  1. : In its current configuration, a "display" shelf location can be used to indicate an item has been placed on display. However, changing this shelf location is a semi-permanent change and when the display comes down staff must change the location codes, either manually or through a record set, to the original location. Because displays are often very popular, this often results in items being checked out and returned. Without markings on the books that indicate they're on a temporary display, these items are often reshelved in their original location while their Polaris record indicates they're still on display, hindering…

  2. Currently, patrons receive a default email message when their hold is cancelled. It would be great for staff to have the ability to enter a reason or write a brief message letting the patron know why their hold was cancelled.

  3. From time to time, we have need to place all items on a record set on hold to call them in for a specific purpose. It would be great to have the ability to select all or some items within a record set and click a place hold button and then have the option to move the request for each of these items to the top of queue.

  4. I often get requests to have a pop-up for staff when last copy, or more especially a last copy with a hold, gets put into a status like withdrawn, missing, etc. It could provide a big head's up to selectors so they could preemptively tackle.

    This would provide better customer service. Last copies with holds that were being discarded, etc. could be more immediately addressed to order replacement, contact patron, or submit to ILL.

While there are many advantages to way that Polaris calculates TOMs, there are currently some significant limitations for differentiating between formats. 4K BluRays, Playaways/Yotos, and video game systems are all very difficult to distinguish from one another when using only the MARC fixed fields. Additionally, many libraries are expanding their collections with Libraries of Things that are usually coded as "Kit" or "Three Dimensional Object" rather than describing what it actually is. These bib TOMS are also now featured prominently in Vega Discover's rollups.

  6. It would be very useful for patron notes to automatically include date and time - this would allow us to track "updates" to progressive situations with patrons that multiple staff are addressing.

  7. To have the ability to choose what columns are used in record sets. This would be useful for daily inventory of items that we would need to know the due dates or other values. Currently, record sets are locked into a standard set of columns, some of which, most of us have no use for.

  8. SimplyReports offers only one format when downloading the results of a report, and that is a questionably formatted xls file that always throws a warning when opening in Microsoft Excel. Microsoft left the xls format behind almost 15 years ago when they launched the xlsx format in Excel 2007.   9. We'd like to have a way to place multiple holds at once. The existing multiple holds option doesn't quite do that as it still requires re-entering the title and selecting it for each copy needed while in the holds area of an account. For a book club, for example, it would be much faster and easier to select a title to hold and have a way to say we want 15 copies from this bib record, rather than have to select it title 15 times.

  10. When an item hold has the status of Not-Supplied, if this item then becomes available eg if a a lost item is returned, the not-supplied status doesn't automatically retrigger the hold.
    Currently you have to go in and manually reactive the hold.

  11. Record sets that are owned by staff remain in the system forever if those owners don't clean them up. We would like Administrators to have co-ownership of those sets.

  12. The "Recent" tab in the Leap Workform Tracker lists recently-accessed patron, item, and bibliographic records. Now that additional record types are available in Leap, it would be helpful to have additional record types listed in the "Recent" tab, including but not limited to:InvoicesPurchase OrdersRecord Sets

    The "Recent" tab in the workform tracker is a helpful tool that allows staff to easily reopen records that have been recently closed. Adding additional record types to the recent tab would be helpful for all staff, especially technical services staff that are transitioning to Leap.

  13. In LEAP, please add the ability for a user to create a bibliographic record set from a file of ISBNs or Control Numbers..

  14. Currently in Leap there is no equivalent Bibliographic Title search to the "Exact match (implicitly truncated)" in the Polaris Client. The Leap search "Bibliographic>BasicSearch>Title>Exact ()" doesn't utilize the Initial Articles entries in the Bib record so any title search with a "The" or "A" or "An" in the title are not returned in the search results. This has caused a push back to adoption since the very real perception is that Leap has inferior search capabilities. I'm not sure why the the "Bib Exact ()" search requires staff to strip out the A, An & The initial article…

    This idea is outside of our agreed upon Idea Graduation Workflow, but because it was just raised in the most recent rount of MEEP voting, I'm going to keep it open for another cycle. Moving to "Under Review" status.

  15. Many libraries like to call attention to their genre fiction through the use of spine label stickers and icons. For instance, science fiction items may feature an image of a grey alien, mysteries have a magnifying glass or a skull and crossbones, and westerns use a cowboy or a horse or something similar. The thing is, there's no reason a library couldn't print the icons on the spine labels themselves using emoji.

    🐴 = Western

    💀 = Mystery

    🦄 = Fantasy

    🏰 = Historical Fiction

    And so on. However, the Polaris Label Manager barely supports any…

  16. In Polaris staff have the ability to tap ENTER to close a check out. In Leap, staff must select COMPLETE with the mouse to close the transaction.

  17. We would like an optional field in the patron record for preferred pronouns. This field should be available at the top of all patron registration views near Last name, First name, Title etc. It should be available to display on the Patron Status and Check-out screens via System Administration under Parameters, Patron Services, Check-out: Optional patron data. We would also like to be able to display it on phone notices, but not mailers.

  19. The Problem

    At best, the method and workflow used to bulk import patrons into Polaris (often referred to as student import) is archaic. The Polaris documentation for this process, Importing Student Records as Patron Records, is 19 pages long and seven of those pages are definitions and descriptions for the format of a pipe delimited file. This file contains 65 separate columns, all of which must be included in the file even if they contain no information. The documentation defines at least three columns that you should not populate… so why are they there? You can obtain a sample Excel…

  20. Currently item barcodes are not included on the billing notices. We double check the shelves for billed items prior to mailing the bill to the patron. Often we have multiple copies of the item. To ensure that the bill is accurate and the items are truly missing, we have to take the other copies to the circulation desk and double check their status. This is time consuming, inefficient and occurs frequently. Item barcodes are include on the overdue notices. I would like to see them included on the billing notice too.
