  1. Patrons have expressed concern that the password reset page doesn’t resemble an MCPL page. One of them called to make sure they weren't being scammed. We have patrons of all levels of tech-savviness using our catalog. We'd love to be able to customize the look of this page or at least add our logo so that patrons aren't confused by the different look, feel, and URL of the password reset page.

  2. Please index 245 subfield c for Vega searching. This would allow for broader author retrieval, especially when the name on the work doesn't match the controlled heading. For instance, "Tomb of Sand" cannot be retrieved by searching the author, Geetanjali Shree, as shown of the cover (and in 245 subfield c) because the controlled heading (100 field) is Gītāñjali, Śrī.

  3. Currently, the behind-the-scenes view of the homepage tells you how many scheduled and unscheduled showcase blocks you have, but not which are which or what their schedules are until you go into the preview. This information would be so useful to have at a glance to help with managing and planning.

    There is room next to the purple type labels for additional useful labels. I'd also stretch out the space allocated for the block titles to make them easier to read.

  4. After the daylight savings time ended in November, our scheduled MARC extractions moved back an hour (from 10 pm to 9 pm).

  5. Introduce an “Author” sort and filter option for items in the Account Portal Overview, specifically for:
    • Current checkouts
    • Active holds
    • Reading history
    This would allow patrons to group and manage their library items more intuitively, especially when they manage multiple accounts and items.

  6. For rollups Vega defaults to the most recent edition which is often a paperback which has less robust information, as we do very minimal cataloging on those. There is no synopsis on the detailed page. In the old catalog, having no summary for a paperback wasn't a huge deal because the annotations gave you enough information. But in Vega, you get nothing at all unless you click on the ebook.

    When there is no 520 data in the most recent edition of a format can we display the summary from Syndetics instead?

With the buttons on the left-hand side (Overview, Account, Checkouts & Requests, Bills & Fines, Bookmarks, Saved Searches), some of them do not provide easy navigation back to the start once you are within that area. For example, I click on Bookmarks and it takes me to the list of my lists. But if I then click into one of the lists, clicking that button doesn't take me back out to all my lists. There is a breadcrumb navigation trail at the top, which is good, but I would also expect the button on the side to take me back…

  8. With Encore we could select how our branches (collections) sorted. With 39 locations this is important to us. Ideally there would be a synch between the patrons "home library" and the top branch, but for now, we would appreciate the ability to sort locations alphabetically. Seeing a differently ordered list after each search reduces usability.

  9. Please enlarge the back button on the resource page. We have several reports from customers that they just don't know what to do when they land on the resource page. There are other ideas to add breadcrumbs on this page or add facets, but can at least the "back" button be more prominent?

  10. We need the ability to hide certain fields in the account portal that we don't have. For instance, we only want one phone number in the account, but we cannot get rid of the second field for phone numbers even though we don't allow updating those fields. Also, since the address is not mapping correctly in our displayed address fields, we would like to hide this so customers are not confused.

  11. Patrons are finding it less intutive to delete items from their saved lists with the "Remove from List" link almost hidden in the very top right corner of the screen.

    Each item in a saved list has a box around the image, the share button and select button are there. We also think the delete button, perhaps as garbage can icon, should be there as well.

    (The "Remove From List" button can still be in the top right, if multiple items are selected, but for one-off deletions it should be easier and more clear how to do it).

In the account portal, use the initial of the account's first name instead of last name and show the name in the format "First Last"--except when there is a nickname, in which case use the nickname. The circled letters seem designed to differentiate between linked accounts, so I can foresee families in which everyone is labelled with the same letter and you can mostly only see the last name.

  13. Hello,
    Vega Discover administrators need a way to identify the software version.
    Why? I find that the upgrade schedule is not always accurate. We are in North America and the upgrade can be delayed by a day, or happens during the middle of the expected day. It would be helpful to have a version stamp somewhere on the site or admin site to help administrators know when they can begin testing the new features.

  14. It would be great to have a way to filter a search by what is actually borrow-able for the user. For instance, I was looking into a request from one of our libraries about placing a hold on a radon testing kit and after bopping around for a few minutes I realized there doesn't seem to be a way to filter a search by what is actually borrow-able for the user, which makes for a frustrating user experience.

  15. Attached is a screenshot of the a search result for the work "found dogs." Our library has three branches: South, Valley Ranch, and West. South's copy is checked out, and Valley and West's copies are on the shelves. The patron has used the location facet to limit to the WEST branch.

    You'll notice that because South's copy is checked out, the branches are listed as:
    +Valley Ranch|+West|xSouth--South is placed at the end even though it's first alphanetically.

    However, the line of text that displays above this is "On shelf at Valley Ranch" because Valley Ranch precedes West alphabetically.

  16. Library staff have asked for the following translations to be made available so that patrons can select them in Vega Discover:

    • Arabic
    • Urdu
    • Korean
    • Russian
    • Telugu
    • Tagalog
    • Bengali
    • Hindi
    • Gujarati

    Many of our libraries serve linguistically diverse populations, but I know that Gujarati, Hindi, and Urdu would be adopted by several of them.

  17. Now that the thumbnail updates based on which tab of the roll-up is selected, if the thumbnail does not exist for that item type, it should display the image that does exist. For example, if the thumbnail exists for the book, but not for the audiobook, when you click on the audiobook tab, the thumbnail should display the book rather than displaying a generic blank image.

  18. When there is a volume field in the item record, show all editions automatically, so that patrons can easily view all options without taking additional steps.

    Right now, when patrons first view the Vega record, they must click "Find a Specific Edition," and then the down arrow, in order to see all editions held in the collection.

  19. We are a special case, with more than 2000 admins. When we need to manage them in Vega staff > Settings > User management we would like to have some kind of sorting by name, or a search box which makes us easier to retrieve the person we are looking for. It would save us a lot of time.

When choosing to sort a list under My Bookshelf (Checkouts, Holds, Reading History), initial articles and punctuation at the beginning of the title (such as quotation marks) are not ignored when sorting alphabetically by title. Could this be changed so that sorting alphabetically by title will follow the MARC record's 245 second indicator, which gives instruction on how many spaces to ignore when filing alphabetically (e.g., 245 second indicator of 4 would be used when "The " is at the beginning of a title)?
