  1. We would like to see a new format of "Graphic Novel" which would not roll up with other books that have the same title and author. It could use the fixed fields in the MARC record when the 008 is for books with a 6 in "Nature of contents" (positions 24-27). This would help prevent us from having to add our own manufactured subtitles just to get certain graphic novels to stop rolling up with the book version.

    MEEP 2025 Winner

Will create a Graphic Novel Work Type. Polaris is working on an enhancement for TOMs so that Polaris libraries can have a Graphic Novel format display on tabs in Vega.

  2. Sometimes patrons can be confused concerning eMaterials not displaying the app that they receive the materials on. Being able to edit the vendor name under Edition Information (Additional Information in our case) would be helpful in mitigating that confusion.

  3. The planned/upcoming feature (as of January 2025) to add the ability to filter My Bookshelf lists by item availability is a nice addition. However, in looking at the preview, staff have expressed concerns that some patrons may find the carousel display of featured available titles too much, as a common theme we hear in feedback about the My Bookshelf feature in general is that there is too much scrolling and clicking involved to navigate it. The planned feature includes an option to collapse the view, which is nice, but allowing patrons an option to either set the default view to…

  4. Patrons using laptops with smaller display resolutions are finding the limited height of the account display frustrating, as they can only see one item at a time and scrolling via touchpad can be difficult. Many have asked if an option to extend the display to cover the full height of the screen could be made available.

  5. For example blaf - Level 1 is bl = LINC Library Innovation Center, since we're a multi branch we need this in the Locations facet.

But now for the af = adult fiction, we would like this to be a separate facet like we did in Encore.

  6. Are displays customizable? For example, could we exclude the words “collection” or “shelf location?” example: Shelf location 1st Floor Display Readers' Services | Collection Adult Fiction

  7. We have over 23,000 bibliographic records in our legacy ILS that represent articles within serials and we continue to add new ones on a regular basis. We use the MARC 773 field to list the parent serial title, volume and issue number, and pages of the article, but this field does not display in Vega or Leap, making these articles impossible to find (unless a staff member views the MARC in Polaris.)

Also, 773 subfield $t is not indexed so these records are not findable by a title search for the parent journal, only by searching the title and/or author…

  8. Add the "You Saved" amounts (either this year or lifetime) to my account in Vega. We have this for patrons who checkout at staff station from Leap but sadly not available in our SIP connected Self Checks. Would be great to highlight this for patrons.

  9. Google translate currently works on Vega, but there is not a way to add the plug in to the header. Vega only has a limited amount of language translations built into the site. We want to give our patrons the ability to translate the site into additional languages.

  11. Currently, when I library is temporarily closed for a renovation, we noticed different behavior in Discover vs. the PAC when it comes to default pickup location. We think the way it used to work is better.

In Discover that patrons registered to that library (who have no preferred pick up location) set on their profile... Discover will default to the first one alphabetically. This is a problem for us as a consortium because now patrons are clicking through and sending things to the library that starts with A for pickup. Yes, they can select another one, but most will just…

  12. A patron that has signed in on the main Vega site or any collection site should remain signed in when linking to another collection site (unless the library has specifically limited sign in to an individual site). Currently, when an authenticated patron clicks to view another collection site, they lose their authentication. Patrons are not aware that they are on a completely separate site and are then confused when clicking on "My Bookshelf" does nothing. If they click on their account at the top of the page, they are prompted to sign and and are then authenticated without having to…

  13. When in the children's catalog, the Vega & Syndetics sections (Related Resources, Topics, etc) in the records should ideally only display children's titles. As an example, right now, when I pull up the Diary of a Wimpy Kid DVD, I'm seeing the Where'd You Go Bernadette DVD under Related Resources and A Man Called Otto DVD in Topics. We don't want to direct children toward adult titles.

It would actually be great to also be able to hide any adult items from Related Resources, Topics, etc. anytime a record for children's material is being viewed, whether in the main Vega…

  14. In the kid’s catalog version of Vega Discover for consortium use we are currently unable to neatly organize the location codes needed to limit the content to solely JUV materials. There can be many JUV codes in use for a single library which can be confusing for the patron if they’re looking for a specific library in the Locations facet.

Level 1 (library) codes do not appear in the Locations facet, even if the Level 2 (branch) codes are nestled under them. Being able to have a single location option for each library would be beneficial for the patron’s experience…

  15. Our library serves a very diverse patron base, and, while some commonly spoken languages are represented in Vega already, there are a few missing that we'd love to see added to better represent our demographics, if possible. The languages are Hindi, Urdu, Arabic, Tagalog, and Portuguese. I see someone else here has already requested Arabic and Urdu, so hopefully this helps too!

  16. We would like to have some logging of when a customer signs into Vega. This would help us troubleshoot certain transactions the customer may have issues with. It would also provide counts for other types of usage reports pertaining to Vega usage.

  17. Allow patrons to search results based on Polaris items' loan period codes.

This will also allow Vega showcases to be created for popular items with unique loan periods.

  19. When someone clicks on the author name for an item, they should be brought to a search result that shows all items by that author available in their library system. Currently, we're brought to a page that looks like what I've attached and it's quite annoying to try and view everything and look for availability. If a patron is looking for information about an author, they're not likely to go looking in the library catalog. They should be able to click the author's name and see everything the author has written that's available in their library system as though they…

  20. This is more for library staff, but when searching by a standard number for a specific format, to have the search results land on the correct tab in rollup. For example, searching an ISBN for an e-resource will currently take to rollup but the book tab selected and not on the e-resource tab.
