  1. We have many bib records with no items available (Lost, Missing, etc). Unfortunately these still show up in "similar item" suggestions in the catalog.

Currently if you click on one it takes you to a 404 page.

Once on the 404 page, you can't simply click back to go to where you were, since that seems to take you to a page that forwards you back to the 404. The only way to go back is if you hold down the back button to go back 2 pages (which many users will not know.)

    Example of the issue:

  2. Items that have zero item records but have Polaris SHRs on "Not currently Received " status show that they are "on shelf" at the branches with the SHRs even though there are no items at any of the branches. This had lead to patrons coming in looking for standing orders/ serial titles etc. that are not there.

  3. Right now, when you search something like Jane Eyre (see screenshot), which has multiple editions, some of which are part of a "series", Vega Discover arbitrarily displays one of those series statements in the roll-up. We would like it to NOT display the series info when it doesn't apply to all editions of a work, since the roll-up is supposed to reflect what all the editions have in common, not just one particular edition's series info. It could likely make the user think, incorrectly, that if they place a hold, they will get that edition in that series, when in…

  4. Please index 245 subfield c for Vega searching. This would allow for broader author retrieval, especially when the name on the work doesn't match the controlled heading. For instance, "Tomb of Sand" cannot be retrieved by searching the author, Geetanjali Shree, as shown of the cover (and in 245 subfield c) because the controlled heading (100 field) is Gītāñjali, Śrī.

  5. Subject headings are one of the most important tools in the librarians' search arsenal to successful searching.

  6. Our library serves a very diverse patron base, and, while some commonly spoken languages are represented in Vega already, there are a few missing that we'd love to see added to better represent our demographics, if possible. The languages are Hindi, Urdu, Arabic, Tagalog, and Portuguese. I see someone else here has already requested Arabic and Urdu, so hopefully this helps too!

  7. Within the account view, allow patrons to select multiple holds. Provide the ability to bulk cancel / bulk freeze / bulk unfreeze the selected titles.

  8. Currently in the PAC, patrons are allowed to create a special username in place of library card barcode to sign in and use the account. However, Vega Discover does not have the functionality to go into My Bookshelf for example, and create a username for their account within the patron's settings. Is this functionality that can be added to the newer catalog in order to ensure that all patrons can have access to that feature?

  9. Vega only displays the first series tag (490, 800|t, 830) in a bibliographic record. There are many scenarios where a title may have multiple series tags for good reason. ALL series tags should display. A work may be titled the Boxcar children collection 3 and contain various volumes of the Boxcar children series, each tagged individually. To only display the first series tag (vol. 89) is misleading. There are also many instances of a popular numbered series also being part a publisher genre series (example for Iced by Felix Francis: Francis novels ; bk. 10 and Thorndike Press large print…

  10. We received an idea to possibly redesign the "Find a Copy" menu so that viewing shelf locations would no longer need the user to click the library that they are searching for resulting in two clicks to see that information.

"You have to click on the library name itself in order to get a full picture of where an item is. It's an extra unnecessary step"

  11. Right now when patrons go to Discover they need to click on the search bar before searching. We suggest it should be like Google (or any other search engine), when the page loads you can start typing your search.

  12. It would be nice if patrons were able to renew OverDrive via Vega or at the very least be provided with some explanation indicating that those interested in attempting to renew a title go directly to the OverDrive/Libby catalog to do so.

  13. I received the following from a school superintendent in our service area, and I think this would be a beneficial enhancement to Vega for students and school staff:

We store the Lexile level in our local student information system. This means that pretty easily, we could show the parents their kid's level, then link to the two local library districts with some instructions on how to filter and search. But as I shared, they still have to do a lot of clicking to get to that screen where they can filter on level and subject.

    So what would the ideal…

  14. When patrons try to place a hold on something they already have placed a hold on, instead of getting a message that they already have a hold, they receive the message,
"Your request for this material was unsuccessful
Couldn't find suitable edition for the request"

We would like to be able to edit this message to let them know they already have a hold and cannot place a second hold on the same record.

  15. Currently, Vega sorts book, eBook, large print, audio CD, and eAudio. I'm proposing we change this to book, large print, audio CD, then digital resources. Most patrons search for digital media via Libby rather than the main online catalog.

Additionally, putting DVDs before Blu-Ray would help lower the amount of patrons accidentally ordering Blu-Ray when they really wanted the DVD. Re-ordering this would lower the amount of accidental hold requests for the wrong media type.

  16. Adding the Scholastic Reading Level to a books within Vega Discover as an option for patrons and staff could prove to be helpful. Scholastic Reading Levels are used in some schools so allowing for that variety can be helpful for patrons to choose items that will be made for them.

  17. This is available in WebPAC and Encore and is the core feature of the message to borrower field in Sierra. Please make this functionality available in Vega, otherwise the point of the message to borrower field is moot.

  18. I think that ingesting name authority records into Vega Discover would improve capturing name tracings in the 400 field, so that for example if Samuel Langhorne Clemens is searched, Mark Twain's works will also appear etc.

  19. Most patrons probably don't add apostrophes when searching (some do, some don't). We suggest it be taken out as a variable effecting the search results in basic search. In advanced search it can be included exactly as typed, but for the basic search it may do more harm than good. Please see the attached examples.
