  1. After creating a site in the site configuration, you can limit to a specific location like main library or branch library. I would like to be able to chose all of our locations but be able to specify a "home" library which would reorder the collection location identical to when you log in to an account. This "home library" would still show all the locations having copies but would reorder them giving a specific location preference. You could also use this to select and display specific hours and info in the library info window. I'm thinking of this for an…

  4. While testing out editing patron information in Vega, we ran across an issue. The mobile phone number field in the patron record edit maps to the 'o' field which we use in Sierra as a parent name field. It would make more sense to map to 'p' (telephone2) for us.

    Current Workflow

    1. The patron logs into Vega Discover.
    2. From their profile, they edit their information to add/edit a Mobile phone number.
    3. That phone number is mapping to Sierra's 'o' field

  5. We are using the alias in the patron record in Sierra (field group tag c). This field group is indexed in the barcode-index, and patrons can use the alias for logging in to the patron account. The alias can also be used for logging in to the computers at the libraries and also for checking out e-media.

Setting/changing the nickname in Vega has no correlation to the alias in Sierra and only works for logging into Vega.

We fear this might be a bit confusing for our patrons.
So we think changing the nickname in Vega should also insert/update the…

  6. We have the ability to see item availability within grid view on the regular Vega Discover site, but will not see that on the grid view within the customized Kids'/Themed (Kiosk) page. Please incorporate this for ease of visability within Kids'/Themed homepages. I've attached two screenshots showing the green/red boxes on a regular Vega Discover grid view versus the Kids'/Themed view.

  7. When a patron goes into a list of bookmarks, the default sort order is oldest first. I would prefer it if the resources I just added appear at the top of the list without having to scroll or re-sort.

  8. I have had a couple of libraries ask me about this:

will we be able to use the abbreviations from advanced search like in Encore in Vega? i.e. c:117 limits to my library, f:a. I use that all the time to help patrons and find resources quicker both in Sierra and Encore.

    For further clarity:

Some libraries like to use the shortcut codes—once you know them, it’s faster and easier than using the facets to narrow down your search.

In her example, she’s using the Encore advanced search, limiting the format to books and to her collection. When you do…

  9. We are still at the stage where we have to request search statistics, and the data is somewhat limited in nature:

Currently, the two types of statistical overviews available are:

    1. A count of all visits* to any page over the desired time period.

    2. A count of all visits* to search results that were done over the desired time period.

*The reports don't call them visits; they are called visitors. No idea if they are unique visitors?

There are pageviews (down in lower right of screen shot) but support staff doesn't always include this information, seem to focus on just sending…

  13. One of our member libraries mentioned this as a possible feature request for Vega Discover.

They stated, "A great would be if you can click the library name to display item availability if under the location drop down if you can also display the library address and phone number. This would make it easy to click the phone number to call the library to check on real time status of an item for patrons etc. Very useful for staff and patrons!

Let's also have the library address be a clickable link that hops into google maps to navigate to the…

  14. It would be very helpful for staff when assisting patrons searching for materials in other languages if the 240 field with the original title in English was also displayed in the brief search results so the staffer could easily and quickly identify the title in English that the patron is searching for in the other language.

  16. If a patron searches Vega and gets zero results, can the results page say something like, "Can't find what you're looking for? Try Link+"

See an example from another library's catalog that does this.

  17. We have the ability to turn off "Other books in the series" in our Syndetics settings which turns off the gray covers for items not owned in that section, but unfortunately we have no way to turn off just the "Similar Series" section of "You May also Like" without also turning off the "Top Picks" for individual titles in the "You May also Like" section. We would like "Top Picks" to be separate from "Similar Series" in the settings for "You May Also Like" so we can turn off one without turning off the other.

  18. Some of our patrons, those who are teachers or book club leaders, for example, borrow multiple copies of the same title on their library account. They need to control the return of such materials and do so by barcode. Unfortunately, Vega Discover doesn't display the item barcode in the Checkouts information in My Bookshelf. Please add the item barcode# to the Checkouts data in My Bookshelf.

  20. We've had a few questions from patrons regarding cancelled holds not displaying on Vega but showing up on their classic Polaris PAC account screen. We'd like this feature on Vega as well as possibly explore the option to allow patrons to resign back up for the holds queue from that same screen (much like you do with a suspended held item). Thanks!
