  1. Persistent Column Resizing in Summary Tab:

Currently, users can resize columns in the Summary Tab (Orders, Items, and Holdings) during a session. However, these adjustments are not retained after the session ends, requiring users to reapply their preferred column sizes each time they log in.

I propose an enhancement to allow users to permanently save column resizing preferences across sessions. This feature would greatly improve usability and efficiency by enabling a more customized and consistent interface tailored to individual workflows.

This enhancement would benefit users who frequently manage data within the Summary Tab by reducing repetitive actions and ensuring a…

  2. Currently, authentication using the NCIP protocol does not update the CIRCACTIVE attribute in the patron account. We use this protocol to authenticate to a statewide ILL service and we'd like to know when cards are being used in this union catalog and not just our own.

We use CIRCACTIVE to determine which cards are being used and which ones aren't. This is useful for statistical purposes, but is also linked to our patron database purge process.

  3. We currently have staff at a number of branches testing Mobile Worklists. More than one location has requested the ability for users to increase font sizes for displayed characters in title paging lists & elsewhere throughout the app. Hopefully this could be tied to their login, so settings are not constantly in need of a reset between users of shared devices.

  4. We have had a number of instances recently in which a vendor has requested SQL access in order for us to utilize there services. We are hesitant to allow for that (and have policies against it) due to the quantity of secure data that would also provide access to.

What we need is a way to provide lesser SQL access to particular users to allow them to tap into only the relevant tables (bibs & items for some. Circ_trans and patrons for others).

Beyond the vendor scenario it would also be fantastic to provide limited access to more of our…

  5. As ILS administrators of a large consortium, we would like the RFID Server Options Table to have an additional field/column to add notes (library name, dates, staff initials). When one of our member libraries needs to change RFID entries, we sort through nearly 200 lines to determine which one needs updating. Many entries use IPs without identifying library information. We must read through old library correspondence to discern which IPs belong to the library. This task takes up valuable time when we are trying to assist a library with troubleshooting or adding and removing entries.

    An additional free-text field to…

  7. Intergrating Sierra with IMMS, Sierra does not show the placement information from IMMS on item records. In particular, when the items are stored in chaotic placements such as hold shelves. This means that looking for an item on a hold shelf or other chaotic type location in Sierra, the user has to copy the barcode from Sierra to IMMS to pin point it's known location.

With further integration, it would be great to see placement information in Sierra to assist staff with helping customers find items on hold shelves in particular.

  8. Many libraries are creating individual logins for each staff member. Staff needs the ability to change their password in case they forget it. At this point, they need to be logged into the SDA to change their password which doesn't help if they can't remember it.

  9. Sierra now supports SAML for authenticating staff, but still allows users to authenticate without MFA using the less secure Sierra legacy authentication method. Sierra should allow administrators to require SAML authentication instead of always allowing users to choose SAML or Legacy.

  10. I understand that III is planning to incorporate AI functionality into the Vega platform (newsletter text, website content, etc...). I think it would be really useful to have AI data cleanup functionality developed for Sierra.

I'm not sure exactly what this would look like but here are some potential ways this could improve catalog metadata:
    - catalog record cleanup (bad codes, incorrect codes, codes inconsistent with local practices for similar records, etc...)
    - patron record cleanup (bad codes, codes inconsistent with similar-type accounts, etc...)
    - automatic tagging of demographic (we use one of the patron codes to indicate reciprocal library…

  11. Our library would like the option to have the return address for bills reflect the address of the patron's home library (as defined in the patron record) rather than the owning location of the item. The current setup (using the owning location of the first item on the bill) means that when patrons check out items sent from another branch to fill a hold, they can receive a bill from a library that they may never have been to. While patrons can visit any of our locations to resolve a bill, we would prefer the bill to reflect their local…

  12. Duplicate instances of a single item frequently appear on Bib Paging Lists resulting in confusion and either wasted paper (up to 7 pages were printed for a single item once) or wasted time deleting those lines before printing. There is no need for the paging list to alert us to multiple holds for any item, especially if we can't physically fulfill those holds.

  13. We need to increase the number of characters allowed for the username - currently a maximum of 12. We prefer to keep our Sierra usernames the same as a user's network login name (one less thing to remember). Anything over 12 characters forces us to make a different Sierra username that fits within the Sierra parameters.

  14. Passkeys are both easier for people to use and safer than using passwords and PINs. Passkeys allows users to sign in to their account using the same mechanism they use to unlock their device - fingerprint, face recognition, etc. There are a couple of good introductions to the benefits of Passkeys over traditional username/password credentials here:

  15. I was asked recently to create a list of items added to the database based on a fund code. I don't believe that I can do that in Create Lists. This is because order records and item records have no common field to link them.

I also cannot use Create Lists to pivot item records to their attached order records or vice versa.

We need to be able to do this because 1 bibliographic records may have items attached that were purchased from different funds. Example. 1 Fiction title may have items purchased from an ARP (automatice release program), and…

  16. We'd like the ability to customise the font size of the text in Sierra popup messages i.e, increase font of where items are going to be picked up, or making the destination in the top part of the message stand out? Or removing call number which we do not use.

  17. Following Disney's lead of recycling years old ideas for theme park attractions, I'd like to see an idea I'd had while working with a former employer brought to fruition in Sierra. We had been using Millennium at the time & the Circ Product Manager had gotten to a point in development that there was a near-working model on III's test environment (I've got screenshots & even a Captivate video somewhere), but I left that employer & the III product manager left III & the idea was abandoned. Sure, it's not as exciting as Disney's announced "Villains Land" or a boat…

  18. Libraries should have the option to exclude frozen holds from the total holds queue that appears in any catalogue.

    Benefits:

    1) Customers will have a better idea of where they are in the hold queue.
We encourage customer-driven hold management, and customers have told us that they want an estimate of when their holds will be filled.
This is especially true when customers place multiple hold on titles within a series.

    2) Customers will not see inflated hold queues and provide feedback to the Library that they should purchase more copies.

    3) Customers could make an education decision on whether…

  19. Currently Sierra permission 109, update uncataloged records, is tied to whether or not the bib record has a CDATE (no catalog date) field. It would be great if permission 109 could be customized by a library to be controlled by another option outside of just the presence of the CDATE field. For example, we use field 31 to control the level of cataloging of a record (including full MARC) and to suppress the bib. It would be helpful if we could tie the codes from that field to this permission. It's worth mentioning that permission 109 and the presence of…

  20. Libraries using SIP2 connections for self-checks cannot have due slips that have "You Saved" information because the Item Price field is not available via SIP2.

While due slips with this information can be used at a staff station with the SDA, as more and more libraries move to self-check, the lack of this field's availability in SIP2 is a barrier.

Use case: a library has a self-check machine that uses SIP2 and wants to include "You Saved" information on their due slips.
