  1. Staff cannot change the hold pickup location if a hold was placed more than 180 days in the past (perhaps the hold is frozen, there is a long hold queue, or the book publishing date was delayed). Essentially this means that once past 180 days, Staff cannot manage the hold. We don't want to cancel the hold and then apply an arbitrary "Not Needed Before date".

    Idea Value
Many Idea Lab tickets request the ability to batch change hold pickup location or change the pickup location of items with a status of "on the hold shelf". This is another instance…

  2. At present, a general search on Sierra brings up all records whether suppressed or unsuppressed. The plus sign next to the search button allows filtering of these results by material type, language, collection etc. but there is no way to just return records for unsuppressed bibliographic records or unsuppressed items. Having the ability to search for unsuppressed bibliographic records means that you do not then have to trawl through copious irrelevant records to find the desired record.

    Idea Value
    It will speed up searching.

  3. Enhance the URL Checker so that it does not check suppressed records

    Idea Value
When downloading or importing a group of records, they sometimes have many extra URL's or 856 fields in them. Some other fields such as subjects also have nlm url's in them and one of the publisher fields has a publisher url in it. It can take time to clean up this records but the URL Checker checks before they are ready for public viewing. This wastes time going through the URL Checker and ignoring these false positives. It would be a good enhancement for all libraries…

  4. Even if III isn't able to provide a full-fledged editing interface for Load Profiles, add a mode in which we can view Load Profiles and Put PC to back them up. That's so much easier than having to setup FTP to the site, which our IT prohibited when I first gave up on it. This should apply to both m2btabs and m2bmaps.

    Idea Value
Make it possible to backup load profiles on PC, which would enable much easier documentation of the variety of load tables and maps, and the load profile menu.

  5. The patron record payment lock time should be reduced or have the ability to be overridden. Four hours is an excessive amount of time for a record to be locked. If a patron record is open for more than, say, 15 minutes (or even 5 minutes), the other session is probably not in the midst of making a payment.

    Idea Value
Patron record locks are unexpected and embarrassing for staff that encounter them when the patron is in front of them wanting to pay or have a fine, fee, or other charge paid or waived. The patron is confused and…

  6. I would like a function that would move a file to a correct sized list automatically. You just press this button and it moves the file to the smallest open file that will fit your list. It would automatically empty the original file and select the new one.

    Idea Value
We frequently have to move lists because they turn out to be smaller than expected, and we want to put them in a better sized file. This is possible with the copy function, but then you have to go back and empty the original file. This is cumbersome.

  7. Resurrecting Sam Cook's Level Up idea to Go to full patron account from patron review file results.

As Sam noted in the earlier challenge, library staff regularly run patron lists in Create Lists, and need to see something (and usually modify something!) about their checkouts, holds, or fines, which are not available/editable when opening from a review file (Note: You can edit basic record fields, but not access checkouts, holds, fines, etc.). This is particularly frustrating when you run a list of patrons with fines and want to go in and waive fines, for example. You can double-click/open the patron…

  8. Currently there are no alerts when indexing stops working. We would like to see some put in place.

We recently had our keyword indexing stop working. It wasn't completely obvious to us for few months that there was a problem with indexing as it didn't seem to be every record.

    Idea Value
Having an alert to III would save time troubleshooting if it's a metadata problem and raising tickets for something that could have an alert on it.

  9. The Load Tables are a critical point for any data management of a library. While many functions and features have been migrated from character-based system access to web access or within the SDA, this feature has not changed. Programming with what seems like a unix-based editor reminds me of the "dark ages" of programming.

    Idea Value
Many times the syntactical error or omission of a line in my load table editing sessions happen because of the UNIX-like environment where editing takes place. Increased modernization of the editor would streamline the process.

This idea was selected for development from the All Systems Go challenge.

Design of this enhancement is underway. I will provide an update when we have determined which release will include this enhancement.
