Diplay patron charges on printed checkout receipt
Currently, a patron's current charges (for fines, etc.) can be listed on their emailed checkout receipts, but not on their printed checkout receipts. It would be very useful for patrons if the printed checkout receipts could also include this information.

Card renewal to update Last Activity Date
Currently, staff modifications to patron registration including card renewal do not update the Patron Last Activity Date (LAD). As more libraries move towards long or no expiration periods, LAD becomes even more important for patron database maintenance. We have seen cases in which patrons renew their card without any additional activity resulting in their record being purged during cleanup. Including renewal and/or extending the card expiration period in LAD will better allow libraries to track patron engagement.

Change How Deleted Record Sets are Presented in Linked Records
Today if a record set is deleted it's still visible in the list of record sets a specific record is a part of (either on the Record Sets tab in Leap, or list of Linked Record Sets in the client). However there's no clear indicator that it's a deleted record set, which can cause confusion for staff. It would be helpful if the Record Status column was visible, and if there was an option to not display deleted record sets (ideally the setting could be applied at various organizational levels). Both these options would allow more clarity and control for…

Have a holds notification at checkout tell what library the items are being held at.
Have a holds notification at checkout tell what library the item, or items, are being held at.
Scenario: A patron who is not our patron is visiting our library and has holds on our holds shelf. They come to the desk with books to checkout. The notification that we get now is something like "patron has 3 holds at a library other than their home library of Potsdam" This does not signal to me to check my shelf, it could be any library. In the test LEAP we had, it would tell me "patron has 2 books held in Waddington…

Improvements to Multiple Holds
The multiple holds feature in Leap is really nice - unless you want to make sure that a bib you're selecting is actually the thing you want, the need for a preview option has been suggested in another Idea Exchange submission.
Another common use for multiple holds is creating what we at DPL call "Teacher Sets" where staff pull a bunch of topical items based on criteria provided by a teacher, place holds on them and then check them in to fill those requests and contact the customer.
Right now this is really clunky. Since there is no option to…

Set a maximum allowed price for items
The item price field allows for high values to be entered into it. Which means things like item barcodes or ISBN numbers can set the price of an item in the billions. This incorrect price can then appear in places like "you saved" receipts for patrons and on other reports that are then difficult to correct.
In addition to offering the ability to set the maximum price, I think this feature should be enabled by default with a price of $9,999 and then a record set should be created at upgrade time for staff to review for any titles that…

Change Login Branch in Leap (without signing-out)
Currently if we need to change the branch we're logged into in Leap we need to sign-out and log back in. This can be disruptive if we have records opening we're working with that would then need to be re-opened. It would be handy if there was a way to do this without signing-out and back in, in a way that would allow records to remain open.
Admittedly I don't think this would be helpful for the majority of staff, likely more administrative roles that need to perform activity across a range of branches. But it would be a nice…

A note field that pops up at check out and check in
We need a note field in the item record that pops up as a warning box at check out and check in for notes that staff and patron may need to act on before checking out and in. Notes such as "Patron needs to sign a hold harmless form." Or the price of this piece of the kit is $250.00. Or "Item must be returned to this library." Staff should be able to close the window once they have read it.
18 votesUpdating this to under review. We have plans to add an "alert note" on patron records but need to evaluate on items. I accidently updated the wrong idea (between the two).

Full support for emoji in Polaris Label Manager
Many libraries like to call attention to their genre fiction through the use of spine label stickers and icons. For instance, science fiction items may feature an image of a grey alien, mysteries have a magnifying glass or a skull and crossbones, and westerns use a cowboy or a horse or something similar. The thing is, there's no reason a library couldn't print the icons on the spine labels themselves using emoji.
👽 = Science Fiction
🐴 = Western
💀 = Mystery
🦄 = Fantasy
🏰 = Historical Fiction
And so on. However, the Polaris Label Manager barely supports any…

Prevent update of patron code for patrons in collection (Susan Millwater)
Since you can exclude patron codes that are submitted to collections, you shouldn't be allowed to update the patron code for a patron in collection. We've found that any updates to fines and fees will not be sent to collection management (UMS) and the collection block will not be removed for a patron in collection if they now have a patron code that is excluded from collection.

Bulk Change Pickup Location for Held Items
We often have branches close unexpectedly due to facilities issues, when this happens we need to move the Held items from that branch to another branch. Currently there is no way to bulk change the pickup location between branches. This function would be very helpful for us.

Allow SIP2 to trap ILL requests that are in Transit status
We use remote lockers that connect with SIP2 to the ILS. We are unable to send ILL's to the lockers and have them trapped by the locker software using SIP2 as all other materials that are in Transit status are able to be trapped via SIP2.

Make "exclude from" options accessible via API
We're working with a vendor to import patron records into Polaris as part of a program to give every student of the local school district a library card. As part of the arrangement, these student cards will be exempt from billing.
Unfortunately, there is no means to check the "exclude from" overdues, billing, etc. boxes in the API, so this will have to be done manually every time a new batch of students is imported. Please make it possible to modify these options via API.

Change a 'Lost' status to 'Withdrawn' status (and eventually deleted) and still retain the bill on a patron's account
Do this by creating a record set and using 'Ad Hoc Bulk Change' or 'Bulk Change' to change the circulation status from 'Lost' to 'Withdrawn', retaining the bill and item information on the patron's account.

Return to full list function for delivery routes in Outreach Services Manager
When we first go to the Outreach Services Manager, we see the full list of patrons for all delivery routes. We have the option to select a single delivery route and its associated patrons; however, there does not seem to be a way to return to the full list. Our current only option is to close the OSM and start again.
It would be useful to have a "none" option at the top of the list, or to have the ability to deselect an item (without having to select another item).

Permit cancellation on "held" items - staff only
In the 7.5 update, which introduces the ability to cancel items in "shipped" and "held" statuses, I suggest extending this cancellation privilege to staff members exclusively. When patrons cancel items that are on hold, those items are often already on the hold shelf, and the system's only notification to staff is by adding the item to the cancelled hold list.
By allowing only staff to cancel holds, they could promptly remove the item from the shelf and cancel it directly, eliminating the need for setting an expiration date or other measures to force its expiration.

Password Reset PAPI Call
Currently we have to send patrons from our websites to the PAC if they need to reset their passwords. It would be great if there was an API call for this, as it's disruptive to the patron experience to have to send them to another site.
The suggested functionality would reflect the PAC experience: once they enter a barcode, a password reset email would be sent to the email address on the account.

Allow Floating's Load Balancing option to be set at the Library-Level
Currently, Floating's Load Balancing option can only be enabled at the System-Level in Polaris. I am on a shared Polaris server where one library system wants Load Balancing and one library system does not want it. This leaves us with not turning the feature on. It would be nice to allow Floating's Load Balancing option to be set at the Library-Level.

Align Item Editing and Manage Item Dialogs Permissions
Item editing permission organizations are based on the Owning Branch of an item. However, permissions for item editing through the checkout page ('Manage Item Dialogs') are based on the item's Assigned Branch (as well as the check-in branch matching the assigned branch).
We think it makes sense for both these permissions to be aligned to the Owning Branch, otherwise it can leave room for inappropriate changes. For instance, in our consortia some items are owned by one library but lent to others (assigned to their libraries), and this gap has led to item changes by staff that shouldn't have had…
