  1. In the account portal, use the initial of the account's first name instead of last name and show the name in the format "First Last"--except when there is a nickname, in which case use the nickname. The circled letters seem designed to differentiate between linked accounts, so I can foresee families in which everyone is labelled with the same letter and you can mostly only see the last name.

(This would only apply when there are multiple accounts. I agree with this idea when there are no linked accounts: https://ideas.iii.com/forums/951766-vega-discover/suggestions/50968153-suppress-the-patron-name-when-account-linking-is-n)

Also, use the first name, or nickname if there…

  2. Patrons with a lengthy reading history are looking for more options to filter objects, for example, by collection or item type. Right now, there is only the ability to sort by title, author, or date of checkout.

  3. The button to choose which graphic novel volume they would like is titled "Request Any Edition," and it seems like it might be more intuitive if the graphic novels said "Request Volume" on the first button, since almost (if not all) of the rollup records for any item say "Request Any Edition." For graphic novels, once you click "Request Any Edition" it has you choose your pickup location, and then it lets you choose the volume/issue.

Having a button that instead says "Request Volume" and have the option before the hold pickup location would be more intuitive for patrons requesting…

  4. When a paperback and a hardcover are rolled up together, Vega seems to default to the paperback information, which is less robust, as we do very minimal cataloging on those. There is no synopsis on the detailed page. In the old catalog, having no summary for a paperback wasn't a huge deal because the annotations gave you enough information. But in Vega, you get nothing at all unless you click on the ebook. Prioritizing the records, or pulling the 520 from any of the rolled up records would be super helpful.

  5. Now that the thumbnail updates based on which tab of the roll-up is selected, if the thumbnail does not exist for that item type, it should display the image that does exist. For example, if the thumbnail exists for the book, but not for the audiobook, when you click on the audiobook tab, the thumbnail should display the book rather than displaying a generic blank image.

  6. When choosing to sort a list under My Bookshelf (Checkouts, Holds, Reading History), initial articles and punctuation at the beginning of the title (such as quotation marks) are not ignored when sorting alphabetically by title. Could this be changed so that sorting alphabetically by title will follow the MARC record's 245 second indicator, which gives instruction on how many spaces to ignore when filing alphabetically (e.g., 245 second indicator of 4 would be used when "The " is at the beginning of a title)?

  7. Currently, the summary from the 520 field is displaying on the full resource card and dynamically updating by format, which is great. However, the subfield c is hidden, so anytime there is a subfield c present, there are simply two dashes at the end of the summary, suggesting that there might be something missing or cut off (which there is, in fact). Can the subfield c please be displayed along with the summary?

  8. Could you please add support for a single configuration field where we can paste our Google Analytics Measurement ID (tracking key)? Ideally, this would be a dialog box or settings field in the admin/back-end interface that automatically injects the Google Analytics script across the site once the key is provided.

This will allow us to manage our own Google Analytics account without requiring us to write custom scripts to go in page footers, etc.

  9. Magazine issues do not display in the My Bookshelf checkouts and holds. If someone checks out many issues over a period of a couple of days or weeks, they have no idea which issue may be overdue or coming due.

  10. In the account portal the 3rd option on the left includes Checkouts & Holds & Reading History. There is not enough space for those 3 terms. The text will not wrap. If the text cannot wrap, can we have a separate option for "Reading History". We have had many customers ask if that could be on a separate page.

  11. The amount of characters for the title and author names is limited (exact number seems to vary) and they are therefore not being completely displayed in Showcases. Can this be increased so in more cases the full title and name is displayed?

  12. When multiple copies of an item are assigned to the same library branch, the location drawer appears to list them in order of item record ID within the same location (this is also the case in our classic Polaris PAC, not sure how it is in Sierra). We have had feedback from front-line staff that they would like to see copies in Available status listed first, with copies in other statuses listed below. This reasoning makes a lot of sense to me. If a patron is opening the location drawer, it's because they want to know where the item is…

  13. It would be great to have a way to filter a search by what is actually borrow-able for the user. For instance, I was looking into a request from one of our libraries about placing a hold on a radon testing kit and after bopping around for a few minutes I realized there doesn't seem to be a way to filter a search by what is actually borrow-able for the user, which makes for a frustrating user experience.

  14. When there is a volume field in the item record, show all editions automatically, so that patrons can easily view all options without taking additional steps.

Right now, when patrons first view the Vega record, they must click "Find a Specific Edition," and then the down arrow, in order to see all editions held in the collection.

  15. In the patron record checkouts it would be useful if the renew button would disappear completely if the item out has existing holds on it (like it does in the powerpac now). Why give the illusion you can renew something to then just be denied?

  16. Several of our libraries collect materials in Hebrew, and almost all of those items have a danacode as a unique identifier. Some also have an ISBN but many don't, and their only identifier is the danacode, which is found in the 024 (with first indicator 7 in most cases, but sometimes 8 when the 'scannable' danacode is listed also).

However, when you try to search Vega by danacode, it doesn't work. It works without any problems in Polaris and in the old PAC.

A previous idea that was completed (for 024 3) stated: "As we see it, the obvious solution…

  17. Attached is a screenshot of the a search result for the work "found dogs." Our library has three branches: South, Valley Ranch, and West. South's copy is checked out, and Valley and West's copies are on the shelves. The patron has used the location facet to limit to the WEST branch.

You'll notice that because South's copy is checked out, the branches are listed as:
+Valley Ranch|+West|xSouth--South is placed at the end even though it's first alphanetically.

However, the line of text that displays above this is "On shelf at Valley Ranch" because Valley Ranch precedes West alphabetically.

    We propose…

  18. The current wording for the cookies is not clear to patrons. Clicking on "Manage Cookie Preferences" displays a pop-up that doesn't actually give the user any option to manage their preferences. It also includes some wording that says "the types of cookies we use are described below" without actually describing them. At the very least, a clearer description about what the strictly necessary cookies are that are being used would be helpful.

  19. Please enlarge the back button on the resource page. We have several reports from customers that they just don't know what to do when they land on the resource page. There are other ideas to add breadcrumbs on this page or add facets, but can at least the "back" button be more prominent?

  20. Vega BibFrame should consider the 260$c field when matching for roll-up in visual media as often it's the determining indicator between two different versions of film. For example, see "The Italian Job" ... both are Hollywood, CA, Paramount pictures but in different years (1969 and 2003) but because the matchin doesn't consider the $c field, they roll up with each other even though they're very different films.
