  1. We've begun leveraging the "ExternalID" field in Polaris to integrate staff authentication with Google using our Google Workspace email addresses. During this process, we've encountered matching errors when updating existing Polaris accounts that share email addresses with previously deleted user accounts.

It would be extremely helpful if, when a Polaris staff account is deleted, the associated ExternalID is automatically cleared to prevent these conflicts. Additionally, when an error does occur due to a duplicate ExternalID, a clearer error dialog that identifies the conflicting PolarisUserID would greatly assist in resolving the issue quickly.

  2. Currently, when we turn over weeding lists to staff to pull, they manually mark 'not on shelf - NOS' if they don't find the item. In order to make the new weeding list functional in LEAP, we need the weeding record sets to have the same sort of functionality as a PickList - a column where staff can either mark the item as 'Not Found' or "missing". Ideally the circulation status could be changed to missing at this point, removing the need to manually change these items in the system and remove them from the record set.

  3. Please add a drop-down box for the profile section of registration. There is a drop-down box for the address section labeled term but there is not one for the profile section. It makes it easier for staff to choose the correct date. In the Polaris toolbar, there is a drop-down box for patron info and address.

  5. It would be helpful to have an indicator for if a patron has circulation blocks in the response of the AuthenticatePatron API endpoint. This would allow vendors and custom integrations to determine if a patron should be allowed access to a system based on if they are allowed to checkout items without having to do an additional API call.

  6. In our previous ILS, on the patron's checked out items list, we could see the date of when the item had been checked out as well as the due dates. I know that staff can go into the item record to see who, where and when it was checked out, but it would be nice to be able to see what all was dealt with at the same time.

  7. When deduplicating hold requests, Polaris looks at title, author, and material type. Therefore, it doesn't allow our customers to place holds on the same video game title for different consoles.

Please also consider UPC during the hold request duplicate detection process.

  8. There should be an option to block patrons from placing holds on items if there is only one owning library and the circulation status of the item is listed as missing or in storage. While in storage items should be visible to patrons in the OPAC since sometimes that item can be taken out of storage if a patron wants it, they shouldn't be able to place a hold if there's only one owning library and their only copy is listed as in storage. Like withdrawn items, missing items simply shouldn't show up at all for patrons as an option.

  9. Currently, when working through Picklist processing, items can be marked as "Located". While this is useful for in-library work flow to indicate that it has been found, it doesn't do anything to prevent another member library or branch location from filling the hold request when trapped at point of check-in. This causes problems in a multi-branch or larger consortia system where there is a higher chance of popular material being checked in throughout the day.

Ideally, it would be great if marking an item as "Located" not only changed the status from the Picklist, but also prevented another item from…

  10. In 7.7, we now have the option to do INN-Reach check in, which is phenomenal! It has sped up this process immensely, making for happier staff and patrons.

However, the speed has brought with it some unexpected snags: The biggest at present being the color of the 'return uncirculated' toast as compared to normal INN-Reach processing.

Using Request Manager to receive INN-Reach items, the note that a 'patron no longer wants this item' was thrown front and center using standard Polaris work form coloration (which necessitated a more thorough reading of popups). If an item was still desired by a…

  11. Sometimes I have a lot of records open in the workform tracker, and it's a pain to have to go into each to close it. It would be useful to have a button I could quickly click to close them instead.

In cases where a record has been modified it should generate a prompt about saving changes, and show you the record again in this case so it's clear what's being saved.

  12. Some library staff need to be able to alter the label margin and font size for longer call numbers, longer author names, and longer titles, as well as how the printer prints that day. Currently, staff using Leap need to go back and forth between the Client and Leap to do so. Adding the label settings that are only accessible in the Client to Leap will make it easier for staff to make the transition to Leap by allowing them to maintain their workflow for their current printers.

  13. When an item record set is viewed on a tablet or mobile device in Leap, the record set layout changes to accommodate the change in screen size. This includes the Shelf Location column no longer displaying. Staff create item record sets for displays and when they go out into the stacks with Leap on a tablet to pull the items, not having the Shelf Location included slows them down as they have to open the item records individually.

  14. We would like to be able to copy an existing branch when creating a new branch, since often our additions are branch locations of an existing library that will have almost the same exact settings.

  15. Currently there is only the option to display serials in Vega at the serial holdings record level. It would be helpful to have the ability to prevent specific publication patterns from displaying in records with multiple publication patterns.

  16. Currently, incoming requests are assigned from the INN-Reach central server to a specific copy in the catalog. If for some reason that item cannot be found or used, staff must undertake a lengthy multi-step process to transfer the item-level hold to another copy.

Keeping the hold at the bib level and letting Polaris assign it to an item will reduce the time it takes to transfer INN-Reach holds between copies will save a lot of staff time in communicating and processing, and further will reduce delays in getting the request fulfilled and sent out.

  17. It would be very helpful to have a more robust item record history. It appears that only the last 12 months of item history is available. It would be great if Polaris would:
    A) keep the history of changes in the item record forever
    B) improve the data that is stored and presented to staff, for example, so we could see what exactly was edited on 7-26-23 in the screenshot attached. Perhaps by clicking on the entry and having the information pop up.

  18. Our Access Services staff use the Reader Services tab and the Note field to list patron details to assist with readers advisory for elderly and homebound patrons.

They use the Preferences options to some degree, but have noticed a character limit in the Note field, which requires them to use abbreviations to fit their details. They asked: "Is there a way for Polaris to increase the character limit of the Note field in the reader services tab? Is there a way to increase the viewable space as well?"

Character limit may be around 250 or so, so they are abbreviating…

Or at least keep the check marks of the selected PO lines to receive and then to print slips to avoid selecting the same PO lines twice.
