  1. Super frustrating to not be able to create a book list for displays or patrons needing a large amount of materials on a certain subject, and also not being able to easily print the list with the call number included. If there is an easier way to do this, please help me out: leticiag@harvard-diggins.org

  2. Patrons don't often think about cancelling a hold until they have received a notice. By that time, it is already in transit or on the holds shelf. This is often when they want to cancel, but cannot. There is an idea listed about suppressing the Cancel option for items that cannot be cancelled. This would be a partial solution, but for our library, the true need is to allow patrons to cancel items that have already been trapped for them.

  3. When using the hold shelf functions of IMMS (Intelligent material Management System), customers are unable to see in Vega which hold shelf their items are ready to pickup on.

    Workarounds are required by staff to fill this gap, and customers are encouraged to use other applications which does show this information.

    It would be great to have the hold shelf placement details displayed in Vega, for items ready for pickup.

  4. We would like a refinement facet that uses the ITEM LEVEL "material types" from Polaris that are more specific than the current bib level Types of Material used in the Format Facet.

  5. Right now, our library has to go through multiple steps to see useful information (like table of contents) or cannot see some detailed information (such as bib notes that we use to give customers/staff additional information about titles.)

    For example, when someone clicks on a title, you then have to select the “i” to display the item’s listings, and then click again to see an items table of contents. It would make the most sense for everything that is in the details, be included in that initial edition display.

    And similarly, we are not able to see the item’s 500a…

  6. When a user clicks on the new Selection boxes for bulk holds, then clicks to the next page to view more search results, the selected titles do not persist. I would expect to be able to page through and add titles across all of the pages of the search before choosing to Place Holds.

    If the selections are limited to a single page of the search results, there should be a warning or prompt when you click to a subsequent page that gives you the option to place your holds before losing them.

  7. I think the patron's would be better served if the hyperlink of an author's name went directly to the other items they have written and to NOT go to an author page. I feel like more patrons want to simply see other works by the author and not read a wannabe Wikipedia page.

  8. 690 $v is currently ignored upon ingest, causing Local Subject entries to disregard subheadings in Concept displays. We're attempting to create showcases based on saved concept searches for some of our local collections, rather than needing to manually updated showcases as new items are added. Subcollections with subject heading like Diversity Collection -- Asian/Pacific Islander literature, Diversity Collection -- Latinx literature, and Diversity Collection -- LGBTQIA+ literature all display under the concept Diversity Collection in Discover.

  9. Currently, only Vega showcases that are created from a set of bookmarks can be displayed on Record Pages, which is NOT an option for showcases from saved searches. In some cases, we prefer using saved searches vs. bookmarks, as they are easier to maintain. We still want to see those showcases show up on record pages. The documentation (https://documentation.iii.com/vega/admin/admin/Create_Showcase.htm) doesn't call out this limitation in the "To create a showcase from a saved search" section. We found out the hard way, after creating saved searches/showcases, had to recreate as bookmarks (and now maintain).

  10. On Order items and non-circulating items with holdings records (e.g. newspapers) do not appear in the search results on collection sites for consortia setup. Rather, they only appear in the search results for the global site.

  12. We are LOVING the fact that Syndetics Unbound pulls in reading-level information and readalikes. We anticipate this will be very popular with teachers and parents, and it would be awesome if there was a way to easily export a list of the titles available at that level. As far as we can tell, right now there isn't a way to add all of the titles to a list or export/print the list.

  13. We'd like the ability for patrons to link their existing library card account with other authentication platforms such as Google, Microsoft, Apple, Linkedin, Facebook, etc.. This would provide ease of sign-in and enhanced security through features like multi-factor authentication (MFA). Patrons would register their existing library account with one of these integrations if they decided to move to this method. This has become common enough across the web that we've had patrons specifically ask for the ability to login with their Apple or Google account.

Our patrons who speak and read other languages need to be able to see our world language material records in their own language, including the 264 information, not just the title, author, and series. For Chinese materials, our users can distinguish Traditional Chinese materials from Simplified Chinese materials by checking the place of publication, and they can only do this if they can see that info in their language. As pictured in the screenshots, the old PAC shows the transliteration AND vernacular script, whereas Vega only shows the transliteration. Our users need to see both.

  16. When an item is checked out through a third-party digital resource, like Overdrive/Libby, that is not included in our catalog it displays strangely. The list of digital items that aren't included in our catalog is extensive and forever increasing. I've included a screenshot of how it is displayed in the account records on Vega.

    It would be helpful if these items displayed in a way that was less confusing. Perhaps just simply calling it "Digital Item" would be fine.

  17. We use Polaris and our old catalog showed the number of renewals remaining/available for patrons. We've heard from patrons and staff that this would be appreciated versus the current view (number of renewals taken). Thanks for considering!

In the search bar, if someone types a query and their mouse happens to be below the search bar, when they press enter, it performs the search based on the suggested title or concept that was where the mouse was positioned. This unwanted autocompleting has confused me and others, and I've only just deduced the cause (I think). Most search engines don't do this behaviour, so people don't even think to consider the position of their mouse when typing a search into a search box. It has caused frustration for our librarians and patrons.

  19. This will help staff let patrons know where the notice will be sent when placing a hold on their behalf. It will also show patrons where to expect the notice to be sent to when they place holds.

    The red box in the attached screenshot would say the following:

    "Notice will be emailed (or texted to): ***"

  20. Our libraries do not use the Always Show a Call Number Option. We only want a call number to display if it's the expected library for the patron. Because of this the Find a Copy link does not always appear if only a few libraries have the item. We would like it to show consistently as removing it creates an extra step & an inconsistent experience when browsing. Clicking on "Find a copy" is helpful even if only a few libraries have the item since it pulls up the whole list of libraries that own the item and doing so…
