  1. The 505$t subfield should be included in the title search.

Here is an example of a situation where that is valuable. If a library user is searching for Kurt Vonnegut's "Cat's Cradle" and uses the Title search, they will only find the actual work "Cat's Cradle". However, this book is also contained in short story compilations. They will miss this short story compilation which may better suit their reading needs.

  2. Implement a new function or API endpoint that allows libraries to easily retrieve the structured data (metadata, ID/ISBN, image URL, link) for any active "Showcase". The data should be presented in a standard, machine-readable format like JSON or XML.

While Vega Discover allows us to embed the visual display of a Showcase on other websites, this does not give us the underlying data. This data could be used to include Showcases i mobile apps and integrate with other systems and external analytics tools. They could also be used by patrons to easily keep track of new additions to "permanent" showcases.

  3. Make the two large purple icons, not just the text below them, link to their sections. Especially on mobile, this would be more user friendly. I find myself expecting them to be buttons. Some patrons may have to zoom in to accurately tap the text links.

It could be the icons or even the entire rectangular boxes and everything in them.

  4. Thrilled to be able to create showcases in Vega Discover using ILS lists!

The lists seem to automatically sort to newest title first. We'd like to be able to maintain the sort order from the record set or have sort options once added as a showcase.

  5. Polaris (Leap and PAC) support the ability for a patron to opt to receive both an email AND text message or a phone call AND text message using the "additional text" checkbox feature. However, Vega only supports patrons selecting a single preferred notification method.

Patrons often opt in to dual notifications at registration, but their Discover profile won't reflect the notifications they actually will receive. This is likely to create confusion and frustration for patrons as well as limiting the use of a valuable Polaris feature.

  6. Could the hold position be refined so that a patron from Library A can see their position in line specifically for their home library’s copies? Leap already supports this—when the holds queue is filtered by the patron’s library, it correctly shows the local position.

For example, The Correspondent currently has 426 holds across the consortium. When I place a hold, Vega shows my position as No. 427 (see screenshot 1). However, my home library has several copies, and in Leap my local position is No. 11 (see screenshot 2).

It would be much clearer for patrons if Vega displayed their…

  7. We have noticed that stemming in Vega Discover seems to work mainly for English. For example, ‘history’ also retrieves ‘histories’, but the Swedish word ‘historia’ does not retrieve ‘historier’. Since we are a Swedish library, it is important that stemming also works effectively for Swedish, not only for English.

As stemming can be challenging and sometimes unreliable, truncation is a vital complement. Truncation gives users more control and helps capture all inflected forms or compound variations of a word (which is especially important in Swedish). For example, searching for compounded words with a wildcard (e.g. ‘histor*) would ensure broader and…

  8. Please work with libraries to determine a way to add an "on order" facet. We ingest all bibliographic records before we receive the physical copies. Library users can also place holds on these "on order" bibliographic records. Library users want to distinguish between "recently received" by the library and "recently ordered" by the library.

  9. We currently use English, Chinese, French, Polish and Spanish languages as options in our Vega Discover. While toggling between languages, I noticed that embedded showcase titles remain in English regardless of the language selected (I wasn't expecting it to translate).

Proposed idea: Could there be an option to enter additional languages for Showcase titles that can be pulled when the overall platform language is changed so that native Chinese speakers see the librarian-inputted Chinese Showcase Title instead of the English title? If no alternate language title was entered, it should default to the English language title.

    Thanks for your consideration!

  10. We as a Swedish library have opted out of the "review" option in the Syndetics Unbound integration, as we feel the English reviews do not provide much value to our patrons. It is however not possible to remove the ratings when hovering over a title.

This is annoying as the a short blob of text (in English) appears with the rating, and it isn´t even possible to see the whole text (see attached image).

We feel it should be possible to turn this off.

  11. Vega has a list of the current New York Times best sellers, which shows up on the detailed title page if you view that for one of the titles on the list (see attached screenshot). It would be great to be able to have this showcase on the library's homepage.

  12. I'm trying to make an Accessibility Site/Catalog that focuses on our materials such as large print, braille, and audio. However, you can only use location/shelf location or collection type to as scoping parameters.

It would be lovely to be able to expand the scope to include subject headings, material types, genres, etc.

  13. We have had feedback from customers and staff that they would like the option to pass through to the eResource vendor from the resource record (via the 856). There is a "details" > "Note (electronic)" field that could be hyperlink.

Right now many libraries have their 856 $z or $y in the Note (Hyperlink) field that says something like "Click here..." or "Click link" - but this field is not hyperlinked.

  14. Currently there is only one error message for all eContent errors: no message from overdrive available. This is confusing for when the error is due to the patron not having a Hoopla account.

  16. We have had issues recently where items have been transferred to new bib. records and disappeared from Vega as a result and others where items were deleted and disappeared as expected, but then never reappeared once they were undeleted.

We would like to have a database sync process that can be run which compares the Vega database against the ILS to confirm that everything is in sync - basically a cross-system data integrity check or verification process between systems that would let us know if there was anything that was out of sync so we could investigate and correct it.

  17. We would like for Vega to allow specifying a statistics group w/Sierra REST API requests similar to what the III mobile app does.

Vega has never sent a statistics group with Sierra REST API requests (ex. renewals) and the current behavior is that the request is logged under statistics group 0. We only learned of this - up until recently, the requests were actually falling under the stat group assigned for our Classic WebPAC web transactions.

We would prefer keeping stat group 0 for issues/errors (bad login used for SDA, i.e., no locations served assigned) vs. certain Vega transactions.

  18. We need a way to prevent serial holding record information from displaying in the work card. SHR info is very useful when looking at an individual library's location drawer, but since it can differ from library to library in our consortium is often incorrect when displayed under the shared title. An example is Vogue magazine. Not all of our libraries limit circulation on the current issue, nor do they all keep two years of issues. But because the SHR for the library that is alphabetically first has those limitations in the shared public note and retention designation, it shows under…

  19. This would ensure patrons can put holds on what they can actually checkout, by determiners like their patron type, checkout location and the item’s type. This would reduce frustration, failed requests, and staff intervention. For example, our corporate library collection can only be borrowed by patrons with a Corporate ptype. Currently when a title exists in both the Corporate and general collections and is available to borrow in the general collection, patrons retrieve an “unrequestable” message from Vega if they select to "Request any edition". This occurs correctly for patrons without the required Corporate ptype when they attempt to place…

  20. When you navigate to another page in Vega Discover, we're seeing some confusion with users on how to perform a new search. We wondered if it would be helpful to have the word "Search" underneath the magnifying glass icon in the top right hand corner of the page.
