  1. We've received several tickets from our member libraries reporting that patrons' bookmarked items aren't being saved. It seems this happens because patrons are bookmarking items while logged out. Although Vega does display a warning that users need to log in to save bookmarks, we believe user errors could be minimized if the option to bookmark items were only available after confirming the user is logged in.

  2. In the public catalog, titles in your reading history will say “Resource is not available” if the record has been deleted. In Leap, you can still see the titles, but it will tell you the resource is not available when you click on it. It would be great if Vega Discover could be set up like the staff interface so customers could see what the titles are even after the records have been deleted.

  3. Patrons and staff wonder why Vega Discover requires them to type the author’s full name and doesn’t use a wildcard, for example, to extrapolate the end of the author’s name. The current search only works if the author name matches exactly.

For example, if someone is searching for books by Daniel Kalla:
    Kalla - 19 results
    Kalla D - 0 results
    Kalla Dan - 0 results
    Kalla Daniel - 15 results

  4. Currently, addresses in the Library Info widget wrap text, as opposed to having line breaks like a proper address. I.e. in the images, the one labelled "Carbon edit" is how we want it to show up, but it shows up as seen in "Carbon widget". Additionally, words are also wrapping when they shouldn't be in other areas, as seen in the image of "Keg River widget". We would like this to display in the same way that it looks in the editor.

  5. Clicking on All Menu to get to All Links, displays an unattractive view with a big block of dark screen. Is it possible to get rid of this block of dark screen or make it visually more appealing.

  6. We have many titles that are collections of multiple titles, such as Binge Boxes, that are cataloged with multiple 520 (summary) fields to cover all the titles contained in the set. However, only the first MARC 520 summary field displays in Vega, which is difficult for customers who are trying to find all titles contained in the collection. The table of contents is buried in "edition information--details", which is very small and not obvious to the average customer, so they often don't know what titles the collection contains. This is also true for some short story collections and CD compilations.…

  7. Improve the staff function for creating bookmark lists to make it easier to add a title to multiple lists without increasing clicks required for adding a title to one list or remove a title from a list.

  8. Currently when someone applies through our Vega link (which goes to PowerPAC) for a library card and their name matches an existing cardholder, they get the following error message: "A patron with this name is already registered. Please contact the library for clarification."

It would be helpful if other fields could be cross-checked for duplicates, not just the first and last names. We receive numerous reports of this monthly from staff across the consortium, but we have no sense of how often it's actually happening.

  9. In Vega Discover, when executing a passthrough search, the external link icon is used as a button. This UI is confusing to patrons, who are expecting the catalog name to be the link or looking for a button that looks more like the other buttons on the page.
When the passthrough search only has one option, the option is a link, and that behavior is preferred. On the resource page, when there are more than one option, the external link icon appears, and the behavior is different. Our collection sites have more than one option, while the full collection Vega…

  11. After testing a few call number searches, we are realizing that this feature would work best if there were an index for call number searching, to prevent erroneous results from appearing in the list. For example, if I want to search JUST Dewey call numbers of 300, I don't want to retrieve the movie with the title "300". Also, for our world language materials, we use call numbers to distinguish between Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese, and we are getting a lot of additional results with the keywords "Traditional" and "Chinese" in the bib. records. We want to be able…

  12. For a better customer experience with our Chinese titles, we created some new non-MARC language codes in Sierra to separate out the Simplified and Traditional Chinese titles. Vega does not support non-MARC language codes, so it shows as codes instead of the label in Vega.

We'd like to see Vega be able to pull codes from the LMS along with their label.

  13. When searching for Serials within Vega, and attempting to Place Holds, we'd like to point out / suggest two things:

    • Add a Select All option and/or individual checkboxes on each issue (add ability to place bulk hold for multiple serials)
    • Address the empty Search results modal / dialog box, since it gives users no feedback on what they're seeing when there are no matching results. It should at least show "Your Search Returned (0) results" or something.

Attached first screenshot show a typical list of serials with the individual Place Hold buttons. This is where it would be…

  14. We would like the checkout summary in Discover to have a call number column like it does in the PAC. Some libraries use the call number to store information for linked uncataloged items. Please see the two attached examples.

  15. When staff members create a patron account in Polaris, our default notification preference is email. We'd like the ability to disable or hide the "No preference selected" option from Discover so patrons are forced to select one of our supported notification methods.

  16. In Encore, libraries had the ability to add Community Tags. These were quite useful in searching for topics that aren't traditional LC Subject Headings. For example, on our website, we have a link to Kids Resources on various topics like "potty training" as a community tag, the LC heading is "toilet training". Or "healthy eating". We also have Award winners as tags - Caudill, Monarch, Bluestem award winners.

  18. Add Sort by Author Ascending/Descending options to Bookmarks and Lists in patron accounts.

Along with Title and Date Added, this is an option in WebPAC that patrons are used to having. It also makes sense to have consistent view/sort behavior across the catalog. So, since patrons are/will be able to sort search results, checkouts, holds, and reading history by author, they should be able to do the same with other lists, as well.

  19. When looking at records in our catalog that have non-Roman vernacular script included in the 880 fields, it does not appear in the order in which it would best serve our patrons. I have included screenshots to illustrate how we purposely have the original language/vernacular script displaying in the 245 field so that it displays in the Title in brief results lists, and on the receipt and notices when patrons check items out for optimal patron service. However, despite our efforts, the transliteration is appearing foremost in search results in Vega instead of the original language/vernacular script, which is not…
