would like the option in admin settings to customize the default zoom level 70-100%. This will enhance the usability of Vega Discover and allow patrons the ability to see more vega options by default.

  15. For example: If a patron searches for the author Noelle Stevenson, results for their established heading of ND Stevenson should come up.
or if Diwali is searched for, the established heading of Divali should be included in results.

  17. In line with ideas about customizing the experience more to the patron, and adding more useful information to the lists feature, I would like if the messages like "you have one copy checked out" or "you have one copy on hold" appeared when patrons are looking at their own lists (like it does on resource pages, but without having to click into each one to see the status). It could also be tied to data from the reading history to say "borrowed once before," etc. This would help patrons who are researching a topic and bookmarking many potential resources, or…

  18. I have worked at my current library for close to 6 months now. I cannot begin to describe the number of times a patron tells me they do not understand Vega Discover, or how to find out where an item is shelved. The filled in large green check mark is too distracting and confusing to patrons. That is a complaint I have heard repeatedly. The small open not filled in check mark with the library name is not visible enough to patrons, nor is it super obvious it's a hyperlink to the call number.

This particular piece of Vega Discover…

  19. We’ve noticed that Discover doesn’t display the “recently returned” shelving status that comes from Polaris even though "Recently Returned" appears as an option in our Item Mapping list. "Recently Returned" is not a true item status in Polaris. The item status for recently returned items is actually “In” (which is how these items appear in Discover), but the database flags an item depending on whether or not it is also considered "recently returned."

Discover offers its own perfectly good “recently returned” functionality, but it would be nice if the “Recently Returned” message that patrons see in Discover could match the…
