Keyboard shortcuts for MARC editor
The ability to create keyboard shortcuts to insert (paste) pre-defined text. Prior to the advanced marc editor added in Polaris 7.6, our catalogers were able to use the program QuickPaste in which we had lines and lines of pre-defined text often used in creating bib records. This was a huge time saver and this no longer works with marc editor.
Some examples of text we programmed are as follows:
Ctrl+Alt+B – opens a list of pre-defined text which our catalogers could select from when creating book records.
‡atext‡btxt‡2rdacontent > inserted into the 336 field
‡avolume‡bnc‡2rdacarrier > inserted into the 338…16 votes -
Ability to create reports with charts and graphs
I came across this report using a bar chart to reflect the Total Number of Items Added. Our staff would love the ability to create statistical reports and display them as bar, line, and or pie charts.

Inventory Check-in
Inventory Check-in via Leap is recorded as Check-ins for Item Statistic reports in SimplyReports. A way to filter inventory check-ins from statistical reports would be nice.

Auto update member code from Junior to Adult when they turn 18
Having member codes change automatically based off patron age, changing junior to adult when they turn 18.

Original check out date in patron's overdue charge properties instead of last renewal date
In the Item tab of the popup window for a patron's overdue charge properties, the "Check Out date" indicates the item's last renewal date, rather than its actual check out date. A more helpful date to see would be the original check out date; this would also better suit the title for this line.

Create or add to an item record set from Leap check-in workform
Leap should include the ability to create or add to an item record from the check-in workform. Most of the functionality is already there in that items can be selected via checkboxes and all items can selected from the topmost checkbox. By adding the option to the Actions menu, circ staff could quickly roll items over into a record set for a variety of other uses.

Ability to use the patron's preferred branch when placing holds
When staff are placing individual holds for a patron Leap and the Desktop client allow staff to use the pickup branch as the branch where the staff member is logged in*. For libraries with centralized call centers it would be helpful to offer to use the patron's preferred branch when placing the hold request for the patron.
Of course, this will need to be cleared indicated to the staff member what their preferred location is as they should still verbally confirm that is the location they want to use.
It might also be nice to have a SA setting that…

Warning dialog when making bulk changes to item records that are open
In the staff client if you accidentally have an item record open during a bulk change that includes that item, it will provide an error after the change happens and the change won't happen to the item record that was left open. There should be a warning that alerts the user to close the item record before they can make the bulk change.

Exclude ebooks from "Book" Material Type for searching
Currently, when limiting a search to the material type "Book", electronic resources (eBooks) are displayed as well. It would be nice if the material type "Book" only produced physical book results.

Fund Hierarchy Report
Currently, the fund hierarchy report organizes at the Organization level by Org ID. This means that as new organization levels are added they drop to the bottom of the list, and I'm often looking at this from an alphabetical perspective. It would be helpful to have the option to organize the output alphabetically instead.

New Item record status - logical deletion
It would be useful for administrators and reporting if item records were not physically deleted from the database. Maybe the introduction of an additional item record status that leaves the record in the database but excludes it from all aspects but reporting and administrator access?
In our case we need to report periodically on item records being deleted. Once the record has been double deleted by a branch, I can no longer see it in Polaris, so I am relying upon spreadsheets captured at different points in time to capture the necessary data. Having a status of "logically deleted" could…

Increase functionality of API with Overdrive
We would like to see additional information and functions available in the Polaris Client or LEAP so that staff have more resources and information to support customers with questions about online resources.
For example, library staff would benefit from seeing real-time hold information in Polaris about items on Overdrive or Hoopla. Currently, Polaris shows an asterix (*) under holds. Library staff need to either go to the PAC or Overdrive to provide customers with this information. It would help library staff to have information available in one place rather than requiring staff to go to multiple sources to answer a…

Enhanced Data fields in SimplyReports
We would like to have more enhanced data fields within SimplyReports in order to help users create reports that can fit their needs a bit better. For example, we recently ran into an issue where a staff member wanted a field that can indicate status descriptions for Lost/Unpaid or Lost/Accruing. In this case, it was explained that there would need to be a combination of patron account information, item status information and library settings needing to be available in order for this to work. Can possibly looked into for the future?

Leap - Item specific hold, checkout pop-up
Currently in Leap when checking out an item - if that item has an item specific hold on it for a patron - it does not provide a pop up or warning if you try to check out that item to another patron. In Polaris it would warn you that there was an existing hold on that copy. This was a very useful notice for circulation staff.

Permission that would block the checkout function but allow for check in of items.
We allow our Pages to check in items. In order to give them access they get access to Circulation control. That access is giving them access to both check out and check in of items. We would like to limit that access to only allow for check in and not check out. There seems to be a separate permission for the check in dialog box but nothing for check out and check out needs to be blocked for our Page group access.

Do Not Merge Checkbox Added to Registration
Indian Trails Library has had a large flux in separated families with parents living in two different library districts. The parents want to keep their accounts separate. According to IL these children are entitled to have a library card with each parent when they reside at both addresses.
Also, we have several members with two properties in different library districts. A few times now the accounts were merged and the members have been upset with the library even though we placed notes on the member's account not to merge the accounts.
A "Do Not Merge" checkbox added to the Registration…

Option to require selection of a Collection when adding item records
We would like the ability to made Collection a required field when adding item records. While we can instruct all of our members to have Collections selected as part of their templates, there is still the possibility of forgetting and having items that are missing a collection. Having a collection at minimum, and ideally collection and shelf location combination set on each item greatly helps wayfinding for the patrons, and we'd like Polaris to allow us to enforce selection of at least a Collection. Other customers may want to enforce selection of both Collection and Shelf Location. As long as…

Ability to assign a specific cataloging fund to Opening Day Collection orders in Polaris
Opening Day Collection orders are created when large numbers of new books and videos are needed to either create an entirely new collection for a branch or to partially replace a collection. Large orders tend to produce large quantities of invoices; for this reason, streamlining all possible aspects of invoice payments is essential to help expedite payments for these orders. It would be very helpful to all libraries if Polaris offered functionality to assign a specific cataloging fund to Opening Day Collection orders. The new functionality would save libraries significant labor when paying invoices for these orders without affecting regular…

Include count in Leap table filter
When using the filter box in a Leap workform (for example, in Reading History, Out, holds or really anywhere you have ability to filter a view), please add an indicator of how many items are caught in the filter. For ex. a customer has 85 items checked out and wants to know how many DVDs they still have out. Typing DVD into filter reduces the list but doesn't tell you how many DVDs there are. The only option is count them.
