  1. In System>Parameters>Notification>Notification Options>Overdue & Bill, I would like to see the "Include Claimed Items" broken out into individual notification options for Claims Returned, Claims Never Had, and Missing Part. As of now, if this option is selected, notices will go out for all or nothing regarding these claims. I would like to only send notices for Missing Part items and not the other two. My reasoning is I do not want to continue to send notices for items I consider "resolved" when a patron says they returned something or that they never had it. However, I do want to continue…

  2. Please allow libraries to limit online registrations by their selected geographic location (state, county, city, zip code, etc.). We have too many people signing up that are outside our location and then using the resources which eats up our budget thus robbing our true patrons from their share of the resources.

We currently have to comb through the registrations and find the "out of area" one and manually delete them. Would be better to prevent them in the first place. Never goodwill to give and then have to take away.

This will help Library staff and Library patrons.

  4. Add a link generator to the Record Set application. There's way too much room for error in expecting staff to create a custom URL every time we need a record set. It would make sense to have it near the Export function under the Actions menu. Thanks for considering!

  5. In our Retain/Delete table we remove certain subject headings with specific indicators. When we save a Bib record, the Remote Authority Control checks EVERY heading then removes the tags marked for deletion and checks the headings again.

It'd be more efficient, time-wise, if Polaris deleted the tags first, then perform the Remote Authority Control.

  6. A request for an enhancement from our Homebound Services (Outreach) department: In Reading History, it would be beneficial to generate an alert (has had) from the Reading History when placing a hold, not during check out of the item. Presently, the current setting notifies staff at check out whether the patron has had the title already.

  7. The multiple holds feature in Leap is really nice - unless you want to make sure that a bib you're selecting is actually the thing you want, the need for a preview option has been suggested in another Idea Exchange submission.

Another common use for multiple holds is creating what we at DPL call "Teacher Sets" where staff pull a bunch of topical items based on criteria provided by a teacher, place holds on them and then check them in to fill those requests and contact the customer.

Right now this is really clunky. Since there is no option to…

  8. When sorting by a column, then choosing an item and hitting located, it resets the sort back to the default.

This is not ideal at our larger locations who may be pulling dozens of items at a time.

  9. There are times when we could easily fix bib records via SQL but may run into issues where the index may no longer be valid and the updated bib records may not appear or be omitted in search results. Instead of requesting for a FULL database re-index, we could easily group the involved records into a Record Set and use Bulk Change with a "Miscellaneous" tab with the option "Re-index Bibliographic Records".

  10. When using a record set, it would be helpful if there was a column that shows when the item was added to the record set. We use record sets to create carousels that show new items on our PAC. The date added to record set would be helpful so we could remove the oldest things when refreshing our carousels.

  11. Our site manager said this was a previous long-standing enhancement request and suggested I check here and vote on it. I can't find anything that matches, so am starting an idea.

We have several patrons at different branches placing holds on items they already checked out so as to bypass our unwritten guideline of leaving items available to others for 24 hours before being checked out again. Now, for older items this isn't a problem and staff are allowed to make exceptions, but this practice is becoming a issue. We do allow one renewal, but apparently this isn't enough for…

  13. One of our member libraries have displayed interest in having the option to include the ability to attach multiple patron barcodes onto one patron record. The want for this is due to the interest of adding collectible library cards to their location. They also spoke to another library uses the Sierra ILS. It was stated that their ILS has that functionality already.

  14. In a consortium setting or just a large, multi-branch, library system, the most efficient hold preference setting may not be the same for both sequences.

We currently have to pick the hold preference setting that is necessary to meet our consortium’s policies in the secondary sequence, but is redundant in the primary sequence. It would improve patron experience and reduce unnecessary shipping if we could impose different settings for each of the sequences.

  15. Some library staff need to be able to alter the label margin and font size for longer call numbers, longer author names, and longer titles, as well as how the printer prints that day. Currently, staff using Leap need to go back and forth between the Client and Leap to do so. Adding the label settings that are only accessible in the Client to Leap will make it easier for staff to make the transition to Leap by allowing them to maintain their workflow for their current printers.

  16. Our library went fines free, but still charge patrons if they place a hold, but do not come in to pick it up. We don't want to charge them to place the hold, but do want to charge if we transit the item, make it available, but they don't come get it. In lieu of fines, this is a major revenue stream for us. We are migrating to Polaris and are surprised to learn it does not offer this functionality. Please consider adding this!

  17. Currently when a patron replaces their library card and gets a new barcode, staff have to manually reconnect them with their Libby account, which is connected to their old card number. This update should be automated so that patrons who lose their library cards don't also lose access to Libby or other eResources. I'm not sure if this would require an update to the API (?)

  18. Have a holds notification at checkout tell what library the item, or items, are being held at.

Scenario: A patron who is not our patron is visiting our library and has holds on our holds shelf. They come to the desk with books to checkout. The notification that we get now is something like "patron has 3 holds at a library other than their home library of Potsdam" This does not signal to me to check my shelf, it could be any library. In the test LEAP we had, it would tell me "patron has 2 books held in Waddington…

  19. Item editing permission organizations are based on the Owning Branch of an item. However, permissions for item editing through the checkout page ('Manage Item Dialogs') are based on the item's Assigned Branch (as well as the check-in branch matching the assigned branch).

We think it makes sense for both these permissions to be aligned to the Owning Branch, otherwise it can leave room for inappropriate changes. For instance, in our consortia some items are owned by one library but lent to others (assigned to their libraries), and this gap has led to item changes by staff that shouldn't have had…

  20. Currently, when the If patron is blocked: Block in PAC/SIP option under the Staff Client and PAC tab of the Hold Options parameter is enabled, patrons are only blocked from placing a request if they exceed the hold limits for their Patron Code.

We would like for this blocking to also include the 2nd level fine amount, similar to how their request would be blocked in the staff client/Leap when the Block in Staff Client option is enabled.
